Dubai: Day One

On Thursday we flew to Dubai where my husband had several meetings scheduled.  We always catch an early morning flight so that we are able to make a quick trip to The Dubai Mall where we visit our favorite bookstore, Kinokuniya.
And then we have Nordsee seafood soup and sourdough bread for lunch.  Even though I don't eat seafood anymore, this has been a tradition for us since our first trip to Dubai together so it's one that I maintain.
Back at the hotel, while he was taking care of business, I found ways to entertain myself.
A little crochet.  A little drink.  And a walk around the hotel grounds.
Although Dubai never does get as hot as Kuwait, it can be very, very humid during the summer.  Fortunately, the weather was actually pretty good while we were there.
The hotel is actually right across the street from the airport, but because of all the landscaping, it feels like you are in a lush, tropical environment.
That evening, our friend, Yamanaka, treated us to Japanese food and drink.
It's always nice to get away for the weekend and Dubai is a great place for just that.

Hope your weekend has been a good one.

Hi Tammy, It looks like you had a lovely trip. The hotel garden looks really lush. I wouldn't have thought that it's so close to the airport.

Fun to read about your nice weekend.

Change of scenery is among the best there is!
You feel refreshed and renewed :)

Then you got a little "cool" weather now at least.
Even though I have heard people say it is
in the evening down the seafront promenade.

The meal and the surroundings look great.
I have not eaten so much Japanese food but
my daughter loves sushi ...

Have a great evening!
Greetings Sussie

Looks like a perfect weekend trip to me!
Here, it is - and I can hardly believe I'm saying this, and I'm going to whisper so I don't ruin it - not raining today! I honestly cannot remember the last time we've had 24 hours w/o any rain. Grow, garden, grow!
Thanks for sharing your trip. I think I would have found a shady spot amongst all that striking vegetation and sat down to paint for a little while. Did you? :)

Looks like a lovely getaway! Two of my children have visited Dubai ( serving the military) and they have always commented on how much they loved it there.

I don't know why I've missed so many of your posts recently. I'm happy to catch up with what you've been doing. The weekend away in Dubai looks fabulous. The menu for the Japanese restaurant was impressive. I'd have a bit of difficulty with it! I liked the crocheted river rock from your last post. I'm going to try and do the same on our vacation later this month. Have a lovely week, Lisa

Picture witness your fantastic stay in Dubai.
I love such short trips - they are instant battery fillers for us. I can tell they were the same for you too.

How fun to have a relaxing time in Dubai. It looks almost like a spa day with the slippers, wine nd crochet too! I think the tradition of the seafood soup and bread meal is lovely. I'm a great fan of traditions. :-). Thanks for taking us along with you.
Blessings,
Betsy

Sounds like a perfect time, Tracy. I've heard Dubai is a wonderful place to visit. I think I'd be doing what you are doing...slowly checking out the scene and sipping a little wine later in the day. Please share more!

Oh how exciting! I love all your photos (especially the umbrellas). Glad you could get away. No seafood? Why? But glad you had your soup. :) Kit

Looks very fun!

Thanks for the info on seafood! Sounds like a great plan. I find I have stopped eating many meat products and it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. I can't say I am a vegan but I limit my consumption. I seem to be more into fruits and veggies lately. Must be because it is summer. :) Kit

Dearest Tammy,
So happy that you both had this weekend for meeting with your Japanese friend!
Both of us have been at Dubai airport but never visited the city...
Sending you hugs, finally catching up on blog readings.
We were on a short Mississippi cruise and this morning our B & B guest from Germany left after 4 nights with us.
Sure we don't run a B & B but friend and Lady Chef Maria ran out of rooms at her B & B and she called me with this request if I could host one of their frequent guests. Funny, we were at Oak Alley in Louisiana, almost starting the tour when she called and I did honor her request. All went well.
Love,
Mariette
