A Wonderful Journey on Thankful Thursday

Good Thursday to one and all. This evening my friend Kathy and I went to visit The House of Mirrors. It is a small museum in the residential home of Lydia Al Qattan, an artist who came to Kuwait from Italy. Her husband, now deceased, was a renowned Kuwaiti artist. I have heard of this place, but in 15 years of being here, this was my first visit. Let me just say it is awe-inspiring! Every surface is covered in a mosaic of mirrors. Each room has a theme. She explained the process, the family stories and history behind her designs, and was so quirky and lovable. She described the tour as a journey. It was that and more! So please, sit back, relax and enjoy the journey through pictures (although they don't do justice to her amazing work). Something you definitely need to see to believe!

THE HOUSE

WORLD HALL (The kitchen)

PLANET EARTH HALL (The living room)

UNIVERSE HALL (bedroom)

SEA WORLD HALL (Bathroom)

KNOWLEDGE HALL (Library)

This beautiful stairwell ...

Led us to a gallery upstairs. I did not take a lot of pictures in this space. I did snap a photo of these wonderful pieces -- their bodies are made from the blades of a ceiling fan.

I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to visit this beautiful home. What an absolute treasure it is. Wishing you all much peace, joy and many, many blessings, Tammy

Mashallah!! Without a doubt the most amazing home I have ever seen. I can imagine it was truly amazing to actually walk through it. I have not heard about this place while I was in Kuwait. Now that I am gone, it seems like there are a lot of really neat places that I missed. Glad you enjoyed your evening!!

Love ya,
Renee

Thank you so much for mentioning this in your visit to my post. How absolutely amazing was that tour? I am surprised that they allow people to walk on those stairs! I loved how even though this is such an unbelievable house, that they still had the "I love my grandma" frame on the frige with a grandchild's picture in it! Blessings to you, Lori

It IS awesome! Was there many times with women who'd come to teach in Kuwait from all over the world. We were blessed to have the tour with Lydia & her husband (before he passed away). Happy Birthday - soon! Are you all set for your trip to Sri Lanka?
Blessings, Sheryll

Tammy,
What a crazy cool place! You see the most wonderful things in your faraway home. How lucky to explore & discover them all. Thanks for sharing it with me, it's almost as good as being there. Okay, maybe that's stretching it a bit. But it's fun seeing them through your eyes. Lisa

Hey there girl! Just got back from Dubai and stopped over here first thing in the morning to see what you've been up too. Obviously, you've kept yourself busy. This house is definately beautiful and unique and surely must be seen in person to appreciate the full beauty of it. I will have to go there with the kids, or maybe not. Could imagine the mess she would have to clean up with hand smeared mirrors...hehe. Hope you had a great weekend. My wish for you today is "beauty" and that you encounter it everyday, even appreciating it in the small things that you see....look in the mirror baby...hahaha!
