Many Shades of Blue

Lots of lovely items of blue ....

for friends so true.

I met friends at PF Chang for lunch today. I've never heard of the chain but apparently it is popular in parts of the States. The food and atmosphere were all good.

I also had not heard much before about Cath Kidston until I started blogging and since there happened to be a store in the mall, I decided to check it out.

They were having a sale, so I bought a few things -- a straw purse that I can put my crochet projects in so that they stay nice and neat and out of the way of kids and cat.

Kitchen towels and soap.

A friend leaving Kuwait left me some plain Ikea frames that have just been collecting dust. I finally took one of them and jazzed it up. I printed music paper (By The Crystal Sea) from The Graphics Fairy and then cut out some pictures of me and Zack by the beach. I used the scrap pieces from the photos that were all in varying shades of blue and decoupaged around the frame to give it a tile-like appearance.

On a sad note of blue, I found out today that a friend's son came from the States a few days before Christmas and the day after he arrived, he was struck down by a driver who was talking on her mobile. He was 19 and the driver is 20. The young man (who is a twin) died 2 days before Christmas and the driver is now in the hospital as she is unable to deal with the trauma of the tragedy. There is a law in Kuwait that no one can talk on the mobile while driving but unfortunately it is not enforced properly. I for one do not understand what is so important that one cannot wait to get to a stopping point to talk with someone. There was a time when phonebooths were found on the side of the road; but in this day age, folks seem to think that their car is a phonebooth. I do hope that this will be a lesson learned by anyone who hears of this story. I pray for peace and understanding for the families. Wishing each and every one of you a most wonderful and beautiful day! Stay safe! Peace & blessings, Tammy

So sorry to hear about your friend's son. I don't know what people are thinking when they think they can drive and do everything else! It is against the law here also, but that doesn't stop people!

And the result is that many lives are ruined by this one accident!

I love P.F. Changs, and I wish there was a Kath Kidson store around here. Your frame turned out so nice too. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's son. I'm going to tell my kids this story. How sad for all involved.
Blessings,
Marcia

Good morning, Tammy! P.F. Changs is always a good choice! Love their food! I SO wish their was a Cath Kidson anywhere near me--I'd be there in a heartbeat! Lucky you--beautiful finds there! Great picture frame, too!

So sorry about your friend's son--what a tragedy--for both parties...

Hope you're continuing to have a beautiful Christmas time with your family and friends!

Karen was telling me that it was her neighbor that it happened to. Didn't realize you two knew the same people. Its always sad when a tragedy that is avoidable happens. On a lighter note, enjoyed spending time with you and the girls for lunch. Too bad the others couldn't come and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and company. Your frame is soooooo cute and creative.....such a simple idea that turned out beautiful.
Just realized you changed your page. Looks homey and peaceful.

So sorry to hear of this tragic death. There are laws in Pa. about this too but how do they enforce it??
I have a niece who is 18 & when she comes to visit me she will actually prop her phone up in her lap & talk to me while texing. No kidding.... Finally I told her this was rude & the next time to lock it in her car. She does.... I think it is stupid that people are so attached to these contraptions.
Sorry, just my little rant....
Happy New Year!!
Love,
Marilyn

I love the kitchen tea towels ~ they are really sweet. I had never heard of Kath either!! Sometimes I feel I'm living under a rock!!

So sorry about such a tragic death so close to the Holidays. I agree with you that nothing can be so important that you risk your life and others just to talk on a phone.

Have a Happy New Year!

Pretty, pretty blues, Tammy~especially the top two pictures! Did you crochet a beanie hat or something? It's pretty.
You're killin' me with the Cath Kidston store in your area! Arghhh! I've loved her stuff for 10 or 15 years now and the closest store is up in West LA. So, once in a while, I get to place an on-line order and pay the exhorbitant shipping from the UK. Just placed one as a matter of a fact. I'd rather do that than drive around in LA. So you see why you're killin' me having a shop so close ;)
Happy Blues~

Dear Tammy, your blog is like real life - sometimes happy-making, sometimes sad - today it is both - and it is always wonderful... The story of the young man is so tragic. I also hate it when people are talking on their mobiles - ga-ga-ga.... - and don't watch the trafic. I am so sorry for your friend!!!
And on the other side you show and tell us so pretty things! And as I can see, you changed your Header and sidebar - a new look for a new year! It's really pretty!
Big hugs and Good Luck!!!

