Five on Friday #5

This will be the 5th time I've joined Amy's Five on Friday.
Five simple pleasures of the past week.

Coffee Connections
Companionship, conversation, coffee, fruit, bread and jam.  A lovely 2 hours well spent with friends yesterday morning.  Can you guess where we went?

Exploring by Car
It may be too hot for me to explore by foot right now -- the current temperature at 12:30 p.m. is 109 degrees Fahrenheit -- but I can drive around.  And whenever I see a beautifully landscaped home, I am inclined to stop my car and snap a photo from the driver's seat.

Creative endeavors
There is always something on my hook, whether it is for the yarnbombing project, a useful project or just for the heck of it, I'm always making something.  Walking was my meditation, now I resort to crochet since I'm indoors most of the time.  Through Instagram, I learned about a charitable crochet project started by Sabina Speich.  Her aim is to bring awareness to and raise money for those who are suffering with depression and anxiety disorders, something she deals with herself.  She posted links to patterns that can be made and mailed for her project.  The first one is a colorful coaster from the blog of Le Monde de Sucrette called Crazy Coasters.  Quick and easy.  You can find details about the project at crochetpower.net.

Out my window
Preening, strutting, exploring, munching.  I am happy that I have two balconies filled with plants that invite our feathered friends to stop by for some sweet relief from the scorching temperatures.

Discovering
In spite of the heat, I still find moments where I can venture outside for a short period of time to capture beautiful scenery and surroundings.
Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.

Happy Friday!

Gosh that café where you met your friend certainly believes in branding doesn't it!! Hee hee! Your crochet coasters are lovely, and it is a very worthwhile cause as well. I hope that you enjoy your little times outside when you can bear the heat or it is cool enough for you. Thank you so much for joining in. I hope that you have a great weekend - or are having a great one already I should say in your case! xx

The coasters are great! And the idea behind them equally good. I love it when people use the power of internet (and crafting) for good.

I can see why cool, quiet crochet is a favourite hobby of yours! I couldn't imagine living in 109 degree heat on a daily basis. Yo do have A/C right??

That's a nice collection of five things. I really like the crochet work, will be checking out that pattern.

In the first dove picture I mistook the planter base for a waterer, like the ones made for hens. And that made me wonder - do people put out water for the birds? And the street kitties? I cannot imagine the heat you experience there; I think 105F is the highest sustained temp I've lived through for any length of time, and it was tough.
Enjoy your crocheting! Do you ever listen to audiobooks while you crochet? It's not the same as walking, I know, but it can take one's mind on a nice ramble :)

You are just the best, taking the time to make something for those in need all the while you are melting. It is hot and humid here but not that hot!

Stay cool,
Meredith

What a lovely picture-mosaic! It breaths the beauty of alldays life, my favorite is the scenerie with the shadows.
How kind of you to give the doves such a nice place and you are living in good neiborhood with them...

Lovely coasters Tammy and for a great cause too, what would we do without crochet? I used to have so many pots on my balcony in Syria too my own little garden, I remember the people from the flats above would hang their washing out and the water would drip down and water some of them a little it was always difficult to keep them well watered they used to dry out so quickly, it's nice to see the birds taking advantage. Great to enjoy time out with friends in a lovely cafe the food looks yummy. Enjoy your weekend and stay cool :) xx

I do fancy living in a place where it is too hot to walk outside, just for a short while at least. I have enjoyed visiting today Tammy!
