The Week That Was

My first week back at school sped by so fast. Hard to believe that the weekend has arrived.  And even harder to believe that tomorrow is the last day of the month.

Yesterday, one of my lovely co-workers gifted me with fresh dates from her garden.  They are crisp and yummy ... so different from ripened dates.
But the real treat was receiving all these wonderful magazines from a friend who just returned from the States.  Since I've not been crafty or creative at all this past week, I know there will be lots of inspiration to be found within these pages.
We've had such high humidity the past several days that walking outside has been like walking into a sauna.
I have emailed friends and family who are in Louisiana and Mississippi to find out how they are faring through Hurricane Isaac.  Val at Yarni Gras lives in Slidell which is where I was before coming to Kuwait.  She posted yesterday at 4 am about the storm and I hope she will be able to post another update soon.

I hope all is well where you are.

Hooray for one week down! :) I've never even had dates I don't think.

Hurricane Isaac is heading our way - in Illinois, believe it or not. It's happened before but already all sorts of things are being cancelled for the 3-day holiday weekend, due to the fact that 10+ inches of rain are due to fall here and that means lots of flooding, since drought-ridden ground doesn't exactly soak everything up - instead, it runs off and floods roadways, etc. Looks to be an interesting weekend... certainly not what I had hoped for, but we'll make the best of it.

Take care,
Linda

I hope your friends and family are okay. We were so lucky, barley any rain or wind, so sad for others who are being hit hard by the storm. Glad your week went well, looks like your creativity is about to go wild with all that inspiration.
Happy Weekend,
meredith

Oh, these remind me of my childhood. They were everywhere back in Portugal, where I grew up. I love them and you can`t find them readily here.

Hope your friends are okay.

I've never had fresh dates before, only the dried type. You'll find lots of creative ideas in those magazines for sure...enjoy! OH, how I hate high humidity...that's what I dread about our summers the most especially being that we don't have air-con. :(

Have a lovely weekend ~ xo

Dearest Tammy,

WOW, those fresh dates would be a TREAT; never had them fresh! Savor them, one by one.
So you had your first week of work and already SANTA CLAUS! I know too well how such arrival of precious magazines feels like.
Be happy and enjoy browsing them. You will get lots of ideas and fill your time easily.
Hugs to you,
Mariette

Hi Tammy,

Just catching up with you. I've never heard of sinus cancer; it sounds especially horrible. Yes, we should all be more aware of what we have - me included.

I have that same cabbage salad recipe - it's delicious!

Every time I see pretty crochet patterns, I think of you. Have you seen this blog? You'll love it.

You are so sweet to visit people's blogs and comment back! Good luck if you ever try bread making! I can do pizza crust fine with yeast, but it took several attempts. Just want you to know your post about gifts and the books helped with how I looked at my day yesterday and I decided to credit you in my new post! Thanks Tammy :-)

Oh, you got come great magazines! They are going to give you hours of reading inspiration! Lucky you.

Isn't it amazing that Isaac hit 7 yrs after Katrina? That is too weird. Hope your friends are ok. I've actually driven through there!!

They say if time flies, you're having a good time. Hope that's the case for you last week!

Have a great weekend. Guess what we're doing?

Dearest Tammy, thanks god that Isaac wasn't as bad as Katrina... but it's so hard that hurricanes and dust and sun get worse from year to year.
I think I've never tried fresh dates, of course they must be yummmmmmiiiiieee! I wish you a wonderful time with all the pretty magazines!!! Lots of hugs, my dear, Traude

We were blessed this time as Isaac decided not to pay NC a visit! I'm so scared of hurricanes after all the damage we had in Fran years back!

Tammy,
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers during Isaac. Even though we are out of the actual storm, we are still feeling the effects. Yesterday a dam broke flooding Pearl River LA off Hwy 90.....crazy. On a good note, I did crochet some things...helped keep me sane through it all.

Oh, some wonderful magazines there! You are fortunate to have such a thoughtful friend! I subscribe to Mary Jane's Farm --- I love that magazine! I haven't read the others. I'll have to look on the magazine stand for them.

I'm catching up on your blog but going backwards. I hope your friend was okay in Louisiana. we got the remnants of Isaac which I was grateful for as we've needed rain all Summer and now the fire danger is gone. It brought lots of humidity with it though and there was a week of 90's and heat of 106-110 with the humidity...I could barely stand to go get the mail. Those poor people down there without power in that heat. We just got the rain and some wind but nothing damaging.
You made it through your first week back! Hurray! The dates are lovely...I guess I've never seen them fresh like that. what do they taste like fresh? Take care of yourself and get your rest!

I've never tried fresh dates before, they look so different from the dried dates I buy from the shops. What a lovely collection of magazines to enjoy and be inspired by. x
