Felt Ornaments

Last weekend while in Dubai, Maureen  took me to a lovely little handicraft bazaar that is held every Saturday.
We had barely started looking when I instantly spied a table with the prettiest felt ornaments that were handmade by a group of lovely ladies.
Unfortunately, all the birdie ornaments were sold out.

However, while we walked around viewing all the other stalls,
and visited an interior design studio upstairs,
my bird was quickly being stitched.
And ready to fly away with me when it was time to go.
I've never made felt ornaments before.
And sewing is not my forte.
But I am definitely going to try making some of these myself.

Hope you are having a great holiday weekend!

Hi Tammy, handicraft bazaars are such fun ...no? I recently visited one in Ahmedabad. I love the ornaments you bought.
Love, Merry Christmas

Oh, crafty bazaars!!!
I might get lost there for hours and still wouldn't have enough :)
Love your felt ornament! I am in love with felt but scarcely worked with it. Here it is very hard to buy felt, because it cannot be found in the fabric shop (kills me why not!) and the people that produce it charge is as if you were buying some illegal ore.
I get felt when I go abroad but I rarely used it to make ornaments. My board on pinterest regarding felt is quite jaw dropping. If you like you can see it here: http://pinterest.com/littletreasures/felt/

Happy Holidays!

Craft bazaars are also good motivation for long walks. There is a handicraft bazaar barely 3 miles from my home and in the month of December they have all India crafts fair. The no. of stalls goes to 200 + in the fair.

Your felt ornaments are cute!:)

Love these ornamanets and at first glance of them all together the dove was my favorite and so it was yours too! I would love to maked some as well ... nice way to spend some evening time with a cup of tea and stitching. I find hand work always comforting and satisfying. Wishing you and your family a lovely, blessed holiday. Merry Christmas sweet girl.

What a fun Craft Fair, and the felt ornaments are adorable. That brought a memory of 40 years ago, when I made felt ornaments for each of my four children. I can still see them in my mind. One was a socking, one a little gingerbread house, one a star and one a poinsettia. They stitching was quite detailed, and when they became adult, and left the nest, I gave each of them their ornament. They still have them on their trees.

Great memories. Thanks!!

You can have excellent results with felt, even if you aren't skilled at sewing. One trick is to use freezer paper to cut out your design. I found a tutorial here: http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2012/10/fix-it-friday-help-my-felt-shapes-are-never-quite-right/ Hopefully you can find freezer paper where you live; otherwise maybe ask for some in a care package. One roll of it lasts a really long time!

Your visit to the craft bazaar, brought back memory of an evening that I had couple of years ago. I visited Shilpagram a craft fair. The area was so huge that one could'nt cover all the stalls in one visit. Lovely cuties. The birdie looks very cute too.

When you said that I thought I would make one for you and then you said they stitched one up for you. If you can crochet you can do that...I do that and better than my crochet. It's fun and I like the blanket stitch. Those are darling! So glad you were able to get your bird.
