Craft as Therapy

“It is only with true love and compassion that we can begin to mend what is broken in the world. It is these two blessed things that can begin to heal all broken hearts.”

Steve MaraboliLife, the Truth, and Being Free

I published my Five on Friday post before we heard the horrible news of the suicide bomber at a mosque here in Kuwait.  My husband and I were actually on our way home from one of the malls when his aunt called from Jerusalem wanting to make sure he was okay,  It was the first we heard of the blast that killed 26.  As a young lady said on her Instagram account, "Terrorism knows no religion."  Ramadan is supposed to be a holy month but has now been tainted for so many who lost loved ones.

This type of act is meant to incite fear and dissension within a community or country.
The only way to fight back is to unite and show solidarity.

A  meeting of our crochet group for The Secret Garden project had already been planned for Saturday afternoon, and while some did drop out, we still had a nice group of 7 meet up.  More squares were donated and there was much discussion of how we will proceed and what our future plans will be.
It's nice to come together with like-minded people for a common cause.  On Instagram, there is a hashtag called #craftastherapy which is certainly accurate.  Our 2 hour meeting flew by in no time.

I hope you find time today for whatever brings you comfort.
Best wishes,

I thought of you and your family immediately after hearing the news. You are right, violence and terrorism knows no religious bounds. It is horrible what is happening in the world today, and it makes it even more horrible when it is right next door, it feels like life is not stable anymore, but that is what terrorists want, they want to spread fear. I wish you all the best my friend, stay safe.

I heard about an attack in Kuwait and instantly worried about you and your family. It's so sad that some people think that doing this is a good thing.. I simply cannot fathom how they can think this way. We are suffering here too from the 8 fine people that were shot in a church after they welcomed in the young man who sat with them for an hour in their prayer study meeting and then pulled out a gun and shot them. ::sigh:: When will this madness end? I'm glad you're safe. ((hugs)), Teresa

Lovely, lovely crochet pieces. Love the variety and colors. I really need to buy some new yard and start knitting dish cloths again. I'm out.

Your crochet piece with the heart is cute!! lovely squares!! That is very sad about such horrific incidents and what is more worrying is that such things bring out anger and more criminal tendencies among few victims. It is a chain reaction going on for years and God knows how it is going to stop.

Hi Tammy,
Thank you so much for your comment, it was good to hear from you. I have been in London for a few days and was aware of all the atrocities around the world. I thought of you after seeing the pictures on the news. I love your crochet and have been working on some myself as a change from Uni work.
Keep well and safe.
Hugs, Angela.xx

There are no words that can adequately express what you want to say at a time like this, but your words do. So very well. It is such a very sad thing. I am glad that you and your family and friends are alright. Hugs. xx

I didn't hear of the attack until I read your post. It is so very sad. We were horrified with the Tunisia event- where tourists were shot down with no apparant reason, and just the day before me and my husband talked about visiting it again (this would be the third time)in the near future, but now we guess we (never will) won't.
I think you are doing a great thing with your crochet group and keep up the good work! The squares are fantastic! I will also have to check that tag on IG.

Keep doing crochet and art, it IS great therapy. And it seems to be more and more precious to have real people to exchange words with. I realized that yesterday while on facebook - there's so much trash flying around that it's easy to forget who YOU are. Your little crochet heart piece is inspired and pretty. Diane

Fear. I truly believe that is what ALL of these terror attacks want to instill in all of us. And if we let them terrify us into abject fear of leaving our homes and countries, they will have won. It is so sad. Do they not realize that they are helping no one, especially their own causes, whatever they may be? I am SO relieved you and your family are alright Tammy. I pray daily for the madness in this world to end. On a lighter note, those squares are beautiful and will certainly brighten up the garden. Cheers to you and your friends for doing all you can to make your corner of this world a happier place.
Blessings,
Betsy

Dearest Tammy,
A very sad fate for those families involved and especially during the Ramadan season!
Evil spirits that love to create fear.
Crafts are a wonderful therapy that unites us in a blessed way.
Sending you hugs and blessings.

It's interesting how blogging makes one think instantly of those bloggers in other parts of the world. When I heard about the bombing in Kuwait, I thought of you. Such sadness when people treat each other in such awful ways in the name of religion.
Creating something, anything, is great therapy. I think that's why, when someone passes away, others bring food - cooking is something to do with one's hands while thoughts roam free.
Keep on crocheting!

Hello Tammy....

I did think of you immediately and am so glad you and your family are okay. Terrorism has no boundaries. It is tragic. My heart goes out to all the family members who lost loved ones so needlessly and violently.

Your creations in the club are darling. Good for all of you creative women! Susan p.s. Please STAY SAFE.

I am so glad you and your family are alright! I thought of you immediately as you are the only ones I know there but I also thought of all the lovely people you have introduced us too. You don't have to personally know someone though to feel their pain and their loss in some way as we are all connected and we all come from the same source regardless of what we name it. It is so sad no matter who or where....and so unnecessary. I do believe in the collective conscience and that praying for peace and healing and all of us sending out positive and healing thoughts does influence the energy in the universe. I also pray for the perpetrators that their hearts and minds will be changed for the better. I pray for peace for the ones who lost loved ones and are struggling with their grief. I cannot even imagine what they must be going through although my heart is sad and there are tears in my eyes.
I agree with you also that we cannot live in fear and that together we will overcome whatever hatred is out there in whatever form.
