Opening Meeting

The Kuwait Textile Arts Association kicked off its season last night with a presentation by the daughter of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kuwait.
She shared information about the dress, customs and rituals of her country.

The traditional dance at the end was my favorite part of the evening.
(I was trying to be discreet, so did not get the best of photos with my iPhone.)
Since my husband has a business in Colombo, we go there often.
Sri Lanka is a country that has much to offer its visitors.

Colombo
Where old meets new
 Pinnawala
Home of the Elephant Orphanage
Nuwara Eliya
Tea plantations
Bentota
Beautiful beach
Dambulla
Heritance Kandalama and Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Blessings to you all,

How fascinating and beautiful! I love to learn about other people and their culture and customs. I think the more we try and understand others the more it promotes peace and acceptance. What beautiful costumes and the country is gorgeous. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us and I loved the elephant orphanage.

You live in such an exotic part of the world, with destinations like Sri Lanka close by (relatively). Fascinating post.

You live in a different world that I can't even imagine. Love the pictures and places. The elephant orphanage is fascinating.

Like someone else mentioned, you live in an entirely different world. I can't imagine it either. But it looks lovely.

Dearest Tammy,
Wish a lot more women could be present during such a presentation by authentic citizens from the country they talk about. Showing such a dance is really the final touch!
You do love that culture and have even more reasons for doing so. So great for sharing your love here.
Hugs,
Mariette

Lovely ladies and the countryside looks so lush. You are fortunate that you can travel to exotic places with your husband. Lately when my husband has traveled for work, he ends up in someplace like North Dakota. Sigh.

What a lovely evening you had.

Your photos of Colombo are great Tammy.
My fave is the elephants - they are such special animals, I will NEVER understand how people can shoot them.

The green flags with the old moorish inspired building with minarets is sooo beautiful too.

What an interesting life you have - I know you are far from home but you make the most of every minute and we are lucky that you share it with us.
Hugs
Shane

I enjoyed your photos very much. The tea farm in Sri Lanka looks a lot like the one I visited in Kenya. I'm wondering now if tea always needs to be grown on hillsides.

Hi Tammy

The Pics are superb. Specially Bentota and Dambulla. Oh! how could I forget the Tea plantations. Reminds me of Coorg, a place in my home town which is known for tea and coffee planations. How I wished, I could stay there a bit longer !

Thanks for sharing. Great to learn about different cultures.

Have a nice day

Nice to see more photos from your trip to SriLanka. And from the opening.

The women are wearing so beautiful dresses. I´d love to have one myself while painting and cooking here at home. We have planned that when I loose weight we will buy a saree or lenga or something similar that I can wear.

I love the Oriental style and will buy a moroccan or palestinian kaftan one day too. :)
I just love them. They make me feel feminine.

Have a nice end of the week!
Blessings!

Hello Dear Tammy...Sounds like you had a great time. I would have loved the dancing, too. And it was very kind and thoughtful of you to be discreet. Susan
