Hanging Out

Dolce far niente!  The sweetness of doing nothing.  A concept my husband does not understand.
But after a busy week of work and running around, I just wanted to hang out this past weekend, especially since our weather was back to dreary and dusty.
My first moss rose bloom made an appearance the other day and it made me think of the saying "bloom where you are planted".  My flowers do their best to bloom but it is so very difficult in this heat and dust.
Wilted and faded.  That's kind of how I was feeling.  Looks like Jingles was feeling the same way, too.
So, while I practiced the art of doing nothing, I enjoyed a new book I bought while on our trip to Dubai.   Homespun Style by Selena Lake.  I had seen other bloggers post about it, so when I saw it in the bookstore, I quickly picked it up and headed to the checkout counter.
I could literally just look at the pictures over and over and over again every single day.  It was certainly what I needed to brighten my days.  And this wallhanging from a friend in Sri Lanka helped to further brighten my mood.
Finding a place to hang it could prove to be difficult since my walls are already full.  But I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Hope your day is a good one.

Get out! I just ordered that book from Amazon...should be here next week. I can't wait!
I'm trying to relax today...I must be like your husband...I'm constantly trying to be productive although if you saw my house you'd know why I can't relax! LOL! But I asked myself what I would love to do and I answered myself....(I know...not a good sign)...order fabric for a quilt, paint something, and most of all design and create something from scratch without copying someone else's idea or pattern or recipe. This is going to be VERY difficult for me! LOL! But I need to exercise my left brain? Or is the right? Anyway...the artistic, creative side....the other side has taken over! LOL!
Love that wall hanging! What gorgeous colors! Is it fabric? Could you make a pillow cover out of it? That way you wouldn't use any wall space. It looks like there is a lot of handwork in it. Beautiful! Spray your plants with water...that should keep the dust from clogging their pores. Enjoy your book....how inspiring! I can't wait to get mine! Have a great Sunday...R n' R!

you always have such different things! Perhaps we need to learn from Jingles and just....relax...wherever!! Joan

Look at your sweet kitty on the wicker chair, and the doves on the pot. Pretty photos.

I have trouble doing nothing. I much prefer to 'putter'. John tells me to sit and relax. Sitting does just the opposite. He has perfected it though :)

Your flowers look quite lovely though the are stressing in the heat. And, the wall hanging is gorgeous!

Ah, the famous concept portrayed in Eat, Love, Pray - I do not think I would ever practice it while I am alive (not that I don't want to but obligations doesn't let me :P)
A gorgeous book you've got yourself Tammy; I would love if you could show us more of it.
Have a lovely week.

I would want to just hang out and do nothing on those dreary type days too. I've heard a lot about that magazine too....must check to see if we get it here. I love the pics you shared from it!

Such a pretty wall-hanging too! I can see why it helped to brighten your mood. Good luck with finding a suitable spot for it.

Have a lovely day ~ xo

Just realised it's a book and not a magazine...I should have no probs ordering it online. YAY!

What a wonderful bunch of pictures for someone who did nothing. Jingles is so beautiful in that chair. Isn't it wonderful to get a book that you can just live in? Have a good week Tammy. Diane

I love doing nothing. I can do it quite well...all day long... ;)

And Jingles looks like she has it down to an art form. Haha!

Lovely flowers Tammy!

That's funny, reading your post. Not two hours ago I was speaking with someone and we were talking about just "hanging" out. A time for refreshing one self. Don't get too much time to do that and that is something I would like to change. Need that every so often. Have a great day/evening ... blessings.

Hi Tammy,

Hanging out and relaxing is great, especially after a busy week and would be lovely hanging out with sweet Jingles.
The Homespun style book looks great, and hope you find some space on the wall to hang the lovely wallhanging.

Have a happy week

Look at Jingles - what a cutie! I love this post, the art of doing nothing is something that sounds perfect to me. I think I could keep myself busy doing nothing all day given half the chance! I have also just whipped over to Book Depository and ordered this fab book having seen it a couple of times on different blogs and websites over the last week. I have to have it!!! It looks like the perfect book to flick through on a gloomy autumn day.

