Seeking Shade

When I headed out at 8 o'clock this morning for a walk, I thought I was beating the heat.  Boy was I wrong!
Our high today was 118 degrees.
And with the sun beating down, it is just WAY too hot.
Yet street cleaners were out there in their yellow jumpsuits and workers were at construction sites.  I don't know how they manage.  Or why they should even have to under these conditions.
Established landscapes are doing well despite the heat.
And dates are growing again.
Trees and bushes that provide shade and naturally cool the air are always a welcome sight.
The closer I got to home, I just wanted to get there ... quick.  I wanted to run but didn't even have the energy to do so.
It is the kind of heat that literally makes you feel sick.  After a shower, it took me about 30 minutes to recover.
I walked again tonight and let me tell you, even though it was over 100 degrees, it was a whole lot more bearable.  And that full moon was absolutely gorgeous!

I will miss wandering up and down the neighborhood streets as I normally do during the daytime.  But for now, walking will have to take place at sunset.

I'll just have to find other ways to get pictures of my surroundings.
Like stopping my car along the side of the road to photograph this beauty.
Hope you are having a terrific Tuesday.

Yes, be careful. I can't even imagine that kind of heat. I get sick when it's hot. It's like my thermostat is broken. Pretty flowers and green even in that heat.

Stay cool my friend. We are not near that hot, but the humidity has kicked in and I still feel like I am melting. Wishing you many wonderful walks.

That hot at 8 a.m., so hard to find time to take a walk, or to jog. When does your weather cool down?

Wow, that is hot and I do feel sorry for those who have to work outside during the midday. But those pink flowers seem to like it! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Wow! I admire you for getting out there and moving your feet! And aren't those plants amazing, with their ability to adapt and thrive. Plants are a constant source of inspiration to me.
We've been having a long series of 90F days (when like you I felt sick when I came in from chores - this is August weather, not May!). And literally overnight we dropped to 44F days, which is of course March weather, not June! Today is the third day of cold rain, and honestly, I feel chilled to the bone and cannot get warm. What a switch from last week, when I was soaked in sweat every time I stepped outside.
I hope all my seedlings are able to recover from this dramatic change, and grow like that gorgeous flowering shrub in your picture...is it a bougainvillea?
Stay hydrated, Tammy!

Just when I think n o one is as hot as our 107 degrees in the Nevada desert heat, you go and prove me wrong, my friend. Stay hydrated on your walks - I know the feeling of sheer exhaustion while out in it! Lovely pictures, as always, Tammy - Happy Tuesday!

Obviously we never have that heat here in Central Illinois, but we do have hot humid summers for us. I love hot weather and do not like to be cold but especially do not like to be cold inside a building therefore avoid using air conditioning until it's in the 90s though many here seem to like air as soon as it's in the 60s - don't know why that is, because I think that's ODD. Anyways.... you do have extreme heat. It's interesting to think about the night walking because here I'd never go out and walk about our town at night. It's not safe to do so, even though we live in a small town there is a considerable amount of crime. The lights on the path behind our house are pretty but we don't particularly like them because we wish our yard were completely dark at night for when we want to sit out there and having the lights on all night, only seem to encourage the bad people to use the path in the middle of the night because who honestly is going to be walking between midnight and 4:00 a.m. here unless they're up to no good (it's certainly not hot here right now).

Enjoy the beginning of your wonderful time off doing as you please!!! :)
Kind regards,
Linda

Oh Tammy, I would NOT survive in Kuwait. I absolutely loathe heat. I spent 12 years in Arizona and that just about did me in. Now I'm back in cold country and happy. Gosh, 119 degrees. That's brutal. Thanks so much for your visits. Love them. Susan

Oh, Tammy...that kind of heat is insane! You are lucky you didn't get heat stroke. Is it safe to walk the streets at night?

118!!!!!tammy, my friend, there should be NO walking when it's that hot. Please take care of yourself and listen to your body. Beautiful pictures though. :-)

I would not be able to live there. It gets maybe 103 at the highest here and I just about die. Try to stay cool and take care of yourself. Hugs, Diane

That is terribly hot even at such an early time and not good at all for you to be outside. I much prefer Winter time and being able to warm up rather than trying to cool down. I hope you are keeping cool. Enjoy your evening walks. x

Stay cool and cover yourself well while going out. Here the temperatures are coming down now . I need so much of walking but I just don't push myself hard on that task and end up with 20 min walk only. You are my inspiration for walking although I haven't told you this earlier. If you can walk in hot weather why can't I get over with my excuses about walking in day time.

Walking in the heat can overwhelm the body making one tired the rest of the day. Be good to yourself and enjoy shade and a comfortable chair with a cool drink. Lots of water. Or just stay inside with a large fan and AC. -- barbara

Amazing that you can walk in this kind of heat and that the plants continue to grow and present you with the wonders of nature.
The full moon has brought some very cold night temps for the first week of winter but the days have mostly been very pleasant. The moon was spectacular here on Wednesday night.

Dearest Tammy,
The desert climate can be very harsh indeed and I wish you happy sunset walks. Even if the eye can enjoy its surroundings a lot less.
That bougainvillea is a dream; wish we could have one like that. In Indonesia we did see them all the time...
Hugs and blessings to you.
Mariette

Be careful and drink lots of water. I would really have a tough time in that kind of heat!

The bougainvillea is stunning! I cannot imagine such heat. Be careful, Tammy. I know you love your walks but as you say, they probably should be done at sunset.
