May Day

You are as welcome as the flowers in May.
Charles Macklin
Goodness gracious!
I can't believe it's the month of May.
I have to admit, ever since my last post, I've been in somewhat of a funk.  I felt so bad about having to surrender that sweet kitty to the shelter and now that the heat has started back up again, morning walks are no longer so pleasant.  The weekend was a mix of haze and dust, plus clouds and just enough drizzle yesterday to make everything splotchy.
The temperature is predicted to get up to 109 F by Thursday.
Not looking forward to that at all.
So I've just felt rather blah.
For now, I'm still getting tomatoes.
And there's even some more blooms
All of the plants require a lot more watering because of the heat.
And soon we will no longer see bees and moths and butterflies.
I've not been very creative lately either, so yesterday I did some crafting with nature.
I've seen some really pretty crochet trims on leaves, so tried my hand at it using a leaf I picked up a couple of weeks ago.
Not an easy thing to do since it's so fragile.
Definitely takes patience and a steady hand.
Wishing you a colorful, creative May!

Okay, here's what I do when it gets so hot out I can't stand it. I turn on the ac, (I go out early in the day and water) and I close the curtains and I light some candles and I pretend it's winter out! I do much more handwork and sewing and cooking and if you get You Tube you would love the podcasts of fellow crocheters! The podcasts are like sitting and having tea/coffee with a good friend. I just love them and they are from all over the world. (I've started listing them on my blog) You would love the Knitting Expat although it is knitting and not crocheting but then...maybe it's time? LOL! Cheer up sweetie and do something different. Paint a wall, start a business, cook something totally different,...just ask me....living alone I have all kinds of tricks to keep myself from going down the rabbit hole! LOL! Love you! hugs.....Sam

Well, sorry to hear of your funk.. it's good to talk about it. The first step is to recognize how you're feeling.. then begin to figure out workarounds. I can't believe that's a word. But I think you need a nice crochet project! How about a cotton or silk shawl? I'm working on my white alpaca shawl and though I much prefer working with color, it will be nice to have a white one. You should google "sunday shawl by little bee". Someone in We Love Lucy II on Facebook showed theirs and I fell instantly in love and bought the pattern. Can't wait to start on it. I think I'm going to use bamboo and cotton yarn in brights. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

It is getting hot here too, not 109, but the humidity is rising and we are getting into the 90's. I went for a walk this morning and melted, I will have to get out a lot earlier if I want to make it without passing out. Remember I am always here if you need to talk, even if it is just by email it is good to get things out. Hang in there my beautiful friend.

109! Holy cow! I can't imagine. We are having a cold and rainy spring in the Upper Midwest. I've been whining about that, but I wouldn't trade our weather for yours. I wilt easily.
I love your May drawing. I hope that the new month means an end to your funk.

I never look forward to the summer heat...and I'm getting worse the older I get. OK, I ADORE that crocheted leaf, my clever friend!!! AND, I always love seeing your drawings - wishing you a little relief from high temps, and more walks to soothe your soul. XOXO

I can't imagine that kind of heat. I'm sorry you've been in a funk. Choosing to be creative can help improve one's mood, I've found. Your May drawing is such a pretty one.

Thankfully we never get that kind of heat here and I long for 80s again as that's warm and lovely for here. Summer is my favorite and unlike most people here, I detest air conditioning, even when it's 90 out. I freeze most of the year, so I really look forward to the warmer days here.

That said, it's been a beautiful rainy weekend here. So many always complain about the rain, I hear it all the time, but I thought it was lovely because it didn't seem cold to me in the 50s all weekend, with no wind, it was quite lovely. Finally, the pneumonia is leaving my lungs and I have basically my old energy back. Besides doing my 4 mile walk this morning, I finished all of my garden planting and now we wait for our vegetables to begin growing for our relatively short growing season of the next several months.

Hope you have a happier week.

I don't like the heat either. When the heat drives me inside, I just find something there to do. Like....scrapbooking or researching my ancestors. But, I know how you love your walks. It's been in the 80's here this week. I do not look forward to the humidity kicking in. Walking in that is pure miserable. Hope you kick the funk, soon.

