Summer Flowering

 Hello Friends!

Long time no blog. Hope this finds you doing well.

At the end of June, I planted saved cantaloupe seeds from store-bought melons.  Last year I did the same and was really pleased when they grew and flowered throughout our harsh summer weather.  By January of this year, we had two of the cutest little melons which turned out to be snack-sized, but super sweet.

Last year I only planted them in one pot, but this year I've spread seeds throughout five different pots, three on one balcony and two on the other.

In the past week, the first flowers have appeared and each one sparks a bit of joy.

We only need to open our eyes to see the gifts

that abound all around us.

These are the simple joys in life.

Genevieve

May your day be filled with many blessings.

What a great idea to plant the seeds. A snack size melon is just as good . I hope this year's cantaloupes are just as yummy. Beautiful little cross stitch too. Have a blessed day .

Dearest Tammy,
Wow, you grew baby cantaloupe! That must be special as we live in an era where everything is baby sized. Baby arugula, baby spinach and on and on. So this fits perfect.
Those flowers are so lovely and in our happy color.
Yes, we're fine throughout a wet spring and summer.
Hard for planning any longer bike rides as you hardly can trust the weather...
But we try to do our best.
Hugs,
Mariette

There is just something so special about planting the seeds, seeing them sprout, watching the full process and receiving the reward of juicy sweet baby cantaloupe. I so miss not having a garden and only having a mini balcony garden of sorts. Sweet embroidery and crochet. Keep well Amanda x

Hi! I have been trying to grow a pumpkin from saved seeds, but no. A leaf, and flowers but no pumpkin. Too late now I suppose.

How lovely to grow your own baby cantaloupe, I would want to keep it how cute, I don't think it's warm enough to grow them here. The little cross stitch is so cute. xx

Hi Tammy. What great news about the melons. I love cantaloupe. Thanks so much for your visits and comments on Writing Straight from the Heart. They both mean a lot to me. Take care and try to keep cool and hydrated. Susan

Tammy - glad to see you post again. I love melons, and they always taste sweeter out of a "real" garden. I hope you harvest many more melons this time. We had some very good news this week - our son was offered and accepted an engineering job, after more than a year of searching. Praise God!

I love your baby cantaloupes! I was at the local farm stand today and saw a big, round melon that was dark. Had no idea what it was, so I asked. It was a black watermelon! She said the flesh is almost a true red, and it's very juicy and seedless. Sold! Can't wait to taste it tonight. Hope you're doing well.
