Walk With Me

Yesterday I took a nice long walk around the neighborhood.  An hour and a half to be exact.  Meandering slowly up and down streets capturing beautiful things.  Plants and trees, bushes and bees, butterflies and flowers.
It was everything a walk should be.

And yes, I also walked along the new walking path.  I honestly just can't get over it.
I do hope that everyone who takes their children there teaches them that artificial grass and trees are a novelty.  Not the way of the future.  This Counting Crows song is on my playlist as I walk and is one of my favorites.
I think of it every time I walk by the new walking path which most people think looks nice, but since when is artificial normal? It will not provide shade or the absorption of heat in summer.  It does not provide shelter or food for feathered friends and insects.  It will not purify the air.  And there are toxic properties to it that I am sure will be leached when the extreme heat of summer sets in, not to mention the amount of glue that had to be used to tack it down.  I just wonder if anyone on this project really did their homework?

I promise I won't mention the walking path again.
As you can tell, it just really hit a nerve with me.
Wishing you all a wonderful day surrounded by all things natural and beautiful.

Artificial grass and trees on a walking path? That's just crazy. But how nice to see real flowers and palm trees along your walk, too. And on your blog.

I'm sorry about your walking path! I don't know the culture where you live, but is there any way to voice your concerns? Can you file a petition or something, asking for the artificial things to be removed? The rest of your walk looks lovely.

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got til it's gone...hope it never comes to a tree museum! Love this version of Joni's song, and this was a BEAUTIFUL walk you went on, my friend! Happy Monday...Tanya

That new walking path is just odd. I wonder why they thought it was a good idea to install such a thing. Anyway, the other walk you took looks like a beautiful way to spend time outdoors. Lots of lovely (real) things that are growing to see.

I'm glad you were able to find such beauty elsewhere. What a nice view you had during your walk :-) Thanks for sharing it.

I have enjoyed meandering along with you on this lovely walk. I could loose myself in such a pretty area with my camera too with all that you saw along the way. The walking path is colorful but your concerns are valid!

I loved your photographs, especially the butterflies!

Walking in a safe environment and taking photographs is one of my favourite things to do, it's a shame that it's not exactly safe to do that for me on my own here as I usually get cars slowing down and harassing me. It doesn't happen to every girl though, I don't want to generalise. So I stick to walking on the treadmill (which I don't really enjoy since I'm not admiring the beauty around me!) or the nearest park.

I love that song too by the way! I remember a female artist sang it when I was younger.

I don't blame you for wanting to stress how upset you are about the new walking path. I'm upset about it and I don't even live there.

I really think you and neighbours who feel the same should write a strong letter of disapproval to whoever is in charge. Maybe even create a facebook page and see how many people join and feel the same. Whoever carried out those changes need to know they can't just change things for the worse without even consulting those who use the walking paths.

Have a lovely day.

Well I love all your photos. Each set of four are lovely. I do have a question. Maybe times I have wanted to put 4 pictures in a square like that, but don't know how, as the Coral Photo I use doesn't have that option. I have gone to MoneyPic..and they have a collage that is 3 squares. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hello Dear Tammy
Gosh I have missed you and your wonderful blog. I really enjoyed walking with you through your gorgeous neighborhood. Especially all the great pictures of the flowers in bloom. I could easily see why you spent over an hour enjoying your surroundings.
The new park and walk they built is nothing like anything I have ever seen. You brought up some good questions and concerns about this walk. Especially like you mentioned the extreme heat. No shelter either what a shame. I can completely understand your being upset.
Love the music video you chose for this post. Perfect.
I do miss blogging and my friends like you Tammy.
I keep promising myself and my blogging buddies I am going to get better but I feel like my post are so boring. Nothing to write about!
Thank you for coming by and leaving such a sweet comment about my Kaci and Bailey. Yes Kaci is growing up way to fast for me. She is really involved with Juvenile Diabetes and works hard at living healthy.
So glad I came by today now I must catch up with you and read some of your other post.
Hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
Love Maggie

Dearest Tammy,
You are so right about the shelter for insects and birds, just like you observed in the 'living' area of your walk today. Such beautiful photos with a happy bee and such. We will wait and see how it all will turn out or melt away...
Sending you hugs and a relaxed feeling for your spring break.

I agree, it seems so strange to have a walking path that has no shade, or a tree, all things we all need to enjoy our life..imagine having more places where birds could sing and seek shelter from the heat..

Tammy your photos are so lovely. I always enjoy seeing the beauty that you capture in your photos. I think those of us that live in the desert really understand how paving everything contributes to hotter temps. I want to cry every time I see an orange grove destroyed to make room for "custom" homes. Our night time temps continue to rise here as we build more and more. I feel your pain but I guess it is done in the name of "progress". Whatever that is.

Hi Tammy, I understand your annoying of that walking path very well. It's artificial and extremely ugly. Children might like it because of the colors but how can an adult think that this is pretty and reasonable? By the end of the summer it will be still a lot of plastic but at least the colors will have faded quite a bit. I'm glad that you still have that nice neighborhood where you can walk. All the flowers and trees are lovely.

Everything other than the artificial turf looks so lush and green,,,,,makes me wish for summer! We had snow here this morning and there are snow flurries right now! I agree with your thoughts on the artificial grass....they only thought about the ease of care and nothing else.

Thank you,
deareast Tammy, for taking us along your path with your walking-music in the ears (loved the music-video)! Your neighbourhood is wonderful, bees, butterflies - I'm so happy that there are places where they still find flowers & food! And I hope you can manage it to "ignore" the ugly part of your path - may be it will be removed one day cause the responsible politicians are changing and a person, who finds it as outrageously as we do, will get the power ...
Warm hugs, my dear!

I love the trees and shrubs, the gates and walls, the brilliant flowers and insects, but not the path!
Meanwhile your getting out and walking is great - wish I could join you!

Hugs - Mary

Tammy -- Your mention of the falseness of the walking path, grass etc has to be said. Natural paths promote our environment's well being while the false construction of grass and pathways sends toxins into our air that makes us sick as well as the wild ones that live on this earth. I am new to your site and can identify with your natural thoughts. If we all give off gentle reminders about our environment we may see a change for the good. --- barbara
