Multitasking Doesn't Work

The weather has matched my mood the past two days.
Yesterday morning it took us an hour and a half to get to school.
It's normally a 20-30 minute drive but an accident on the highway backed up all the roadways.
This morning, we were the accident.
I could see that the lady behind me was looking way too comfortable behind the wheel.
Coffee cup in one hand, iPhone in the other.
She should have been home on her couch.
Traffic was at a standstill, but next thing I know, she hits the gas and slams me
right into the car in front.
I shouldn't let it bother me.
A co-worker had to leave with his family last Wednesday night to South Africa because his father was killed in a car accident.
But I'm really tired of people thinking they can multitask in their car.
Especially when they are taking their own children to school.

This evening I gathered my supplies together.
 And crocheted the night away.
It takes about 2 hours to make a bunny.
But so worth it and just what I needed.

Blessings to all,

Oh no, that's terrible, Tammy and I hope you and your boys are fine. I'm totally with you on the phones behind the wheel and I take it even that much further - I wish people would just stay off these devices in general! I think it's become ridiculous where people think they have to be on their phones all the time - in the car, driving (NO!!!), in stores, in restaurants, etc. I wonder if any of them find it amazing that there are people like me in the world who get along just great without such a device! :O

Okay, stepping down off the soap box, to say - I LOVE the bunny you crocheted. You're so talented.

Hope everything improves for you this week,
Linda

Oh goodness - I hope you're ok. I see drivers like that a lot and it really does irritate me. That's about the time I wish I had a train horn so I can wake these people up. :)

Hello Tammy, So sorry that you were a victim of another drivers thoughtlessness. I am sure the accident has shaken you but I do hope you were not injured. Crocheting soothes the soul, me think. Hugs Judy

I'm sorry to hear you were involved in this accident Tammy! I hope you are feeling ok. It's so scary when you see someone texting on the road or doing anything else but driving. It's illegal here, but I don't know how many people they actually catch and cite for it. Your crocheted bunny is SO cute! Take care...

Hi Tammy,

So sorry that this accident happened to you and hope you are feeling ok.
We were rear ended a while back by a girl who was on her cell phone and it was not nice - I had whiplash which was painful.
Here cellphones are banned while driving a car, but it is still amazing how many people disregard this rule.
Your little bunny is cute and must be a way of relaxing, crocheting.

Hope the week improves for you
hugs
Carolyn

So sorry you were in an accident through no fault of your own. Hopefully none of you were injured, but shaken I'm sure. How did the car fare? Are you without wheels now?

Yes the phones have become a problem everywhere and should definitely not be used in cars. I do have BlueTooth and can use my phone handsfree in the car, however I rarely talk while driving - always try to pull over and stop somewhere before answering, or to make an outgoing call. Quite honestly I'm not a phone person at all - I never indulge in long calls to pass the time - I never have any time!

Take care dear - glad your sweet bunny helped you stay calm and gave your B/P time to get back to normal after the upset. Hope the boys are OK if they were with you.

Hugs - Mary

Oh my goodness.. I guess it's lucky that you were all stopped so it wasn't a high speed crash. How badly damaged was your car? No whiplash? Very scary! Glad you got to chill out with a bunny making session. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Good grief that sounds awful. It always amazes me when you see people acting irresponsibly when they have children in their car - they seem completely oblivious as to what could happen. But your bunny is beautiful - just the ticket to perk you up! Take care x Jane

Sorry to hear about the accident. I know what you mean. I was in a car accident (I was the passenger) when I was 18 and went thru the windshield face first. Had plastic surgery twice and it took quite awhile to get over all my injuried. It was long time ago, but it happened because someone was 'multi tasking' behind the wheel. Everyone should focus on the task at hand...which is driving. Glad you are okay Tammy. But it can be scarey for you and your children.

When will dtrivers learn now is not only about them?
Hope you are all okay.
Cute bunny - I really need to make this pattern.
Enjoy today.

Hi Tammy - I don't mean to be bossy - but you need to go get checked out - even if you feel ok. Being rear-ended can really do a number on your neck. And sometimes you won't feel it for days afterward. I hope the other driver was cited for her distracted driving. Here, it's illegal to be on the phone while driving.

I hope you're ok!!!!!

Tammy I hope you are ok after that lady rear ended you; the cute bunny looks like good therapy. The yard colors are soft and pretty.

how utterly irresponsible of the other driver...hope she loses her license...even for a little while...and keep an eye on your neck and back...being hit like that can cause problems...what a thing to happen!!!

This is terrible, Tammy...I hope all of you are alright. I won't even answer my phone when I'm driving. When I am at a stop, I look around and I'm amazed at all the drivers on their phones...they must just be bored. How necessary is it to be on the phone all the time?

Your bunny is darling. I hope making him calmed your nerves.

XO,
Jane

Dearest Tammy,
So sad to read about your co-worker's Father that got killed in a car accident. We don't want to know how many of those deadly traffic accidents are caused because of multitasking! It is so annoying to see that many drivers on the phone... One cannot concentrate on the road while doing that!
Not only a danger for themselves but often they cause lots of grief for innocent people around them.
Hope you're fine and sure, crocheting or any hand craft is the best therapy.
Hugs to you,
Mariette

I'm sorry to hear about your co-workers family. I'll keep them all in my prayers. So much senseless tragedy in this world we live in.

