Simple Pleasures: Sugar Cookies

Another Thursday (my how times flies) and another chance to join Dayle for Simple Pleasures.
Project Simple Pleasures2

The other nite the kids and I baked sugar cookies. The dough was divided into three balls and everyone did their own shaping and baking.

Zack managed to get 11 cookies out of his dough. He doesn't like icing so much so only decorated a few and managed to finish them all off by the end of the evening.

Yusef opted for a big cookie which he then cut in half, drizzled with icing, topped with a few banana slices and enjoyed with a big glass of milk.

I managed 12 cookies and decorated them with sunshine yellow icing.

Sugar cookies are a simple way to let your kids be a little creative in the kitchen. Although for this evening of baking, I bought a Betty Crocker packet of sugar cookie mix (I don't normally buy prepackaged mixes) -- my favorite sugar cookie recipe is one given to me by my good friend, Renee.

Even my kids agreed that homemade is so much better so we will be making up our own dough for another nite of baking very soon. And I will get to use these sweet cookie cutters that I found at an antique store this summer.

For more simple pleasures, please visit Dayle at A Collection of This and That.

Sending all good wishes your way for a simply wonderful day. Blessings, Tammy

This just reminded me of mama's kitchen! ... Of course, she'd have to keep "shoo-ing" me away, on account I only wanted to eat the raw dough! Thanks for the memories :)

Tammy,
What a perfect simple pleasure...yummy sugar cookies! My grandkids live in other states so I don't have anyone to bake cookies for!

Great idea to give them their own dough. I'm sure their personalities came through with the decorating! How fun!!

I love sugar cookies! So simple, but so tasty. The icing looks yummy, too. Baking is a wonderful way to make memories, and a wonderful simple pleasure.

Hi, Tammy! Sugar cookies are, indeed, one of life's sweetest pleasures! Love that you have the boys do their "own thing" with their batches...great idea! I'm a homemade cookie mommy, too...but once in a while, a quick fix is a good thing!

Hope you're having a beautiful day, my friend!

Aww. Your kids will remember these sweet simple activities you do with them, and cherish them forever. It's the recipe of love, and can't be store bought, either. Although I don't know how you can bake with that heat going on. lol. Thank you so much for your supportive comments. You have no idea how much strength I've received from them. Take care. Hugs.

I had never thought of bananas in sugar cookies - but it sounds wonderful! And yes, what a better way to spend time than in the kitchen cooking with family! Great "simple pleasure" for sure!

Yum! Sugar cookies are one of our favorites! I cheat on the frosting though, as I am really bad at making good frosting and so I use canned creme cheese frosting... sooooo good! Have a great day! Theresa

Your time spent baking cookies with your sons will, no doubt, become a warm and wonderful memory for them. I like the idea of frosting and bananas on top of the cookie. Very creative.
Love your cookie cutters. I have the same gingerbread man, only mine is blue.

you've given me a great idea for later today. The kids will love and even though I'm not a baker...we can do this. Simple pleasure!

I'm with Zack. I don't like icing very much! :-)) cookies are among my favorite things. I go directly to them at the bakery :-) sadly, I can't have much, or I end up having a cookie shape ;-)
it's the simple things and activities that makes us happy, isn't it?
have a lovely day!

It's wonderful that you all had the chance to bake cookies together! Maybe someday Sarah and I will have that chance again, though I suspect not until around Christmas. :o)

I'm not a big cookie eater, but sugar cookies are delightful and I love your vintage cookie cutters. So cute.

Sugar cookies are the only kind of "white" cookies I eat...(I reserve my calories for chocolate cookies) and just like Zak, no icing for me! Yumm!!!

It's always nice to spend a little time bonding while baking something yummy. I agree about making homemade...so much better taste but sometimes something quick will do. Afterall, they did eat all of them....lol.

Oh, I love cookie baking!! One of my favorite things to do with my girls when they were young was to make cut out cookies and watch them create.

Great one!

Love the ease of sugar cookies. Those vintage red cookie cutters are the same ones we enjoyed as a child. We had a big set of them, and my favorite was always the camel.

I love sugar cookies too and my kids aways loved to roll them out, cut them and frost. Now I want to go make something with sugar in it! lol

What a wonderful way to spend precious time with your kids! I remember when my own son was small; we made cookies and fruit pizzas and all kinds of things. (Now he helps his wife! LOL! Time surely does fly.) Your children did a marvelous job on those cookies--and so did you!

What a wonderful way to spend some nice time with the kids. I laughed to know how differently Zack and Yusef chose to make their cookies. Amazing how brothers can be so different from each other. I know that story well in my house. I LOVE the fact that you still use my cookie recipe. I make them every Christmas time for teachers at school Do you remember that night when we made 10 or 12 dozen of them for the BLS bazaar? I thought I would never make another sugar cookie again. HA!
Glad you had such a nice time making cookies. Lots of baking going on here too, but nothing quite as wonderful as sugar cookies!

Love ya,
Renee

Hi Tammy, and thanks for the visit. I love sugar cookies. Simple but oh so good, and what a great night you had with your children. Making beautiful memories with them that will last a lifetime. I know. My kids are grown now, and they still talk about shared time in the kitchen. Every Christmas now, me and my now grown sons and daughter get in the kitchen to make at least one batch of sugar cookies...so they can still each decorate them to their pleasure. Loved this post. Brought back great memories.
Hugs,
Cindy
