Woven Arts

Tonight's presentation at the monthly meeting of the Kuwait Textile Arts Association was on traditional Persian textiles.

Our presenter has quite an extensive collection and many were on display.

Made by nomadic tribes, each type of "carpet" had a specific use.

Some were used as bags for carrying animals or goods; the square ones were used for family meals; some for blankets.

There are no patterns for their designs. All are one of a kind. Colors and materials are natural.

What we consider to be collectible was actually made for a utilitarian purpose. Some pieces might take up to a year to complete as the nomads wondered from place to place. Choice of color would be determined by the season and what was available at that time.

Quite an interesting and informative session. But now it is late and time to hit the hay! Hope everyone is having a terrific Tuesday. Goodnite! Friendship blessings, Tammy

Hi Tammy...Hope you had a restful, well-deserved sleep. Somehow, I think when it's daytime here, it's nighttime there. How interesting. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the textiles. All are so attractive. Have a great Wednesday, filled with all good things. Susan

And we think we have talent. Such amazing pieces and all for necessity. How we take so much for granted. Thanks for the sharing and beautiful picures. Blessings to you sweet one.

#4 and #5 are my favorites.....but then, they all have a unique quality to them. Were you allowed to touch them? I know it'd be hard to resist!
Hope the 'hay' was comfy!

Beautiful! Interesting how things are pieces of art to some, while they are the every day stuff for others. Second picture, item to the right, and the last picture: patterns pretty alike to what you would find here. Only Guatemalan are a blast of bright colors. I should talk about Guatemalan textiles one day. That calls for a trip to the textile market! sounds like a plan! :o)
have a lovely day

How interesting, Tammy. I love the patterns and the colors. It's a thing of beauty when you can have something lovely yet utilitarian. They were much like us way back then. We all want that for ourselves.
Thanks for sharing these with us.

That must have been interesting. My lovely OCD tendencies would go crazy with no pattern :) They look so neat - wish we had touch-a-vison on the blogs as their texture looks amazing.

I never realized there was so much to learn about a carpet. Your meeting looks just fascinating. I would have been interested to learn all the different uses and types of carpets that are out there. I really had no idea there was a specific purpose to certain carpets. They are all so beautiful. I love knowing that someone's hands made them all!!

Love,
Renee
