Step-by-step

Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air — explode softly — and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth — boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn’t go cheap, either — not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination.
~Robert Fulghum~

There was a time last year when I had heard about The Secret Garden but had no idea where it was located.  Now that I'm involved in the planning of the yarnbombing project, I've lost count of how many times I've been out there.
The project is slowly coming together, bit by bit, piece by piece, step by step.

It's amazing what color can do to brighten up a space.
On yet another sad note, I read yesterday of the passing of Marinke Slump of A Creative Being.  If you are a crocheter and have ever searched for mandala patterns, no doubt you have come across Wink and her wonderful blog where she shares many free patterns and is well known for her vibrant, colorful manadalas.  Her first book Boho Crochet was published earlier this year and her second book is due out in the Fall.  She was a creative, beautiful soul who suffered from depression and sadly took her own life this past Friday.

Kathryn of Crochet Concupiscence has organized a crochet project in memory of Wink that you can read about here.

Blessings to all,

The Secret Garden is coming together nicely Tammy. I like the happy face piece ... it almost looks like the Canadian flag :) How long will you keep the yarn on the trees I wonder. Here the yarn doesn't last long after a few rains make it soggy and saggy.

It's so sad to read about Wink's sudden leaving. I did not follow her blog as I don't crochet, but I visited her blog from your link and read her sister's parting post. At least she was trying to make it through her depression and was getting help. Such a difficult time for her family.

Hi Tammy,

LOVE the little quote/story you shared - crayolas from the sky, yes, that would be wonderful though knowing me, one would clobber me right on the head, LOL. ;)

That's so sad about Marinke. I had moments in my life where I felt that way about ending it all, but thankfully did not. I understand hopelessness and this world gets to be too much for some sensitive souls to handle. ♥

Hope you have a wonderful evening,
Linda

Loved the little story. It's difficult some days to ignore all those that are determined to take the joy from our lives. Feel so bad for the lady who took her life. Your park looks wonderful. Hope it's a wonderful day for you. Jan

I'm so excited to see your yarn-bombing project evolve! I heard of Wink's passing and read her sister's post telling about it. I wish people would take the advice of "it gets better" and hang in there. Just so sad. Hugs, T

Your garden is looking so beautiful and vibrant...so needed with so much sad news lately. Terrorist attacks and beautiful, talented women like Wink passing so sadly. We need more yarn bombings and happiness on this planet. Thank you Tammy for working so diligently to make your corner of the world a happier place.
Blessings,
Betsy

Tammy, I am so sorry for the loss of your blog-friend. Even in her own distress, though, she left so much color for others to appreciate.
I've been thinking that my life seems to be filled with extremes lately. Now I get the feeling yours may be the same. Well, on we go, making our little patch of earth a bit more colorful and hopefully cheering to those who may need a little boost.

Perfect quote, Tammy! It goes so well with your beautiful project. The garden is looking so beautiful. I was heartbroken over Wink's death; so young and so talented and beautiful and sweet. She will be missed.

Love the image of boxes of crayons parachuting slowly to earth. Everyone could spend their time creating instead of destroying.
Sorry to hear about your blogging acquaintance. Depression is an awful disease.

I love your Secret Garden and all of you who have worked so hard to create it and the lovely yarn "bombings".
I didn't connect the dots to Wink until I went to the blog and yes, I had visited her blog several times. What a talented and sharing and giving person she was. It is so sad that some of the most giving and talented people are plagued with depression. I am thinking of making a few mandalaa for the project in her memory. Thanks for posting about this.
