A Favorite Thing: Crochet Rocks

Walking is my favorite form of exercise.
There's always something interesting to see.
Like today.
One very fluffy rooster waddling across the road.
While I am walking, I always keep my eyes peeled for rocks.
Even while on vacation, I am on the hunt.
My hook and yarn are always with me no matter where I go.
These crocheted rocks were collected and made while we were in Sri Lanka this past summer.

And this rock was picked up and put in my pocket today.
Before the night is over, it will have its very own crocheted cover just like the 6 I collected on previous walks this week.
And all the ones before.
Before blogging, I would never in a million years have thought to crochet a rock cover.
But now I'm hooked!
Crochet rocks!! (literally and figuratively)!

Today I'm once again joining Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage for
Happy Saturday everyone!

I;m loving your crocheted rocks (and puns) :-) they look great in a bowl and wonderful colors. Also make a good paper weight, if anyone uses them anymore! I'm curious to know what you did with your shawl.

Crochet Rocks! Love it!! I hope you never travel in a trailer and collect rocks...Lucille Ball classic. How fun to travel with crochet hook and yarn at all times. Walking is wonderful. Beautiful weekend dear...

This is such a cute idea, Tammy! They make a nice little natural touch grouped in the basket. I never learned hoe to crochet but I can knit...I just haven't done it in years. I remember it being very relaxing.

I hope you are having a great day and thanks for stopping by!

XO,
Jane

Where did you get the idea to crochet rock "clothes"? Did you make the one that Alicia has on her table in Posie Gets Cozy blog? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Dearest Tammy,
Walking really does put us in touch with our surroundings. There are so many little miracles to admire around us! You keep finding some fabulous rocks and they look special with their lace crocheted cover.
Enjoy whatever you are doing.

Well, I do know how to crochet, but I haven't crocheted a rock yet - looks like I have to get going on that! Love your crocheted rocks, Tammy.

Thanks so much for joining in this week!

All the rocks look wonderful together...I guess the more the better.
thanks for dropping by my blog today. Yes, I am trying to get back into my routine of blogging on a reg. basis.
Hope you continue to feel well and have no pain. I'm sure looking forward to 'no pain'. Boy, the little things we take for granted... when we can't do them because of something giving us pain.
I always enjoy your posts.

I love going for walks too! But now that it is icy out, I have to stick to the treadmill. Sadly, there's not as much to see. LOL!

Such a cute little Rooster!!

What a great way to remember your vacation and even your lovely walks around your area. Crochet is lovely, wish I knew how, but too much arthritis now :) Thanks for sharing with us. Mary

Riding horses was always my favorite but since I have no more horses it is walking too! You see so much more when you walk. The rooster must be a special breed....how handsome is he?
I have one smooth rock to crochet a cover for but there are no smooth rocks here, they're all jagged. The smooth one I've had for years.
I love that picture with the beer, the sunshine and crochet....heaven!
Take care and TTYS!

Hi Tammy....Swimming is my favorite form of exercise. But walking sounds nice, too. (In good weather.)

I think your crocheted rock covers are very, very unique.

They are so pretty....love the soft color of the rocks and the smoothness of them. And the colors you used to crochet little 'coats' for these rocks are perfect! Love the bowl of them!
I pick up rocks where ever I go, too. But they usually are granite or quartz and are more rugged looking....not destined to have 'coats'. But rather put in my garden!
What is it about them? We're hooked for sure!
We're headed to TX for a week to see our dau and family and then hubby and I are going to go on a little side trip to Dallas and parts in between to antique and take cemetery photos. A mini vacation for us before winter hits!
And we'll be stuffing our faces with turkey that my dau is cooking and I'm not!!!!
Warm hugs for a great week in your neck of the woods!

I love those nice rounded stones you pick up - perfect for crochet covers! Walking is such great exercise and lets you see things close up and personal (unlike whizzing by on a bike). :)

Have a great week!

Well walking is always good, I like to be in the open for some of the day, I was working in a high rise building on the 26th floor for about 10 years before I left work for good and now I like the fresh air.
I have never crocheted rocks but make them if I have leftover cement, I put it into a small plastic bag tie up the end and scrunch up the plastic to make the shape,
you never know what you will get.

I always thought crochet and coffee were the perfect combination....now I am rethinking that. :-)

The rocks are great. I hope to try the same one day.

O MY God! I love the label on your Lion lager!! I have a thing for the big cats (being a Leo, myself). I would have peeled it off and stuck it in my junk journal. You really are mad about crochet rocks, aren't you, LOL! I have to say, when I made my first few, I felt the same way but you have taken it to another level :-)

Dear Tammy
Love your rocks and how you crochet little covers for them.
I'm like you, it was only after I started blogging that I became so aware of my surroundings.
It's funny, now I love taking photos of clouds - they totally fascinate me ( I must do a cloud post soon)!!!
I really enjoyed your walk - love that fluffy rooster out for his early morning walk as well!!
Enjoy your week - I've been working full time too so I haven't been visiting... not a lot of energy left at night!!
hugs
Shane ♥

Crocheted rocks - that is so cool! Do you make the pattern as you go along?

besomom said...

What size hook do you use to crochet your rock covers? I made one once using thread and a tiny little hook and found it very stressful, but I do like how yours look all gathered together for display.

The temperature in the afternoon here is perfect for walking though with hubby still at work it's not something that we often do but I do enjoy bush walking very much. I tried crocheting over a rock but without a lot of success, I should give it another try all of your crochet rocks look lovely. They would make a beautiful paper weight. x

YOU rock, Tammy! They are so beautiful in that basket. My Little Man always collects rocks... I have two sitting in a window sill just where he left them during his last visit... along with a stick "sword". =) He calls the rocks his "tresures". ;) Yours are certainly so. blessings ~ tanna
