The Bastille District

Our first task upon arriving in Paris was to make our way through the airport to the metro system. Fortunately, my husband knew just what to do since he has been there on business many times before.

As it turns out, our hotel was just one block from the metro station where we exited. Best Western runs the Hotel Marais Bastille which is centrally located and sits on a street lined with trees, with a park just across the street.

The view from a small balcony off our room was beautiful.

It was so lovely to see that the leaves had already begun to change.

Yet there were also colorful plants and flowers everywhere we looked.

It was like experiencing fall and spring at the same time.

We arrived late afternoon on Sunday so our first night was spent wandering the area around our hotel.

Just a few blocks away was the Colonne de Juliet which stands as a tribute to those who died in the uprisings of 1830 and 1848.

Nights were cool enough that we were able to sleep with the windows open, something unheard of during summer in Kuwait.

Since our flight had departed Kuwait at 4 am and we didn't get to our hotel until after 4 pm, we all slept really well that first night.

I am nearly through the mountain of laundry we brought back with us. School clothes have been ironed, ready for the start of the new school year tomorrow. It's still amazing to me that one day we can be in Paris, and the next day we are home again, back to reality.

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Best wishes for a great new week. Friendship blessings, Tammy

Your trip to Paris looks amazing. I have been once and would love to go again and pretend I actually live there. Of course I don't speak French so it would be difficult but I am willing to try. Happy school days to the littles. When does your summer end? Ours is very soon. Blissful days to you...

Fabulous. That comment about the metro from the airport to the city, brought back so many memories of Scott and my trip. I think we had a major melt down right there. No clue where to go and Scott had the brillant idea about every thing in backpacks. Now, that was about 14 years ago, but right now it feels like yesterday looking at all your pics. What a fun trip this was.

Dearest Tammy,

Both days for the wedding on Friday and Saturday were unbelievably sunny and warm! Like a dream. The minute it all was over, it started raining...
Thanks for you visit and comment and welcome back to 'reality' with laundry and other chores that await us after our travels!
Love to you,

Mariette

Wow, Paris....that is so cool! I love the buildings in your pictures. I bet you really enjoyed the coolness of the Parisienne summer :)
It gets me excited for when we can do some traveling (after Mike retires this-coming Spring).

I have been so many places in my lifetime, but Paris is not one of them. I did not realize that there would be changing trees there. How lovely. It sure looks beautiful with the flowers, small streets and beautiful buildings. Such a change from your last vacation to Napal. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings on your blog.
Glad to hear you were able to get through all the laundry. My bags are unpacked, and laundry is next on my list of things to do.
Hope the boys had a wonderful first day of school. We have one more week to go...
Love ya,
Renee

What a lovely trip. The only bad thing about living in Australia is that everywhere else is so very far away. Would so love to visit more countries

So happy you and your family got to experience Paris. Loved all the photos. Glad you had a change-of-scene from the heat of Kuwait, too.

Take care and may your week be wonderful
