Wow! I can't believe it is the middle of June already.
Today is my first official day of summer vacation. The weather is blustery and dusty and 102 degrees but I can always count on my moss roses to greet me each day.
I keep thinking I hear Sweet Kitty at the door. She came every morning at 6 am and every evening for a spoonful of canned food and a bit of dried food. I have to remind myself that she's no longer here. Does Jingles wonder why her outside friend hasn't been coming around?
A few weeks ago Marilyn at Room on the Left and Kate at The Garden Bell, both posted their version of crocheted watermelons after being inspired by an image found in Martha Stewart Living. I was finally able to try my hand at one today. Doily or dishcloth? Not sure. I just used up whatever leftover yarn I had sitting around and tied in the seeds.
Think I will have to try a few more until I get them just right.
Til then, I'll just have a nice, cool snack. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday. Friendship blessings, Tammy

Happy summer, sweet Tammy! 102--yikes! We usually stay fairly cool here in the summer...it rarely goes above the 80's (beach weather!)
Love that watermelon pattern--looks wonderful! You're so amazing with these crochet patterns--they're really hard for my brain to follow!
Wishing you a lovely, lazy summer day, dear friend...
Julie
Dearest Tammy,
You gave it a very good 'first' try by creating a juicy, red watermelon! A good thing to kill time and I felt it always was a good therapy. As is knitting. Now I don't find time to do it again...
The heat in your area is something to deal with, the low humidity makes it rather easy to bear but you must consider taking care of your skin all the time as it does dry it. And for the plants, birds, animals + humans it is hard to live in it without adequate water.
Wish you well for your summer period.
Yeah, kitty will be missed for quite a while, it became such routine for you for quite a while.
Lots of love,
Mariette
I had home-made fruit cocktail for breakfast today, which included watermelon! :o) cantaloupe, pineapple, mango, strawberries, papaya and banana. Yummy!, with orange juice. So refreshing, and so healthy! And while we have that kind of food available year-round here, they do translate into "summer" for me, which is long gone by now :o( Oh well...at least the fruit remind of it :o)
enjoy your day!
After I lost my last kitty, Maxie, at 22 years old I was sure I saw her in some of her favorite places. I think she was, I think it's hard to leave love.
routines are hard to let go of and Sweet Kitty was a normal part of your day. It is only natural for you to expect to hear her. I know you will miss her dearly.
I hope you enjoyed your watermelon...looks yummy!
Glad you are having a great first day of vacation. Love your crocheted watermelon. It should defintely be a doily. Too cute for a dishcloth.
Wonderful, Warm and Wise. Thought I'd send 3 W's back your way. Your watermelon doily is cool. I'm sure you are going to bed whipping up many things now that you are finished with school. Sorry to hear your missing Sweet Kitty so much. May time heal your heart and my hugs soothe your soul.....ok, gonna stop before I get too sappy.
xoxo, Melissa
102! Wow...I think I would melt!
I've got to seek out the watermelon pattern now, it looks cute. :)
I think you should take comfort in knowing that just as you looked forward to seeing Sweet Kitty each day, I am sure she looked forward to seeing you, too. Don't beat yourself up over not being able to take her in...you fed and loved her...so many don't even get that. Just remember the good things about her.
Blessings always :)
That watermelon looks like just the thing to start your summer vacation off on a happy note, especially in that kind of heat. Whew, that's hot!
Your homemade watermelon turned out so cute.
Cute little watermelon - it's a little work of art! And the real watermelon looks yummy! My husband would never eat watermelon because of the seeds but now they have seedless and they're very good! Nice blog today.
Hi Tammy....Sooooo cute. I'd say doily. Too cute to be a dishcloth. Nice job! Susan

Aren't those watermelon just too fun to make. And very theraputic too. Just brings you sweet memories of a summer day in the midwest. Which I know you miss, dearly. Your the best for giving my a linkie. What fun you know I have to share over in my crazy garden. By the way, the strawberry is finished, hope to post in the next day or so. My brain is still working out that long saga story... Blah-blah-blah, I know I go on and on.....
I have a watermelon doily....I'm gonna have to get it out....perfect for summertime. And how I love watermelon....chilled, salted, yum
Jingles has the
right idea....soak
up these summer days!
What a cutie-pie.
It's a rainy, cool
and cozy one here today.
After my chores are
done, I'm curling up
with a book. Watermelon
days are still ahead of
us : ) Enjoy your day!
xx Suzanne
Nothing says summer like watermelon! Cute!! Thanks so much for your kind words!!

Cute pattern! Thanks for helping me with the comment thing. Your tip worked! Yay!
YEAH!! Tammy made a melon!!! Well done and I think tying the seeds in is BRILLIANT!! thank you for the link...if you put a back on it you can use it for a hot pad...but not the oven, the tops of pots...
your little friend will always be with you...I still hear my dogs and they have been gone for ever... :(
can't wait to see what you get up to next... :)
Tammy,
sorry I have missed so many posts this week. I will read them all, but just comment on this one for now. Love your watermelon doily. I cannot remember the last time I ate watermelon. Have had fresh grapes, strawberries, and cherries so far this summer. I am looking forward to some blueberries this week.
Love!
Happy Summer! That watermelon dishcloth/doily is so cute. I hope to be able to make something like that one day. Right now I'm struggling with just learning double crochet. I won't tell you how long it took me to find a way to make slip knot:)
It has been hitting the 100s in East Texas, too. Fortunately for me, I am still in Virginia for a few more days and it never made it to 80 today.
I know just what you mean about thinking you might hear Sweet Kitty; after we lost Tess, our Scottie, I would expect to see her cute face in all the places she would pop-up around the house... for the longest time.
Love your watermelons!! (both) blessings ~ tanna
Wishing you a wonderful start to your summer. Your crochet watermelon looks so neat! Reminds me of my beloved Grandma that crocheted all the time.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
I love the watermelon doily, and I think the seeds look wonderful. And I know you won't believe this, but I LOVE hot weather, and am kind of envious. I know, I know...
Beautiful images. Trying to picture 102 degrees, in some way am yearning for such heat as in my latitudes it barely gets to be in the upper 70.;))
Thank you so much for stopping by again.;))
xoxo
Hello Tammy, nice to meet you :)
It's hard to imagine that you are greeting summer when we have been in the throes of wet, windy weather...winter has set in here in the Southern Hemisphere.
Love your take on the humble melon.
x
Your crochet watermelon is darling- makes me either want to try crocheting again, or just eat a big old juicy slice of melon!
Summer looks like it is off to a good start with plenty of crocheting and cool treats to keep you company. Glad you were able to enjoy your day! Jingles looks like she is enjoying having extra bodies at home to keep her company during the day.
Enjoy the day, my friend!!
XOXOXO
Renee
I really revel in watermelons right now. They taste wonderful on a hot day! And quench the thirst perfectly... And almost no calories ;)
Friendly regards from Sweden
WHAT A GREAT PIECE OF WATERMELON, NICE JOB......
LOOKS GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT. I KNOW...THE MIDDLE OF JUNE ALREADY, TIME SURE GOES BY FAST. HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND....RIZZI
Loving that watermelon - both the crochet and the real variety. The temp is off my radar, winter is much more to my liking.
Have a wonderful summer break.
