Healthy Snacking

Do you snack? I do. A lot! This is a sampling of what I take to school every day.

Susan at Writing Straight from the Heart has commented many times on how I bake and eat sweets and yet keep my weight under control.

I do love my treats -- but they gotta be really, really good for me to dig in or it's just not worth it.

One of the best things about Sri Lanka is that fresh fruit is readily available everywhere you go.

The morning we left for the airport to head home, the chef at The Lavender House fixed us packets of fresh fruit for the road.

What a treat that was!

6 years ago, I lost about 30 pounds and felt so much better for having done so. I have been determined ever since to keep that weight off. I made a conscious decision to totally change my diet since heart disease runs in my family. My dad had bypass surgery when he was 45 years old. I just turned 45 on February 26th. All of his brothers and sisters had heart disease except one. Last year, I had a complete checkup and all my numbers were normal. I want to keep it that way.

Wishing you health and happiness! Have a terrific Thursday! Friendship blessings, Tammy

Oh Tammy. You are so cute. Thanks for mentioning my blog! Your treats for school definitely look VERY healthy. You look fabulous. That's why I often mention your baking. You look about 25,instead of 45! No kidding. Anyway, hope you have a really great day today! Take care, and thanks, again! :) Susan

Good for you, Tammy! It feels so much better...! I lost 55 pounds starting about 2 1/2 years ago, and have been able to keep it off for a year now...makes me happy! (High blood pressure problem in my family--had a big wake-up call!)

Keep it up, my friend...and I'll be doing the same...

Wishing you a wonderful day!

Great inspiration.

I never snack during the day. But sometimes in the evening, I'll have a snack that is never healthy like what you eat. I just am not a big fan of most fruit - I never have been and unfortunately I never crave it.

But I made a point of making sure Sarah had fruit or vegetables every night for snacks and she loves all of those things. Though even still, we're facing a scary thing right now, as they are surgically removing one of her lymph nodes in her neck on Monday to test for Hodgkins Lymphoma - basically to rule it out as they haven't been able to determine through a series of other tests, what is causing the lymph nodes in her neck to enlarge and remain enlarged for many months. The Specialist said that it could also be attributed to her lifelong food allergies and severe dermatitis, but that they won't be able to rule out cancer until they take a full one out and do the biopsy.

So, that's all that I'm concerned about right now. Everything else isn't important.

Wise and healthy change Tammy! Good for you, and an example to your kids as well. I like to snack too, which I do in the mornings mainly; not so much in the afternoons. Water, fruit (which fortunately is available always, and more so during summertime!), and soy crackers are my favorite. That's not what I snacked three years ago, but on an April back then I decided to change. I started working out, eating right, and life has been energized, healthier, happier, and with fewer pounds ;o)...why would I want to change back?!
High five on similar eating habits!
have a lovely day!

That is wonderful that you've been able to maintain. That is an area I really struggle with. Hoping to work it out with the South Beach diet and get back on track. Your snacks looks good and healthy. Your trip to Sri Lanka sounds like it was a lot of fun. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier. Hope you have a great evening.

i snake like you do. super healthy eater, here. my hubby stays home and cooks the 'nourishing traditions' way. the book i by sally fallon. you may have heard of it. anyhoo, i'm 44 and have kept my weight at a healthy place ever since we adopted this diet over 8 years ago. my mom had triple bypass and my sis and i kind of freaked out about it and made the change. we are both now at a healthy weight and no indication of heart disease.
eat healthy now, or pay later, right?

Your food that goes to school with you looks wonderful. I have said this before, and will say it again - you and I can sit down and eat together any time. You know you are a much better snacker than I am. I have good intentions, but don't stop to think about having a snack often enough.
Of the three of us that worked out together 6 years ago, you have done the best at keeping it off. I think the key is that you really changed your attitude about food. I wish you and Melissa were here to exercise with. I would have both of you running Terry Fox with me this weekend!! HA!
Nice post today, my friend!!

Love,
Renee