How horrific. These cell phones are both a curse and a blessings. I so agree we should not be talking on the phone while driving. but I must admit I have done it on occassion. That will be one of my resolutions... to pull over to talk. Love those kitchen towels you bought. I have never been to one of those stores. I will have to seek one out. you are looking so skinny in the pic with Mel. You would be proud of some of the things I have been eating lately. day by day I go. Spent today shopping in Muskegon with mom. I bought quite a few things for the shabby room. will be posting them of course. love!!

Merry Christmas, Tammy--although a bit late. I love your frame--very beachy looking! I also feel so sad for your friend's son. How awful to have that happen just before Christmas! I live in Maine and it's a law here as well that you cannot talk on a cell phone while driving. It's not enforced here either---there are just too many drivers breaking the law! I so wish there was something within the cell phone that would shut the phone down if it could sense you were driving--kwim? So sad.

All of the items you posted in the pics are so lovely.
My heart just breaks to hear about your friends son. It is so difficult to loose a child and it somehow seems worse at Christmas, for reason's I cannot understand. We will keep them in prayer!
Hugs,
Rose

Your blues are lovely as always. You have such eclectic stuff, and you have a wonderful way of making it all look like it was made to be together. Lunch looks nice, but it does not look like many showed up. I am sure people are still traveling for the holiday from school.
So very sad to hear about your friend's son. Cell phone usage while driving is a big problem here as well. I am sure I have told you the story of the 5 teenage girls who were killed in NY a few years back while we were visiting. Texting while driving. So very sad. I hope an incident like this will make the government take a closer look at enforcing the law that says you are not supposed to talk on the phone while driving.
Love the picture frame.
Have a good night!
Love,
Renee

I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend's son. :(

With all due respect, I don't text or use my cell phone regularly, so I actually have a difficult time understanding people who do, but I do feel there are other distractions in the car, like switching the radio station, putting in cd's, watching movies or GPS, reaching for something that's fallen on the floor, or even just gazing out the window away from the road - I've done all of those things - and so I think no law can fully protect one from distractions and there will always be tragedies, such as those that have struct our family many years ago long before the days of cell phones, in the loss of a cousin hit on his bicycle on a farm road, by another farmer who didn't see him, or my other infant cousin who died when my Uncle swerved to avoid a grain truck and crashed. No, I don't think people should talk on the phone while driving, but all I'm saying is there are many other distractions and tragedies still happen. I don't believe in Government regulation of everything and sometimes I feel that's what is happening here in the States.

I love the items you found on your shopping trip. I happily have not left the house except to do ice skating and the movies and am not looking forward to returning to the real world next week, when we return to work.

Hope you have a blessed New Year's celebration with your family and friends.

Kindest regards
Linda

IT IS SO SAD ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS SON. PLEASE KNOW THAT I AM THINKING AND PRAYING FOR YOU AND HER FAMILY. WHAT A TRAGIC LOSS. AND THE YOUNG GIRLS FAMILY. SHE NEEDS IT ALSO. IT IS TRAGIC WHEN AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED HAPPENS. I SEE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME ON THEIR CELL PHONES WHILE DRIVING. I GET VERY UPSET AND TRY TO GET OUT OF THEIR WAY. AS I KNOW THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE PHONE CALL THEN DRIVING. I HOPE THAT IN 2010 THE LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL START TO PULL THESE PEOPLE OVER AND GIVE THEM A TICKET. MAYBE THEN SOMETHING WILL MAKE THESE PEOPLE THINK TWICE BEFORE ANSWERING OR MAKING A CALL WHILE DRIVING.
TAMMY YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE A GOOD 2010.
LOVE KAY
