Getting into a Routine

Over the weekend I read a post by Lucy at Attic24 entitled Routine. She voiced exactly what I have been feeling about housework. I keep saying I will get into a routine so I can keep up but so far that hasn't happened. Housework is not on my list of "favorite things to do".

My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance. ~Author Unknown

I need a schedule. Besides the daily upkeep, I plan to tackle a room or two each day of the week. Today I started with my bedroom. My plan was to work for about an hour but next thing I knew, it was 7 pm and nearly 4 hours had gone by. Why is there always so much to do?

There is no daily chore so trivial that it cannot be made important by skipping it two days running. ~Robert Brault

I'm hoping that as I get into a routine, the chores will be easier to tackle. Crafting and crocheting have been on the back burner these past two weeks so that has got to change.

No matter how small the project, I need to be creative every day.

I've got a plan. Now I've just got to stick to it. Wish me luck!

Hope your day is a good one! Best wishes and blessings, Tammy

That is such a great day. I have days where I don't crochet at all, and I always feel cross at the end of those days. Making time, even if it is only five or ten minutes is such a lovely idea!!!

sorry, great idea, not great day!!

Hi, thanks for your visit to my blog... always great to link up and say G'day to someone new.... I love reading all your quotes... and work up this morning knowing I HAVE to get soem housework done... as a 'mature' person I find it is much quicker to do it without my glasses on... it's not nearly so dusty!

Your bedroom is a cozy retreat...and well worth the time you spent there working on it. Love the colors and the cute pillows at the foot of the bed are too wonderful.

Ah, Jingles has the right idea!!! Snuggle in the clothes.

Have a lovely week, my friend.

Good luck Tammy. I think house keeping is such a pain. I try to do a little each day to keep it from being so overwhelming. Since our house is for sale I have to keep it straightened and cleaned all the time...what a pain!

I've been frustrated with my lack of time to knit lately!! I understand the need to have time to create. Let's hope both our schedules allow us time to do just that!

I will try to get on a routine with the house... but, things come up... I get off... then, I never seems to get back on course. grrrrr... I may make a renewed attempt at this, too. Good luck! blessings ~ Tanna

it's 2011 time the men in the house helped too and no don't say it's worse if they help...they should learn how to do it properly...I have two sons...I didn't work...but they learnt how to do laundry, keep their rooms at least half way decent and they also learnt to cook some simple things...their father can do anything I can do...and more, coz I can't do the plumbing !!!! I'm serious, they all live there too so why don't they have to help keep it up...it's only fair...and it's good for them!!!!! :) :) :)

I wish you luck and I also think you should follow Jingles advice occasionally. She knows when to take a nap! Diane

Hi Tammy....first off....I love that bedroom. O.K. routine....when one works outside the home it is hard to keep up with everything on the home front...but routines are a good thing if you can get in the routine of doing the routine!! LOL LOL LOL

Hi Tammy....I try to get a few things done on a daily basis. I always leave time to do something for me, too. Like blog. Life goes by SO quickly. Don't want to waste a minute of it or let to go by unnoticed.

I hope you can check some things off on your to do list. It's hard when you are working. I well I remember those days of job, kids, husband, house, etc.

Take care and have a good Monday. Susan

Hi Tammy,
I remember my mom telling me when my kids were small that they grow up so fast and the housework will always be there. I now believe her. Routine and an orderly house are nice, but enjoying every moment with the family is even nicer.
Your bedroom looks so pretty and cozy. I'm giving you permission to enjoy your crocheting and crafting, guilt free ;).

I think subscribing to your two quotes is the ultimate plan. . .but then you would disappear in a mountain of disorder! So, good luck with your plan. (I'm lucky, I live in a small space so housework takes very little time :-)

At first I read 'homework', because that is all the conversation around here! Housework, ick. Adding a dash of creativity to the day is a great idea XOL

Hi Tammy,
I have a routine!
Do it when that little voice in your head says 'Now is the Time'or just before a trip away,(stays done for longer and nice to come home to), otherwise 30 minutes every morning and enoughs enough.
Happy crafting, Hugs, Angela.

I'm not a fan of housework either although I always feel better after my house has had a good clean. There never seems to be enough hours in the day.

Your bedroom is beautiful...just like your lounge room, warm and cosy.

Have a lovely week,

I wonder if looking for a schedule is something that occurs each September when school starts again. I am looking for a good schedule too, but in terms of just getting through each day. Things have changed a lot around the house with Omar studying at home, and it has left me trying to teach him lots of lessons about being organized, focused and on track. It is all good, but hard to adjust to all the new things going on.
Good luck staying on track with the new cleaning schedule. My crafting time has been non existant too since coming back to Doha, and I need it back. I am not a very nice person if I don't get my "me" craft time each day. Everyone in this house will be happy if I get my craft time back! HA!
Missing you in Doha!!

