The Dilemma

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.
(The Land Before Time)

On the way to school one morning a couple of weeks ago, I saw a sight that I will never forget.  A kitty was crossing the street dragging her backside on the ground, her hind legs totally paralyzed.
I looked for her every day, but didn't see her again until one night last week.  I walked around the block to take her food and water and to talk to her.  She has the sweetest little meow.  I did this several times and I pondered the humane thing to do.  Leave her to live the only life she knows?  Try to catch her and take her to the vet to be euthanized?   I even asked for input from friends.
As it turns out, I got my answer last night.  As I took her food and water again, I was stopped by a man who saw what I was doing.  He said that his brother feeds the cat cat every day.  That she is a fighter.  She doesn't let any other cat take her food.  And she can move ... fast, no one can catch her.  He told me not to worry.  She's doing okay.

While so many turn a blind eye, it is nice to know that kindness does prevail.

How beautiful a day can be
When kindness touches it!

Oh Tammy, this warmed my heart. I would have done the same as you - tried to find her and feed her and help her. I'm so glad you ran into someone who knew that she was okay and doing well.

P.S I have to thank you for your coconut cookies recipe that you included in a post last week. I made them for my family on Saturday and they were a huge huge hit!!

I am so glad there are others as nice as you trying to help all those poor little cats. It warms my heart that this man tries to take care of them, too. You are so special Tammy to take such care of these babies, I am so glad they have you.

This post brought tears to my eyes. It must be so comforting to know that you are not alone in caring for the strays in your area, Tammy. While I haven't seen it with cats yet, I do know of many dogs via Facebook Animal Rescue pages that are paralysed and live full, happy lives. Their rescuers organise special wheelchairs to be made for them. As long as there is life, there is hope. You are a true blessing, Tammy....thanks for caring.

I love the quotes you picked for today ~ xo

Hi Tammy. I wonder what the heck happened to that cat to paralyze her back legs. Poor little thing. Our cats are so lucky, aren't they? Susan

Poor little thing...I think I would be tempted to try to catch her, bring her home and let her live a life of luxury inside. Thanks for caring so much!

Tammy, your kindness touches me deeply, and I'm sure Got takes into account how we treat animals.

We've nursed stray kitten, back to health several times, and like you, there were some I just didn't think could make it, but in His grace they did.

Blessings on you..I'm so glad I found your blog. You are such a delight to read and follow.

Dearest Tammy,

What a poor little kitten and what a fighter indeed.
For about a week now I heard something in our huge magnolia tree. At first I thought about a big hawk but couldn't spot one. Till one day I looked at an emaciated black and smoke colored kitten. We fed her and she let me pick her up and pat and cuddle. Guess we will have another family member. She needs to see a vet first off, she is so skinny and we want to check if she is healthy. How can people be so cruel to toss them out and have them fend for themselves?
One day, our Creator will make them pay the bill...
Hugs to you,
Mariette

we always have to take care of the creatures who are weaker than us. you help the kitten and this is beautiful! my family adopted a tiny kitten, who had some problems with health, who's legs were weak because he spent few night at the cold balcony... this cat then lived with us for 17 years! i am glad that we saved at least one creature. keep it up and hope the kitty does well :)

Hi Tammy, I have tears in my eyes seeing this little kitty you had emailed me about. I'm so happy that you're not all alone helping the cats who have such a hard live. It's sometimes difficult to decide what would be the best for an animal with such a disability but she seems to be dealing quite well with it. Some days ago we saw a sweet cat with a broken foot that she can't use anymore. It made me very sad but it was unbelievable how fast she still is. We watched her catching a lizard and she got it within some seconds.
On Saturday a gray and white kitten showed up in the garden. She was quite hungry and of course we feed her now. She can't be much older than our little ones.
Have a lovely day!
xoxo,
Julia

Awww, she is so darling and I'm so glad that you received your answer so clearly! It was the opposite of what I originally suggested (shows what I know) but God is so wonderful in that He works just like that - making His answers known clearly when it's something so important.

I've been wondering how Butters and Lucy are going to do together - I know she's only been here 3 days, but while Butters seems interested, all she has been doing is hiding and hissing at him when he gets too close. I prayed and looked back on the Humane Society site and saw that the other cat that we were really interested in, has since been adopted. Then Jim came into the bedroom after I had gone to sleep last night and told me that Butters and Lucy were under the same bed together (not TOGETHER, but at least sharing the same space), so I feel like I too received some encouragement in that sign.

I'll let you know though after I return home from work this afternoon, because this is the first day that they will be in the house without any supervision!! :)

Hope you have a great new week.

good on you for assisting a small being, and great to find out more about it, bet it sets your mind at ease. I am wondering about how this tiny thing can eliminate.. I know when my doxie went down in the hind end, I had to take her in to be expressed.. x

Hope you can carve out a knook of time for yourself, you busy girl...you sounded tired and overworked in your comment!

Tammy, you touched me deeply. My hubby and I have supported two strays in the past as well. We can't take them in, I am horrendously allergic, but we fed them and were kind to them as best we could be. One, whom we called Kitty Pie, died of feline leukemia. The other, called Urchin, just disappeared after a couple of months. You did a wonderful thing.

Hi Tammy,
Oh, I'm almost crying. I feel so bad for that poor kitty but happy that people care for her and that she is making her own way. I was thinking of the little carts I've seen for animals with paralyzed back legs but it sounds like she is getting along just fine. If only we could save them all...so touching. Thank you for posting about this.

Cheers,
Sharon

That's a hearwarming little story. thanks for sharing it with us. I'm glad you didn't have to make a decision and you know that someone is looking after the little kitty. I'll bet you'll still go and check it on now and again won't you? I probably would too. :-)

She's so sweet but she's a survivor..I admire that in animals and people. Thank you and others for giving her a "hand-up". We all need to realize we need each other and hopefully kindness results.
