By Request

Yesterday my 17-year old asked if I could crochet him a hacky sack.
Apparently he and his friends want to use it to relieve the "stress" of exam week.
He even went so far as to find an old sock, fill it with rice and sew it together himself.
He thought the first one on the left was too big and wasn't made properly since I didn't follow a pattern.
The one in the middle was made using this pattern and lasted a good hour and a half this morning before the boys got it stuck in a tree.  When they pulled it down, the sock started leaking rice.
So tonight a third one was made, this time filled with brown lentils.
It seems his friends were quite impressed with my crochet skills.  HA!
I asked if they wanted another color but apparently red and black works for them.
I just hope this third one lasts a bit longer.

Hope you are having a great day!

You are a brilliant Mother, anytime a younger man asks his Mother for crochet, you've done something right!
Hugs to you,
Meredith

Perfect little project. Gotta love when young people ask for handmade and then get involved in the process.
Hope it provides hours of stress free amusement.

Hi Tammy, You must be so happy to make it for your son. Because the words crochet and boys don't go together! When my son agreed to use the crochet laptop cover I made for him it felt really great. :) (A tiny bit of emotional blackmail is involved...hehe)
Have a nice week ahead.Love

Very useful, colorful, and how neat that your son knew just what he wanted.

I make little bean bags for my grandchildren to play with, trying to throw them at get it into the wastebasket.

A while ago I made a similar one for my son! Can't describe the fun he had with it along with my husband. The only thing is that I didn't put the rice in a sack/sock first, and although I crocheted it tightly the tiny rice finds its way out. Thank you for sharing your secret :)

Dearest Tammy,
Great design for those hacky sacks! Now you ought to patent them and make your son sell them...

That is so awesome that you would crochet this for him Tammy! I doubt that too many mom's can claim they have made hacky sacks before. Too cool mom!!! I think you just might be making a few more of these for your son's friends.
You make me wish I would have stayed with crochet Tammy : )

Thank you for your sweet comment. I smiled at the lack of desire to ski and FB too!
many hugs...

These came out very nice. Now that's something when the "kids" start paying attention to what you can make. I love it!!! Blessings to you.

That's cool! I've never seen much of the 'hacky sack' activity. I see you making more of these. :)

Thanx for the suggestion! We've tried it with a balloon (forgot to write it in the earlier comment) but it didn't feel right! But a stocking! Ha! That's it!

The nicest hacky sack I have ever seen! Much prettier than the ones we had at school when I was a kid!

And yes --- a great stress reliever!

Wow! Out of all the things your kids could ask for, they ask for this. I think that just goes to show how you've instilled simplicity and creativeness into their lives. I think it looks really cool. Maybe that could be your new project...hacky sack queen!