I absolutely hate routine of any kind and also absolutely hate house work. I do what I want to do when I want to do it with the excuse that whatever I do it will look exactly the same tomorrow. with 5 cats my home will never be pristine.
Routine frightens me a bit, I always feel old people have routines and although I am 'ahemmm' getting there I don't consider myself old.
And there is always the rebellious side to me that says I'll do what I want' lol

Love that bundle of ginger...

If you get into that routine of cleaning regularly it doesn't take as long next time. Housework is so boring and very time consuming and it never ends sadly but once it's done it does feel good, maybe you can give yourself a reward at the end so you will want to do it or listen to music to help pass the time. I hope you get into a housework routine. Thank you for stopping by Tammy.

Well that saying says it all!! Isn't it great?
Having two small children and one big one (husband) the house gets in a mass without any effort, so I curse the one who invented housework on daily basis! :)
Things like housework are inevitable whether we like it or not!
Have a nice day!

Don't know if it helps Tammy but I assign things to myself by the hour. It really does help knowing I only have an hour to do "blank" so I make the most of my time!

I've tried that scheduling a room a day to clean bit, doesn't work for me. I'd rather just figure out which room is the dirtiest, and maybe get it done. :) Mind you, I don't mind spending hours on a specific project, like reorganizing a craft closet, as that entails drooling over all the little things you forgot you had....
I love that you feel the need to accomplish at least one creative thing a day. That is wonderful.
Have a great week!
Maureen

Hi Tammy,
I've told myself that very same thing - that I'll start a routine and tackle one room each week. I love a clean house, but hate housework, ick! I'd much rather spend my time on other things (like blogging! lol) My routine never seems to work...I end up doing it when I notice the dust on my tables, etc. lol Thanks for stopping by my blog and your comments about my gourds!

Tammy,
Housework is rarely on my list of things to do. Our house always "looks" neat on the surface - I vacuum, sweep, a little dusting here and there, but it is not deep cleaned, though I say that's why we are rarely ever sick (because we live with germs!). :)

Daughter always knows when we're having company, because that's basically the ONLY time I deep clean. Thank goodness, we have company at least once a month or so....

Hope you have a great week,
Linda

Well after 4 hours of hard work, your bedroom sure looks spiffy. I think you should just take a cue from Jingles and curl up in a corner and relax....lol. My organization skills are severly lacking and I can't seem to keep up with all the "stuff" that just magically appears everyday around here...WHERE DOES IT COME FROM??? I think little elfs come in the night to wreak havoc. Good luck trying to get on a schedule.

Enjoy your work of scheduling,
Melissa

I'm right with you on the routine thing. I have been trying to keep up with everything but the house always seems to come in last. I decided it was time for some changes so I started rearraging things in here and I am hoping to be finished by tonight. I wish I could blame it on the kids but no, the mess was mine! I have been crafting pumpkins like a wild woman and so had lost sight of how messy I had made the downstairs. I am hoping that when I get it all put back together my new system will help me keep it clean and organized... wish me luck! Have a great day Tammy! t. xoxoxo

I LOVE your bedroom...love the African antique cloth above the bed too. I have a large one of those.
And...I rarely even sweep with a glance!! :)

Sounds excactly like me too! I always plan I will take one room each dau of the week and make a new household routine but this far I haven´t succeed! It´s just not on my list either. I prefer just being laid back and enjoying life in just being...
But guess what draw me to your blog in the first place? Your pictures of your cozy home. I did see the pics of your livingroom and added you to my list because I like the style! Your photo of the bedroom is gorgeous! :)
Have a great week! Blessings!

Hi Tammy ~ I guess I'm a bit neurotic as I actually like to clean, lol! However, sometimes I spent too much time cleaning and organizing so then I don't have enough time for fun, relaxation, or crafting. Hard to find just the right balance!

Love your bedroom. The colors are beautiful. I too have a cleaning schedule that I am on... but sometimes life and creativity throw it a curve and then I "allow" myself a few slip ups. It is so important to find the balance. I know that I still am.

Wishing you a wonderful week.

Hi Tammy - Love the quote about cleaning!! I would so much rather craft than clean- wouldn't we all! But then - I love to have my craft room clean and neat - unfortunately that does not happen very often either!

Love the picture of your kitty - adorable. The photo of your bedroom is beautiful - you have a lovely home.

Good luck with your projects - cleaning and crafting - (maybe just do one room a day?)

Hugs,
Vicki