Have a fab week hon.

I like to do nothing sometimes, but I get bored easily too, so I usually like to have something to be planned in the works. :)

I love the photos you took, especially of Jingles. Just beautiful.

Hope you have a great new week. Only 3 weeks of school remain here.

You are doing very well, Tammy, to grow your pretty moss rose in the heat and dust. I hope you had a relaxing day and recharged your batteries yesterday. The book does look lovely, I must get a copy. Love the wall hanging too. I hope you have a good week and the weather freshens up a bit for you.

Oh, do I ever understand the sweet joys of sometimes doing nothing...doesn't happen often enough, does it?!

I thought of you the other day when my girls found three little kittens in our yard...abandoned by their mother. Three little gray ones with the bluest eyes...

They researched and found out how to care for them...bottle feeding with formula & all! 6 days later, they're happy, healthy & not one bit of "wild" in them! Now we just need to find homes for them...well, 2 of them, at least!

Wishing you a beautiful day, dear friend!

I'd hoped so much to relax this weekend following a medical procedure Thurs. which hit me hard............BUT of course it didn't happen. The 'frig is dying a slow death (but it is 26 years old!) and would cost $700 to repair - no way at that age! So we shopped, and shopped, looking for one to fit our space in the right size, color, shelves etc., so boring and tiring!! It comes tomorrow and hopefully will be perfect - but of course it will never last 26 years - doubt we will either, LOL!! Meanwhile, now cleaning out the old one and planning not to fill the new one with anything but healthy food!

Love the doves - and your sweet kitty pics. The Sri Lankan wall hanging is beautiful.
Hope the dust settles soon.
Hugs - Mary

Oh, I love that saying. Once in awhile in our busy lives, we need to do just that...nothing. Sometimes the weather has a lot to do with my mood. I love the book you showed, I just wrote it down on my wish list. It looks like my kind of book. Glad you and Jingles got to enjoy some down time.

Hi Tammy....Loved the wallhanging...just my style. Glad you had some "me" time. Hope your week turns out to be super. Susan

I know what you mean about harsh conditions on flowers. Kitty cat looks sweet! The book sounds wonderful! I have the same kind of days now and then. I call it a chance to get my creative batteries recharged.

I know what you mean about heat and dust. Many of my plants don't make it through the summer. My poor jade plant will be so lovely wit new growth and then heat causes it to wither. I must remember to bring it in soon but it really doesn't do well indoors.
Love the colorful blooms in your photos. Wallhanging is lovely. Hope you find the perfect place to display.

Spent the weekend in Palm Springs with my two sisters. Hot and dry there too.

That looks like a great book - I'll have to put it on my wish list. Jingles is so cute. It looks like she has perfected the art of doing nothing, but cats are pretty good at that. ;-)

I may have to go get that book! I love the doves, so sweet. My husband likes to keep busy, but lucky for me, he lets me just hang out somedays, laying on the bed and watching HGTV!!

Hi Tammy,
I can certainly appreciate those lazy days...just relaxing doing nothing in particular. Although I haven't had one in what seems to be a long, long time. Enjoy them while you can, I say :-) Hope the weather gets better soon...It's been gloomy a lot lately here...Can't wait for the sunny and warmer days of summer. Happy May my friend.

Hugs and Kisses,
♥Ana

A relaxing and gracious post, Tammy! Loved our pictures, especially of the kitty. I hope your week is going well.

BTW, my crocheted dish clothes are coming out better and better --- and are no longer "ruffled". I kind of miss the prettiness, but it's nice to have them turn out as intended. I paid careful attention to "tension".

I too love finding the time to do nothing... so hard for me to to that as I feel guilty for not getting more done. But oh, is it needed!! Wishing you more sweet time to just enjoy doing nothing.

Love your gorgeous quilt you were gifted with.

Have a wonderful week.

Balance. It's always about balance. Let me know if you figure it out Tammy. Glad you got to see the moon. It's 8:00P.M. here and although it's been rainy all day it looks clear now so I'm hoping. Your food always sounds so good. Diane
