The Taste Test

Today I have a couple of treats to share.  First up, Primal Brownies.  Have any of you heard of the Primal Blueprint Diet?  I found the following information at Livestrong.com:

The Primal Diet calls for the complete elimination of modern foods in favor of foods that humans have had available to them for their entire history. The theory behind this approach is that the foods human ancestors ate, up until the last 100 years or so, were the foods with which humans evolved and thus provide optimal nutrition while not promoting weight gain. Modern foods such as vegetable oils, grains, dairy and legumes, according to "The Primal Blueprint," promote fat storage through insulin reaction, increase heart disease and diabetes risk, and cause food intolerance problems from the lectins, phytates and gluten found in foods such as grains and legumes.

I for one don't believe in diets.  I take a common sense approach to my eating.  I do, however, believe that processed and packaged foods are not doing anyone any good.  This recipe came from Debbie's blog The Loving Path.
1 cup of peanut butter (or other nut butter); 3/4 cup of mashed pumpkin; 1/3 cup honey; 1 tsp baking soda; 1 egg; 2 TBS cocoa powder.  Grease mini muffin tins and bake at 350 for about 15 minutes, or til done.

My kids didn't think they were sweet enough but all the adults I gave them to thought they were great.  Zack's English teacher from last year has a gluten allergy, so she was thrilled to taste test and receive the recipe.
Yesterday I was given the task of taste tester when two friends from school made their versions of rice pudding. One was creamy while the other was thick, both yummy!  My kids were beyond excited as they love it, too.  Unfortunately, it didn't last long. 3 bowls and two containers of yumminess are gone.
I enjoyed my last bowlful this afternoon with a cup of organic white tea with vanilla.
Kimmie is sharing a recipe for pupcakes over at Art in Red Wagons in celebration of her dog's birthday.   Stop by if you have a chance.

And have a terrific Tuesday!

I have eliminated sugars (except for fresh fruit) in my diet due to what I have read about the insulin response. I know the processed grains have the same effect, so that's next. Your recipe sounds good, but even the honey adds a lot of sugar. I guess I would just eat an apple instead :) .... cutting things out is hard, but my newly developing arthritis has slowed significantly .... no weight loss though .... but I think I may be just right weight wise anyhow.

Happy Tuesday T! enjoy your day!!!

There is certainly some truth how our ancestors ate. The cakes look good, I'll try the recipe.

Sounds like an interesting recipe. I have never used pumpkins in baking but I have always wanted to bake a pumpkin pie.

Oh, yummy! It all looks very delicious. I haven't had rice pudding in such a long time--might be just the thing for dessert tonight! :)

I'm like you...not into diets and never have been on one but then I never needed it until they messed with my thyroid but still I refuse to diet. I just watch portions, I've never been into processed or junk foods. I never eat fast food or even go out to eat. I do love food though and I've just cut back on certain things or don't have them as often like ice cream or bacon. I'd like to try those brownies. Thank you, as always you expand my horizons!

I SO agree with you. You won't find any processed or packaged food in my house. That's why when people say to use a box from your pantry that has held processed food for a substrate, I tell people I don't even buy cereal. I just can't believe how much junk people ingest. I sure love the looks of that tea, though.

Sometimes, when I cook rice, I make a big pot and split it. I use part of it for my main dish and the rest for rice pudding. Like you, I love it. Hope your Tea Tuesday was perfect!

I love the recipes you share. I have a gluten-intolerant relative, so this will be a good recipe to have on hand. Thank you!

I try to be mindful of what I eat, and I try to make the majority of what I eat unprocessed foods, but I can't eliminate all processed foods from my diet completely.

Oh wow they look delicious! I will most definitely try this recipe. Apparently my blood type means I should eat a caveman diet (so I am told anyway!). Sadly chocolate licorice wasn't around in those days so I'm not so keen!!!! As for rice pudding - that's a huge favourite with my small folk. What's not to like ay.

Have a fab week hon.

uummm thank you so much for sharing dear Tammy
I quite agree about trying to eat more pure foods especially in this day and age when labels do not always reflect WHAT exactly is in the food

Hope you had a really lovely Tuesday...you seem to enjoy each and every day to its fullest

also Love your colorful blog background :)

Hi Tammy,
Like you I'm sensible about my diet and always cook from scratch just like my Mum and my Grandma and her Mum too. I remember them all as great cooks with delicious food.
Have a great day!!

I have heard of "primal" but have not yet ventured into trying it. The brownies look wonderful!

Sounds very like the Paleo diet my sister has been following.

Those brownies must be wonderfully fudgy, to judge by the ingredient list.

I'm not a pudding eater but those muffins look good. I'll have to give that recipe a try.
