16th Annual Mother's Day Breakfast

Operation HOPE-Kuwait is a Mission of Mercy which provides practical humanitarian relief primarily to expatriate laborers in Kuwait in a manner that restores their God-given dignity. Its goals: Help individuals on a case-by-case basis as needs arise; offer opportunities for families of the local & expatriate community to serve together; provide at least 5,000 needy workers with winter warmth each year; equip embassy shelters with clothing, blankets & other basic necessities.

We enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day Breakfast yesterday at the Movenpick Hotel. It's always a lovely morning of fellowship and fun. My friends Melissa and Elena joined me along with the other 80 women who purchased tickets.

"The Price is Right" was one of the games played. Melissa's name was picked to be one of three guessing the price of a gift basket of teas. She didn't win, but certainly had fun.

The quilt, for which we sold nearly 2000 raffle tickets, was won by a Middle School teacher at my school. She bought a book of 25 tickets from me. I was so excited when they called her name. Every time she would see me at school, she would say "Tammy, that quilt is gonna be mine! Lo and behold, she named it and claimed it. When I presented her with it today, she was hootin' and hollerin' at the top of her lungs.

Trash to Treasures is spearheaded by Operation Hope and is a program that allows Phillipino women in their embassy shelter to spend their time productively. They make "beads" from old magazines pages and string them with other beads to make the most unique jewelry.

Clothing that is either stained or torn is donated and used to make these colorful rag rugs.

Let's just say I bought some of everything! All the monies go back to the women in the shelter so that they can buy the basic necessities that are not provided to them.

Melissa had me take pictures of our food to show you the difference between my choices ...

and her choices.

Melissa is a meat and potatoes kinda girl. She's also pregnant with her 7th child and found out yesterday it will be a girl! Thank goodness I have plenty of time to make lots of baby gifts as she's not due til end of September, beginning of October. Of course, being the procrastinator that I am, I should probably get started right away!

Today we've had clouds and light drizzle. Much needed and so much better than dust! I'm off to FINALLY create. Hope you are having a happy day in your corner of the world. Many blessings, Tammy

I like your food choices Tammy!! I am NOT a meat and potatoes girl. I could live on veggies and salad! I have been that way since I was little.
What a neat idea to recycle all those items and make beautiful useful things. I love to recycle too!!
Blessings~

Judging by your picture you are a very pretty hermit... I am kinda sorta one also although I do enjoy being with others but finding myslef tiring of it if it is loud and out of hand... Then I long for the comfort of back home again.... I am noted for asking Tom can we go home now.... He is more out going than I am.....I also like nothing to do with any form of a cutdown or opinions of others... Won't go there anymore .....

Hi Tammy, you guys look great. Wish i was there with you. That quilt looks really good. I love the way the ladies at the shelters recycle simple stuff, I have here flowers made of little plastic bags that our housekeeper gave me as a gift on mothers day. It was so nice of her, and now i know where all the bags went lol.
Hugs and Kisses

What a lovely day you had!! I loved the picture of you, Melissa and Elena, but I am not used to seeing her as a brunette. Funny how it is so hard for me to get used to her new look.
The lunch looks wonderful, and you have to know I would be eating from you plate (with the foul from Melissa's plate too to get some protein! HA!) Some things never change, and yes, I know she would be eating like that even if she was not pregnant.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW LITTLE "SHE". I need to get lots of pink floss and yarn. I can't wait to see her this summer. She might be getting baby gifts early from me. I will miss being able to throw her a shower like we did a few years back.

Trash to Treasure looks SO cool. I swear, I wish I had known about this stuff when I was there. I can't believe what you can do with one person's trash. It certainly is a treasure for everyone else. What a great cause!

Glad your friend won the quilt. It looks stunning in the picture!

Have a great evening creating!!!!!!!!

Love ya,
Renee
