The News

A year ago we stopped watching tv and cancelled our satellite subscription.  My husband sometimes still turns it on to watch the news, but when he did so today, he almost immediately turned it off.  Who decided that the only news is bad news?  When you Google the definition of news, the first thing that pops up is:
news
njuːz/
noun
  1. 1.
newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events.
"I've got some good news for you"

Where is all that good news?

Even when not in the headlines, there are sad and sometimes very bad events that we become aware of  in our daily lives.  We feel helpless knowing that we can only offer hugs and prayers.

Despite a heel spur that is still very painful, I headed out for a walk today.  I just really felt the need to commune with nature and come to terms with all the bad news of the day.

The gorgeous weather certainly helped to lift my spirits.
May your day be filled with good news and happy things.

I am often saddened by the news I hear on TV.. but I like to be up on current events so I watch the evening news most days. Right now we're watching a show about men that build log houses.. it's amazing what they do. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I watch t.v in the evening but I don't ever watch the news. I stopped about 9 or 10 years ago. Like you I decided that I would choose what was noteworthy in my world and what I thought was important to keep up with for me. I find out about the weather from my phone or clients might come in and say "hey did you hear about so and so" and if it sounds like something I should know about I might investigate further. Usually it falls flat and was not worth my time. I would rather come from a world that is based on love and compassion and the generosity of spirit. So that is where I focus my energy. Which is precisely why I choose to visit here. :-D

I know exactly how you feel. If I could avoid it, I would....just seems impossible. Think the continual barage of political discourse bothers me more then the actual news. The scary part is that I just see it getting worse. I'd go out for a walk, too, but woke up with a terrible cold and snow outside.....I need sunshine!!!! Jan

We have also been thinking of giving up our cable television. We have only had it for about 4 years so it wouldn't have a huge effect on our live anyway. I would love to see a channel that just showed the good things that are happening around the world. Your walk looked beautiful. The flowers are so brilliantly colored. We still have mostly browns and just tinges of green starting to show. Spring IS coming though.
Blessings,
Betsy

I stopped watching the news many years ago for the same reason, seems like only bad news was news worthy and its still that way today. I would much rather go on the internet and choose what I want to read about. On another note, your walk looks amazing. We are still getting snow and are not anywhere near the blooming flower mark so its nice to see the burst of colors here :)

The television news really gets me down, and since we live in Chicago, even the local news is quite upsetting most days. I like to read the news online at Yahoo. I see a nice mix of good, bad, funny and touching. But nothing beats a nice walk outdoors admiring nature's beauty!

XO,
Jane

It is quiet depressing, but maybe we should "look for" the news that didn't make the news and start broadcasting good news out there... Like ... We had such a beautiful sunny day here in Oregon on Saturday. It was just gorgeous....:) I do understand though ... All this negativity. Where do they want to get?
Thanks so much for your visit and kind comment. Hope you have a wonderful week :)

Dearest Tammy,
The good news is seldom being broadcasted nowadays. Always bad and bizarre things make the headlines. At times it is good to turn everything off and enjoy nature and inhale the pure beauty of the little treasures around us...
Hugs,
Mariette

Such beautiful flowers! It always helps me to go on a walk through nature. I'm glad it lifted your spirits. I know more and more people lately who have stopped watching tv altogether. We really have cut back on our tv and only watch a handful of shows.

I agree and I rarely watch or look up news. Though, we love our cable subscription and there are a few shows I enjoy following and they provide a fun stress relief.
Pretty, cheery photos. : ) Have a nice week,
Linda

Hi, Tammy - I was a news junkie for so long, until I realized the same thing...slow, happy news days were hell for the reporters, sadly. I find I turn the tv on less and less these days (but DO stay up to date with happenings). Your photos and walk lifted MY spirits...surgery on Friday will keep me down for awhile. Hope your upcoming week is wonderful and filled with good news! XOXO

There's so much sadness and tragedy in the world. News shows have turned into so much doom and gloom.
Walking in such a beautiful place is a great way to come to acceptance and peace. I took a long walk by the shore this morning. Things get sorted out mentally when out in nature, I find.

I agree with you about the news. We don't watch much TV either, we don't have cable. We watch PBS and Create TV, another public station, and that's it. I'm gld you were able to have a walk, I had a good one yesterday and it made all the difference to my mood and mental state.

I never watch the news either. Who needs to be bombarded by all that doom and gloom?