Dearest Tammy,
LOVE your crocheted poetry... that's how I read it.
Leaf - leave - for leaving sweet kitty behind at the shelter.
Fragile for life's fate to many animals and human beings.
Yes, at times we completely get stuck because of emotions that weigh us down and if that coincides with some climatic conditions it really can hit is hard.
But you will overcome this as we all have faced such painful moments in life.
It is impossible for us to change as much as we would love to see changed...
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

Tammy, you amaze me! I hope that your creative efforts have helped to encourage you, because they certainly encouraged me! I have never before seen a leaf trimmed in crochet and I think yours is beautiful! Also, your Happy May painting cheers me, You mentioned in your comment on my post that you have been trying to draw and paint every day, and I think that is wonderful. When I moved away from my stitching group in northern, California, nine years ago, the ladies each crocheted a square which one of them joined into a blanket. One in the group embroidered a square that says, "set aside some time each day to do your favorite things." Somehow their advice has helped me give myself permission even in difficult times to do what I can do each day to enjoy favorite things. Like you sometimes circumstances drag me into a slump, and maybe we need to rest there a bit too in order to gather strength to rise above the circumstances to be open to the joy of creation. At any rate, know that I am cheering you on and sending you extra hugs. Thanks for posting! xxxxxxx

I'm sorry to hear that you've been "down in the dumps". Life is like that sometimes. It would be nice if it were always sweet and happy, but that's not real life and I want you to know that you have friends here that are willing to listen to you and help in any way that we can. 109 is REALLY hot. I don't think I've felt heat like that since we moved to the northwest. Very, very rarely does it get to 100 and even then there is no humidity so if you can get into the shade it's bearable. When it gets into the 90's I typically spend lots of time floating in the lake! That crocheted leaf is amazing. I've never seen anything like that before. I can only imagine how fragile to work with it was. I hope things are looking a bit brighter for you tonight. You have lots of friends who are here for you. Feel free to email if you would like to chat.
Blessings always,
Betsy

The oncoming heat alone is enough to put you in a funk. And animals can break your soft, sweet heart. I'm hoping that the new month might bring joy with it for you. ((((hugs)))))) Diane

I love your crocheted leaf, Tammy. I can imagine that it takes a lot of patience and careful handeling. You did a great job!
Such heat is awful. It always sucks all the energy out of me and makes me grumpy. I'm sorry that you have such high temperatures already.
I hope you feel better soon.
Hugs,
Julia

I hope it's just the oncoming heat that is making you feel a bit blue. But that won't happen till Thursday, and you have a few days before you turn into a puddle ;) We rarely get as hot as that here, but when it does get extremely hot and muggy, I close the curtains to block that glare and it does make it feel cooler inside. Maybe a visit to Ravelry for some crochet inspiration will help get your mind focused on something new. Or maybe a new book to curl up with. Love that little leaf you embellished. Will you put it in a frame, or hang it on your wall as is? Take care Tammy,
Wendy

Good morning, your photos are so lovely. we are back to cold weather again for now-warmer by mid week, just setting out a few tomatos now. I feel for you and the hot weather-the last few years here we have not had to deal with any 100 degrees in temps-so I am holding my breath for this summer. Your crochet is always amazing-hugs have a good week.

Oh Tammy so sorry you have felt down. All the rain around here makes me that way. Got container pots our and 2 tomatoes. Hope they don't all drown. Like the leaf but I guess it will finally die and your stitches will fall out? It is pretty however. Found an old granny square afghan I am gonna take apart for my tree bombing once I get my graduation afghan finished. Blessings

Such patience to crochet around a leaf. It is beautiful. It is hard for me to understand the high temperatures you have. We are enjoying a beautiful sunny day today but there is a lot of pollen in the air and allergies are giving people trouble. I hope that you move out of your funk soon.

Nice job on the leaf border, Tammy. It will take a little time for you to feel better. That pretty kitty obviously stole a piece of your heart. Send her lots of loving energy. We need more people like you in this world, my friend, as then, all the animals would be treated with love and respect. xo

My heart breaks that you had to be the one to surrender the sweet kitty to the shelter. Knowing it was the right decision doesn't make it any easier. Something like that does effect your mood. I'm sorry. Hugs to you. I hope the mood lifts. The crochet leaf is amazing.
