Oohing and Aahing

A few days ago, my husband had a Japanese business associate who is based in Dubai visit Kuwait for the first time.  Before he brought him to our house, he warned him that it has been described by many as resembling a museum.
I wish you could have seen his face when I opened the door and he stopped inside.  It's always funny to see the reactions of people who visit for the first time.
He spent a lot of time oohing and aahing over everything, then
we headed to The Peacock Chinese Restaurant located at the SAS Hotel for lunch, as he said Chinese food is his favorite.
And he was not disappointed.
Complementary jasmine green tea and a plate of chocolates come with every meal.
Next, we walked around the grounds of the hotel where the Al Hashemi II is located.
It is the largest dhow ever built and one of the largest wooden ships in the world.
Which is what landed it a spot in the 2002 Guinness Book of World Records.
Once again our visitor was oohing and aahing.
It's nice when someone appreciates and is impressed with what they see around them.
It also allows us to be tourists again in our own surroundings.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.
Marcel Proust

Have a fabulous Friday!

Hi Tammy... WOW! I would have been stunned by your house's furnishing and decorations too :) So many things are there! Lovely!
I am glad that your guest liked everything and you also had a great time revisiting old places.

I like the Proust quote. As I recall he had to use his senses and imagination wisely during his periods of illness and being in bed. I shall look at your blog post and take in everything very slowly. It's rich in detail not only in you home, but in your local surroundings outside. It was good that you can show visitors around and that they appreciate all that they see and experience.

I love the colors and decor of your home Tammy - so vibrant - and all the wall art is beautifully displayed.
I don't think you will ever become a minimalist (I'm trying more to head that way because dusting, cleaning and such becomes such a chore as one ages!), so I hope to have more wall space some day if you ever run out of places for your treasures, haha!

I agree. When I lived in CO, people often came all the way from New England - thousands of miles - to visit and I always took them to lots of places.
(Now I live in MA and almost no one visits, even though my family lives just over hour away by car. Not "exotic" enough, maybe?)

I've only seen snippets of your home before. Wow! I'm oohing and ahhing too! I love all the interesting pieces you have sharing your space. The ship is amazing too. Looks like you showed your friend a grand time. I like your quote ... something we all need to remember when everything starts to seem mundane around us. Enjoy your weekend Tammy,
Wendy

Fascinating! Actually I think your living area looks like a cool vintage shop, or at least that was my first impression. I think you would think my house is very plain by comparison, as the only wall in my house that is covered so much is just above my desk space in our bedroom. Everything else is pretty much bare because my OCD can't handle too much stuff displayed, though I still find those kinds of places interesting to visit. :)

Looks like a fun time spent showing your houseguest around.

Happy weekend.
Linda

Now that our kids have flown the nest, my husband and I are re-visiting some of our favorite places in our state. It is fun to play tourist at home:)

I would love to spend a few hours in your house, looking at all of those interesting things and pictures! I would never tire of it!

I love your lounge Tammy but I could not live in it myself, I like minimal furnishings and don't like too much going on.

Dearest Tammy,
You sure gave your Japanese guest new eyes and he will forever think very fondly of both of you for opening up your lovely and very warm home to them and showing him some of the world's marvels.
No doubt the food was great at your selection of choice for the restaurant.
Both of you are great hosts and that gives satisfaction!
Hugs,
Mariette

Wow, your house is indeed like a museum! There's so many lovely things to look at. I was trying to take a closer look in the photos, but I think I'd need a tour in person. ;-) It's always interesting to see your town and surroundings from a guest's view.

Your home is amazing, Tammy...I love that you shared. Very elegant but also serene and cozy...I would be very comfortable. The gallery wall is stunning and I love all the colors and patterns.

Beautiful and WOW!!! You have so many interesting pieces and I would love to learn how you came about each. It all looks so clean and well positioned that it doesn't look cluttered to me.
My Hubby is a minimalist, and is always on my case about all of my collections. I tell him that I need my own home so I can have all the stuff I LOVE on display and I can enjoy it!!! BTW...the house next to us is for sale...hmmm...I hope

Love your images! Beautiful and inspiring. I especially love your decor and the colours of your throw rug and cushions on your couch - favourite colours of mine.
