Morning Fog

When I looked out the window this morning, I wasn't sure if it was foggy or dusty.

And my weather app was no help.

It definitely was not mostly sunny.

There were patches of fog on my drive to the hospital where I volunteer and the closer I got, the thicker the fog was.  I could barely see the Towers from the road so stopped for a quick walk and to snap some photos.

There's the sun, cloaked in fog.

Low tide  and zero visibility looking across the sea.

Tall buildings across the street from the hospital disappeared into murkiness.

It's actually been pretty hazy for nearly a week now because of dust, so was happy to see the sky clear by late afternoon.  Fluffy clouds were floating by in a blue sky and the half moon was visible.

The weekend has begun here.

Tuesday Stitch Group

Today I had the pleasure of meeting with an established group of ladies who meet every Tuesday for stitching, fellowship and food.

We met at the lovely home of one of the members where she has some of her beautiful quilts on display.

She includes lots of handstitching in her quilts which is truly amazing.

I never learned to properly sew but have always loved quilts and am in awe of the work put into the making of them.

One of the ladies was tatting which she made look very easy (though it's definitely not).

And one of the members showed off her bird embroidery that took 3-1/2 months to complete.

The angle at which I took the photo came out way too bright so the picture does not do the piece justice.

It was a really enjoyable few hours of time well spent.

(And now I'm hoping some of their talent and creativity will rub off on me.)

One of my favorite places to BE

I posted on January 3rd about my visit to BE Cafe with my Colorado boy.  It's a plant based restaurant not far from where we live so very convenient to get to and a nice place to chill.

Today I was there with my good friend, Melissa.

She's not vegan and has very fussy ideas about food which I always tease her about.

I thought having her try the lentil and tofu wraps would be playing it safe, but all I can say is, at least she tried.  Everything I've eaten at the cafe tastes pretty darn good to me.  So while I cleaned my plate, she did not.  :)

I really and truly just enjoy the location and ambiance of the place and she was equally impressed with that so has agreed to meet me there again to try something else on the menu.

Last week I chopped half my hair off and am loving it.

We sat by the sea and chatted for a bit, but the weather has been a bit hazy and colder because of a dust storm several days ago.

My son and I wanted to try the kombucha when we were there but they were all out, so today I came home with a bottle of Lavender Pear.

Traditional Textile Exhibition

Both of my boys were here for their winter breaks.  My eldest left two weeks ago and the youngest just left last night.  I'm always in constant worry mode until they reach back to their destinations safe and sound.

It's always difficult when they leave, but rather than wallow in my self-pity, I pushed myself out the door this morning to attend the last day of the Traditional Asian Textiles Exhibition held at Sadu House.

The collection belongs to Professor Jasleen Dhamija who is a pioneer in the research and revival of Indian textile traditions.  She is an author and editor who has traveled extensively in her career and lectured all over the world.  She has lived in many countries; became an advisor to UNESCO on their excellence in textiles projects; and continues to be an advisor to the Crafts Council of India which she helped set up in 1964.  (Biographical information has been taken from the free booklet we received that was prepared by the National Council for Culture, Art and Letters.)

Before I knew there was a booklet, I was taking pictures of the descriptive markers found near each piece so that I could later recall what I had seen.  Hopefully you are able to read them well enough to have an idea of how and where they were made.

The pictures, of course, don't do justice to seeing each piece up close.  I definitely walked away feeling very inspired (much needed since I've not been feeling very crafty lately).
