The Last Moon of Winter

My husband told me today that there was an earthquake in Los Angeles this morning and one in Chile yesterday.  That made me think that it is probably about time for a full moon, and sure enough, there it is.  March's Full Worm Moon that arrived last night.  It is believed that the full moon does affect our weather.
Christian settlers also called this the Lenten Moon and considered it the last moon of winter.
We've certainly had some back and forth weather over the past week.  It all started with the major dust storm that swept through last Wednesday just at the end of the school day.  Since then we've had gloom and gray, wind and rain, big puffy clouds and blue, blue skies.
The birds are much more active when the weather is changing.  This one caught my attention because of it's beautiful sing-song.  I think it is a mynah which is a member of the starling family.
I got quite a nice surprise yesterday when this green plant I bought months ago all of a sudden had these pretty little blooms.  I didn't know it was supposed to do that.
Not sure what it is but the bees and the butterflies are loving it.
And there's Jingles.  She can't wait for us to get home every day so she can run outside.  Tonight she came darting back in with something in tow.  I couldn't figure out what it was but since she was looking up, I figured it had to be something that could fly.  Sure enough, I just found a huge moth in the bathroom.  It's now been released back into the world.

Hope all is well where you are and that you are having a wonderful day!

I never thought about the moon being connected to earthquakes. That's really interesting. Our weather has been a bit back and forth this week too. I'll be happy when spring settle in for "real". :-)
Blessings,
Betsy

Weather has been a bit topsy turvy here, too. Your plant looks like a type of pelargonium, aka geranium. What a lovely surprise.

Hi Tammy....It's been a pretty good day here. Glad I don't live in California because earthquakes would scare the bazookers out of me. Take care. By the way, Jingles is a very photogenic kitty. Soooo pretty. Susan

I love your moon photo.. it looks like a melon with a flower "button" on the bottom.. doesn't it? I think what you got is a scented geranium.. take a leaf and crush it and see what happens. That's why the butterflies love it! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What a beautiful moon picture Tammy, I agree with Lorrie as your plant does look like a geranium to me, they're faithful plants which bloom year after year very reliably and they root very easily from cuttings when you want to share the plants with friends.

Love the moon information and Jingles is always adorable.
Hopefully the last moon of winter weather, but we still have very cold mornings here for a while and it's not unheard of to have snow here through April, though unusual.

that is definitely a geranium Tammy, maybe even a scented one. Squeeze one of the leaves and see if it smells like something... I've had them smell of, curry, roses, apples, licorice and various herbs and spices.
We got 6/8 " of snow overnight, so it will be a while before I get to smell anything!!! :)

I do love every beautiful full moon...however I was not able to sleep at all last night. I believe animals sense a lot more than we do. My kitty always acted very bizarre just before an earthquake when I lived in Southern California and we certainly had our share of earthquakes. Jingles is doing what comes naturally. I vote Geranium also. There are so many different varieties. Joy and Bliss Dear...

Jingles looks so darn cute sitting there waiting for her peeps to get home. LOL! Bugs don't stand a chance in our house. Banjo hunts them down immediately. Haha.
Have a good week Tammy!

We had a wind storm here in AZ as well this week, so many fields of cotton here that are bare at the moment.
Hoping you have a very good week..Claire arrives tomorrow...so excited to see all the three of them.

I'll have to pay attention to that (the earthquakes and the full moon) that's very interesting. I tried to get a shot of the moon last night but it was so foggy that the moon was just fuzzy. Yours is beautiful. And so is that bird. Of course Jingles just makes a beautiful picture everytime you photograph her. Diane

Dearest Tammy,
You got quite a lovely Pelargonium or scented geranium. Now try to figure out what scent it is... crushing its leaves and sniffing it out. Maybe this link will help you: http://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com/pelargoniums.htm
Lovely photos and yes the full moon has an influence on water levels etc. Nature is fascinating and uncontrollable too.
Hugs,
Mariette

PS I got great help from a dear friend, a Rotarian who is a professional. I had lost it... but he fixed my PC in no time, something with the browser and it might have picked up something in a blog. Some people use tricky things on there, or advertising...
My mega headache because of all that trouble for 24 hours lasted till noon, no medication allowed to take due to my chronic kidney disease but I'm fine!
Hugs,
Mariette

Hello Tammy, Yes I do believe a full moon does effect our weather around the world along with global warming.. I think your dust storms would be a bit scary.. I have never seen one but here in Michigan we've had all kinds of extremely weather this year. A Winter Never to forget. Lovely flower and the color is a glorious pink. Love it. Have a wonderful week. Hugs Judy

We've all heard about the quake in LA but mostly (and sadly) due to this thing going viral: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/weird-news/news-anchor-chris-schauble-freaks-out-over-minor-earthquake-in-los-angeles-9197772.html

I love the moon picture Tammy.

I loved the scented geraniums like yours Tammy - usually plant a couple each side of our front steps and give the leaves squeeze when I walk by on Summer days…….hopefully we get some this year, so tired of the wet cold.

Jingles is so sweet.
