Feathered Friends, No Matter the Weather

This sweet little guy is making use of the ceramic bowl I put out filled with water.

108 degrees today so I am sure my feathered friends need a little refreshment every now and then.

No matter the weather, I love making soup -- simple, easy, nutritious. In fact, I heard the other day if you eat vege soup before a meal, you are guaranteed to lose weight. For me, soup is the meal! One of my favorites is spicy corn & lentil soup.

Boil 1 cup of orange lentils then reduce heat and simmer til tender (about 15 minutes); drain and set aside. Drizzle pot with olive oil and saute one chopped onion, 4 cloves of garlic, a pinch of red pepper flakes, and 1 tsp each of ground cardamom and ground cumin for a few minutes. Add lentils back to pot along with 2 cups of vege stock, 1-1/2 cups of coconut milk and one can of creamed corn. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Before serving, stir in a handful of chopped cilantro.

I don't know where all the hours in each and every day go. Before I know it, it's time to hit the hay and then start all over again.

Hope your week is off to a great start. Friendship blessings, Tammy

Hi Tammy...The soup sounds yummy. I LOVE lentil and I love corn "chowdah" and, of course, I love curry. Hope your day was good. The time does tend to fly by, faster than a speeding bullet. Take care. Susan

My mother in law said that to me yesterday, only I don't think of eating soup in warm weather.

Poor birdies! I hope they have a water source nearby. :)

Sweet birdie! :) I like soup too, though we don't seem to have it when the weather is hot. Maybe that will be our dinner tonight though.

I bet Mr. Bird was thankful for that drink of water!

Your lentil soup sounds good. I like soup at anytime too...no matter the weather.

Your bird looks happy to have someone around who thinks of him. It is HOT here too, and really windy, which means dust. BOO!! That soup is one of my favorites. I cannot find creamed corn here, so it has been a while since I have made it. Have a bowl for me!! I made a dish the other night with tons of veggies, shrimp and coconut milk. It is Cuban. It was too spicy for the kids, but I was happy, and I think the hubby enjoyed it too.
Hope you are finding time for that wonderful creative side of yours!!!!

Love ya,
Renee
