Soul Restoration

soul:

a person's deeply felt moral and emotional nature; the ability of a person to feel kindness and sympathy for others, to appreciate beauty and art, etc.

That's what walking does for me.
Restores my soul.
Negative people and circumstances can sometimes steal our joy for a moment and that can  really drag us down.  But when I put on my walking shoes and wander the neighborhood, I feel like everything is set right again.
Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.
Thomas Jefferson
Yesterday morning, despite the 104 F temperature, I walked for an hour and 15 minutes.  Friends thought I was crazy, but it actually didn't feel so bad at 9 o'clock in the morning.  Perhaps it was the fact that I was lost in the moment. Stopping to look at and collect things, snapping photos, taking in what's around me.
Wandering re-establishes the original harmony which once existed between man and the universe.
(Anatole France)

Whoever values peace of mind and the health of the soul will live the best of all possible lives.
(Marcus Aurelius)
I especially love finding unexpected little pretty spots like the one above.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

You live in a beautiful place...very lucky...there are some pretty places around here...I live in the oldest part of town, but with the change of seasons, it's just king of blah right now...but shoots and buds will be flowers soon....and I was inspired by one of your previous posts and took some pictures of some pretty gates...

What a wonderful way to start the day Tammy. My walks usually happen in the evening - I love that transitional time with everything settling down for another day - one day I'll get up early enough to see things waking up! Jane x

It's so pretty there. I love to walk too and I always enjoy discovering something new in my neighborhood. I think I see something new 9 times out of 10, if I had to guess!

Dearest Tammy,
We both are looking forward to do just that again; it always has restored our soul, even at midnight when Pieter came back from a trip we walked. It is so good! The garage is tiled, big job (hope this is really the last one!) by Pieter accomplished.
Hugs,
Mariette

I find flowering pots, bushes and trees deeply and thoroughly relaxing! Hence I immensely love your posts!

I was walking regularly too and I love it but then a neighbor wanted to walk with me and she talked the whole time about her life and its problems (all of her own making it seemed to me) and never noticed the wildflowers or beauty around us. She moved away the other day so it's not a problem but if she had wanted to walk with me every day it would have been! LOL!
I want to serve and help others but I lose patience with those who make their own problems when there is real suffering in the world and all they can think or talk about is themselves. I know...I need to work on not being judgemental...LOL!

I'm glad you enjoyed your walk, I admire you for walking in that heat like that! I would put a wet scarf around my neck to cool me down. Enjoy the weekend! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Hello Dear Tammy.....That was, indeed, an unexpected pretty spot! I admire your walking stamina. Wish you could send some enthusiasm for walking over this way. I do love to swim, though, but it's not enough. Gotta get those walking shoes on. Susan

Tammy I totally agree that walking can truly clear our minds and reduce our stresses. I completely understand the joy of finding little unexpected places and peace as you stroll along. Personally I would love the heat. Blissful Thoughts Dear...

So agree with everything here. I am fortunate to live in close proximity to everything I need, my car gets lots of rest. Your pictures are gorgeous.

You are a very brave lady to be out walking in 104 degree temperatures. Walking always clears my head and helps me think when I'm experiencing stressful times.
Blessings,
Betsy

Walking is so good for the soul isn't it Tammy? To get lost in ones mind for a bit. Getting rid of that tension and stress.
Happy June Tammy!

Good morning Tammy, hope you had a good weekend too.
I know what you mean when someone-especially a friend-comes up with a negative that really upsets one's mood. that happened to me yesterday when I was visiting a friend on the phone-I should have politely ended the conversation instead of continuing on for a little longer. It was so upsetting-and I know how this friend is-so why do I even continue to be friends I tell myself.
anyways I so agree with a good long walk-loved all your pretty photos. for once we are not getting extreme heat just yet-but lots of growing rains
Have an awesosme week ahead
Kathy

What a lovely walk, and some great quotes too. We see so much more at a walking pace than we ever can on two or four wheels. Isn't it wonderful that even at 104º (and higher) flowers bloom and birds sing! Have a great week, Tammy. :)

So is it the walking itself, or what you discover along the way that you enjoy so much? For me, it's the other parts...being in the woods, smelling the wildflowers, spending time with my hubby...

I wish I were as much of a walker as I used to be, but I really was at one time. It was especially profound to me one fall when I noticed all of the many of leaves under my feet and realized the variety of trees in my neighborhood (having never looked up much!)

Your pictures are just so pretty. And really, you have these temps already? When do they come down, and do you resort to staying indoors at some point? I hear people in Texas and Arizona do that in the months of June through August.

XO,
Jane

Such great photos! I can't believe you can walk in those temps. Getting lovely here. Summer is here! You have a great week. Kit

I agree with you completely and am about to put on my shoes and go. It always feels like the right way to start my week.

Your walking is inspiring me. It looks like we will be signing the lease on Friday...and if all goes well, the complex we are moving to, had walkway and gardens and secure places to walk. Also there is a pool, so I'm hoping I can get into a daily routine of walking and swimming.

Walking is what Henry David Thoreau did almost every day -- his book, "Walking," tells of the power of the soul and its interconnection with nature. If you haven't read it -- Let me suggest it to you. -- barbara