I'm always baffled when I see people doing multiple things when they're supposed to be driving. My prayers will also be with you and that you will suffer no ill effects from the crash.
Blessings,
Betsy

Oh my gosh- that could have been so tragic-- I'm glad you are unharmed. I hope you told the police what all she was doing. She should be fined for that. It's just so wrong.

I think you did the right thing to come home and knit that adorable bunny. Knitting is the cute for a bad day-/

sorry to hear about your bad luck, and the accident. Over here people do the same with the same results, I almost hate driving these days because people are so inconsiderate! LOVE the bunny!

Oh gosh, Tammy. I am so very sorry to hear of the fender bender. That happened to me in January but all is well and my car is all fixed....looking beautiful. I had nothing to do with the accident except my car was hit. The other insurance companies paid everything, though.

The place that made my car all beautiful again even cleaned it, vaccumned, washed, waxed and BUFFED it. It looked like a new car when I picker it up.

So sometimes good things can come from the bad.

Your bunny? ADORABLE! Susan

Thank God you're alright! I don't even listen to the radio when I drive. I don't own a cell phone but when I used to be on call for work I would pull over to answer the call if I was driving and that was in the day before everyone had one! It just stands to reason but it seems common sense has become a rare commodity these days. Yes, the bunny is a healing balm and darn cute too!

Oh my gosh, Tammy - I am horrified! Are you OK? How about your car? That is one of my biggest pet peeves - people that are texting on their phones as they are driving! I could go on and on about this, grrr! I just hope you are not injured. Hugs to you.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been in an accident, dear Tammy. Hopefully you and your boys didn't get shaken up too heavily. This kind of driving behavior drives me crazy too. I always tell hubby, I wish the people here were born with a cell phone glued to one of their ears. So they would have at least their hands free to hold the steering wheel.
The bunny is very cute and I'm glad you could relax a bit, crocheting it.
Hugs,
Julia

Im sorry Tammie. I hope you are ok. Still not ok like u said for people to do so many things while driving. I think they should ban the use of cell phones at all while driving. Although I do it... I use my phone wile traveling, but I don't think it's safe.
I'm,so glad you are home and ok.
The bunny is adorable :)

First, I'm glad you weren't hurt.
Second, did the woman behind you get a HUGE ticket? It WAS her fault!!
Third, can the planet as a whole BAN the use of phones while driving please? It's crazy! You always know when somebody is on the phone....they are so erratic! Speed up, slow down, drift into other lanes! It's just crazy and dangerous! On my 'soapbox' but I'm tired of it, too!
Sometimes it's safer to stay inside and crochet, huh?

Stay safe my friend!

Oh Tammy, so glad you are ok..it is such a problem here in AZ, back in BC we have strong Distraction laws while driving..we see it here on the freeway, young moms with kids in the back texting while going 75 mph..how does that make sense....glad you were able to crochet that sweet rabbit!

So sorry about the accident. I agree with you!!! People need to pay attention to their driving while they are driving, and leave all that other stuff for another time. NONE of that other stuff is important in the grand scheme of things anyway and you risk injuring or killing someone... just plain stupid! Glad you are OK.

GardenOfDaisies said...

PS- Your bunny is adorable! And I'm sure working on him helped to lower your blood pressure.

Oh no! I just read about your accident, pretty scary, thank goodness you are all okay. It took me an hour and a half to get home last night, twice my normal drive and it was because of an accident but thankfully I wasn't involved. Glad you are safe.

Dearest Tammy
I'm so glad to read you and the boys weren't hurt, but from experience I know you will all be feeling quite shaken up.

What ever are we going to do about stupid people who use cell phones while they are driving a car - it's MADNESS and really makes me ANGRY.
Quite honestly they should automatically lose their drivers licence for a good length of time, so they are THEMSELVES inconvenienced as a result of their
careless attitude of fellow travellers.

I could go on and on but it doesn't help the situation and probably is sending my blood pressure up!!!

Take care, I'm so happy you are all safe.
Sending lots of hugs your way.
Shane ♥

I'm glad you are okay, Tammy. How unnerving --- and especially frustrating when you were minding your own driving quite well! Hopefully the nerves have settled down and you're feeling a lot better. The repetition of crochet really can help in this regard --- as it appears you have aptly discovered. :D

Man that blows!! I am glad you are okay. It is really a dangerous thing to be distracted while driving. We need to take care and be a bit more mindful and courteous on the road. It is nice to have a hobby that puts us back in a good head space. Hugs for better days!!

Texting while driving is SO dangerous and it has taken lives. Here in Queensland, it's illegal to have a mobile/cell phone in your hand while driving and you will be booked if caught. Some people still do it though...if only they understood the very real dangers. I'm so glad nobody was hurt and I hope the damage repairs aren't going to be too expensive. I do hope the lady learned an important lesson. Was there much damage to the car in front of you?

Creative ventures do tend to help us relax and unwind all the tensions so I'm glad you had crochet to turn to, Tammy. xx

I'm glad to hear no one was hurt in the car accident. I totally know the feeling as the very same thing happened to me. I got whiplash though, which is ironic because I never believed it when people told me they had it--- oops lol my bad. Again, I am glad no one got hurt :-)
big hugs,
Cheryl
