Oatmeal Cream Pies

There was a time, many years ago, when I LOVED Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies. Two of them with a big glass of milk and I was a happy camper. You couldn't pay me to eat them now (sorry Little Debbie), and why buy prepackaged not so good for you food items when you can make something similar at home? I used the recipe found on the inside of the Quaker Oatmeal box

Then mixed together cream cheese with powdered sugar for the filling.

My family gave them two thumbs up. Isn't homemade always better? I hope your week is filled with all things sweet and wonderful. Friendship Blessings, Tammy

Those cookies look delicious. I agree homemade is best when we know exactly what ingredients are in our food. Who wants those saturated and trans fats, certainly not me. I'm of for a healthy breakfast of fruit and porridge(oatmeal).
Enjoy your day, Angela.

I put those oatmeal pies in my daughter's lunch bag when she was in grade school, and I must admit I ate my fill of them too! I'll give this recipe a try, because I still love anything with oatmeal in it!

Little "Deffie" (as my daughter pronounced it as a child) was a favorite here, too. But your new 'modern' and updated ones look so much better. I'll be over in an hour, so save me some. Oh, my, they look soooooo good!
Hugs,
Jan

When in the world do you find time to bake?? You must be a much better time manager than I am ... HA! The cookies look wonderful. I can't tell you how many times I have looked at that recipe on the top of the oatmeal box. It's been ages since I made oatmeal cookies. Good for you for being creative!
I can't believe you admitted you used to like Little Debbie. Melissa might remember that for a while and throw it back at you... HA!

Love ya,
Renee

Oh, yeah! Those look good. I know the little debbie cakes of which you speak. They make me sick to my stomach.
I've been eating oatmeal/yogurt/blueberries a lot since you posted a while back about overnight oats :)

The cookies look delicious! I'm not much of a baker but now that the weather is getting cooler I'm getting an urge to be in the kitchen. These will go in my idea file!

Dearest Tammy,

You're so right about wanting to be in control of the ingredients; thus making it yourself! The photo looks tempting enough for wanting to take a bit...

Have a great week and lots of sunshine from Georgia/USA

Hi Tammy,

Your biscuits look delicious and your family are lucky and can see why they gave the two thumbs up!
Oatmeal cookies are divine and yes, home made is so much nicer and fresher than store bought.
We make a biscuit called Anzac biscuits, that have rolled oats and golden syrup they are crunchy and yummy.

Happy week

Hi Tammy!
These cookies look absolutely delicious! I will try them soon.
I so understand your predicament the other night with the little kitty - that happened to me last year. But you know, we just have to hope and pray such little kitties find their mother; they really aren't supposed to be without their mother until they are 3 months. And since you already have a cat in your house... there really was little else you could do. That was my predicament last year - my German Shepherd, Harry, might have been thrilled to have a cat in the house (he was such a sweetheart - see his picture at http://www.stnicholasandchristmas.com/search/label/Personal) but he was fighting lymphoma at that time and we couldn't chance bringing in any other illnesses that he might have caught. This time - with little Eddie - we could offer him a home; very gladly actually since we are missing our dear dog so much... Don't feel bad. Most likely the kitty found it's mother or else some one else who could give it a home at this time. Honestly, often, it is all about timing...
So glad to have found you!
Many blessings,
Ann

You know Little Debbie is right up my alley. I was actually really good about not getting seduced by her over the summer. Now only if you can come up with a recipe for the swiss rolls and I'll be in heaven:)

Tammy, you are brilliant! Great idea and they look delicious! I used to enjoy lots of Little Debbies before there were nutricion labels. Now, I steer clear of those innocent looking little devils! Have a great week! Twyla

These look fabulous. I always use that exact recipe when baking oatmeal cookies, and then I stir in mini chocolate chips, per my children's request. :) I find with this recipe, you can't overcook or undercook...they taste great no matter what!
Thanks for sharing with us.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.

I admit that I'm still a fan of the Little Debbie snack cake line. I will say however that I did make my own chocolate whoopie pies with vanilla cream filling the other day and they were gone by the end of the next day.
