Yellow Monday

"In almost every culture yellow represents sunshine, happiness, and warmth."

The Instagram account @colorsoftheweek assigns a color to each day of the week for posting.  I find #orangewednesday to be the hardest, but #yellowmonday is a breeze.

  Yellow on my morning walk.
At The Secret Garden this afternoon.
And on my balcony at the end of the day.
Wishing everyone a great new week!

Puppy Love and a Little Dove

We had some wild weather over the weekend, so with clear skies today, I headed out for a morning walk.  My intent always is to nourish body and soul, seek beauty in my surroundings and commune with nature.
And there was some of that along the way.
Because if you're looking, it's there to find.
But there's also things I don't want to really see.
Like the further destruction of the walking path closest to our home, along with the removal of even more trees, because of road expansion.
Garbage everywhere because people can't seem to bother themselves to dispose of it properly.
And even though puppies are super cute and precious, I certainly don't like to see them abandoned and alone.
I found these two sweeties next to a trashcan by a park, and after talking with several homeowners near there who didn't know who they belonged to, I carried them home with me.
 I mean, seriously.
Could you just walk away from these innocent babies?
While they slept on the balcony, I posted about them on Instagram and am so grateful that a very sweet follower, whom I've never met (til now), volunteered to foster until homes can be found.
She came and picked them up with plans to bathe them and then get them vaccinated tomorrow.
My animal whisperer vibes must have been on high frequency today because as I came back upstairs after handing the puppies over, I found this little dove in our stairwell desperately trying to find its way out.  It kept flying into a sealed window over and over and couldn't be shooed downstairs so I had to literally capture it, take it downstairs and release it.

All I could do was laugh.  Definitely not at all what I had planned when I walked out my door this morning.

Have a blessed day!

Five on Friday at F.A.S.T.

The lovely Amy at Love Made My Home has handed the reigns of Five on Friday over to Carly and Tricky of  F.A.S.T. blog (Family Attempting to Survive the Times).  I've not participated in awhile so figured this was a good time to get back on track with posting.
Yesterday we had lots of wind and dust, but this morning we had wonderful rain showers that washed all the grime away.  In fact, as I'm typing this, the rains have started again.
The plants are always happy to get a free shower.
After the rains, the birds were very active and I was privileged to see a rare sighting in our residential area.
I rushed to grab my good camera and this was the only shot I was able to get before it flew away.  The Hoopoe, known as a Hud-Hud in Arabic, usually prefers to stay on the ground so to spot him in the mulberry tree right in the front yard was quite a nice surprise.
Mulberries are a favorite snack for the sweet little bulbuls.
Birds and plants on a rainy day inspired a little stitching, perfect for this tiny frame that I've had sitting around for many, many years.  Pattern can be found at Makers Society.

Happy Friday!

Beckon the Lovely

I tend to believe whatever you decide to look for you will find, whatever you beckon will eventually beckon you.
(Amy Krouse Rosenthal)

This morning I read of the death of Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
She was an author, filmmaker and public speaker who died yesterday from ovarian cancer at the age of 51.
Her passing immediately hit home with me since I turned 51 last month.
At the age of 40, she began calculating how many days she had left until she turned 80.

How many more times, then, do I get to look at a tree?” she asked. “Let’s just say it’s 12,395. Absolutely, that’s a lot, but it’s not infinite, and I’m thinking anything less than infinite is too small a number and not satisfactory. At the very least, I want to look at trees a million more times. Is that too much to ask?
Her favorite line from literature is spoken in  “Our Town,” by the character, Emily, as she bids the world goodbye:

“Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?”
A believer in the magic of numbers, she started The Beckoning of Lovely Project on  8/08/08 at 8:08 p.m. and continued it annually for the next few years (9/09/09; 10/10/10; 11/11/11).
You can find them all on her website here.
I found them all to be so inspiring.
Make the Most of Your Time Here
is a message that she shared many times in her TedXTalks and videos.
Her last article for the New York Times was published March 3rd entitled,
Right up to the end, she remained passionate, humorous and kind.
And she believed in magic.
May she rest in peace.

Two Weeks Ago Today

February 26th,
1966
a baby girl was born.
Another birthday celebrated in Sri Lanka.
The day started with coffee and a lovely view.
Then a walk around Beira Lake in the center of Colombo.
Standing Buddha with hands facing forward represents “Stopping the Ocean” or “Causing the Waters to Subside”.
On our walk around the lake, we saw an Indian palm squirrel,
 a crow,
a water monitor lizard,
a duck
a little egret,
and a muscovy duck.
We also saw pelicans on the way back to the hotel.
There's always so much to see and experience while in Colombo.

And I'm always happy to celebrate my birthday there with our adopted family.
Happy Sunday!
