Grateful

First I would like to thank everyone who stopped by yesterday with such kinds thoughts of condolences and comfort. My brother was able to attend the funeral and said that it doesn't get any easier. He wishes we could go back to the days of innocence. Those days when we were all at Mammaw's for Christmas, cousins sleeping on the floor so that we could all be together for the holidays.

It seems my uncle had gone to the VA Hospital in Jackson MS and spent the whole day there for doctors and dental appointments. They think he fell asleep behind the wheel and ran off the road around 7 pm. He died in the hospital shortly before midnite. When something unexpected like this happens, it is hard for the heart to catch up with the brain. Acceptance takes a little longer for those directly affected. Distance gives me an advantage in that regard.

Yesterday was a beautiful day here. Hubby and I took our first trip out to Friday Market. When I first came to Kuwait, it was just a big open area where folks would lay out their wares on tables or blankets on the ground. Although they still do that, at least they are now under covered pavillions.

Everything can be found there from the old to the new.

I wanted all those beads in the bowl there on the lower left, but the guy wanted way too much money for them.

I love blue and white ceramic so this little coffee grinder came home with me.

Along with these little trays that are just perfect for Fall gift giving. Pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies, crocheted pumpkins and a finished doily.

The rest of the day was spent in quiet contemplation. Crocheting. Coffee with friends.

"With an eye made quiet by the power of harmony,
and the deep power of joy, we see into the life of things."
Wordsworth, William

Wishing you a joyful weekend. Friendship blessings, Tammy

Good Morning Tammy! I'm so glad to hear that you and your hubby were able to get out and spend time together yesterday. It sounds like given the circumstances that you had a nice, relaxing day, that will help.
Your little crocheted pumpkins are adorable and those cookies look yummy! Take care... thoughts and prayers... Theresa xoxo

So sorry to hear of your uncle's passing. I am also far (not as far as you) from all my extended family. I haven't seen aunts and uncles for years and they WERE a huge part of my life growing up. Close in spirit though. Prayers for you as you reflect on the past, a time spent with family. Know that God will keep those memories close to your heart and a smile for the good ole' days. Hearts and hugs ♥

I didn't see your post yesterday and was sorry to hear of your uncles death. Please accept by sympathy.

The market sounds like a fun place and I love the things you purchased. We went to the local farmers market yesterday but it is just a small one. We purchased tamales and some vegetables.

I love the cute crochet pumpkins.

I have two uncles that I am extremely fond of ... I often think about how hard it will be when my dad passes ... But hadn't thought of this planet without my uncles .... An uncle can be like a dad and a brother at the same time ... I am very sorry for your loss and the suddenness of it ... What a shock .....

Oh, dear Tammy...I'm so sorry. Just read your earlier post, too...this is never easy, and I'm sorry you're going through it right now.

Memories are beautiful things, though, aren't they? And they're always ours to keep.

Love what you found at the market...I love blue & white together, too.

Hope today is a better day, my friend.

Dear Tammy
I'm so glad you had some 'time out' yesterday. I love the treasures you found, I would have bought the B & W coffee grinder too!!
And Oh those beads and trinkets, just what I would hope to find in a Kuwait market/bazaar!!
How long is it since you had a trip home? I think that could help if it's an option for you....
Thinking of you dear Tammy
hugs
Shane

There is, indeed, no time to really catch up with what just has happened, when losing a dear one unexpectedly. I lost my grandma to an accident eleven years ago. She lived with us, so imagine the awfulness that it was this moment. I thought for a while, and realized that she left for reasons beyond comprehension to humans like us, and - as consolation - was not because of illness that kept her suffering. I hope some of these words make some sense to you Tammy, as I hope that just like with my grandma, time will help you understand and accept your loss.
Have a lovely day.

I am glad to know you had some time for quiet reflection and relaxation today. I am sure it is much needed after an emotional couple of days with family issues. The market looks amazing. I have not been down to the old souk here yet, but saw some of the vendors that have stands there yesterday at the bazaar. We might be taking a trip down there next week... I love the coffee grinder you came home with. Really lovely.
I am glad to know you are still turning out the crocheted pumpkins. Mine is back in San Antonio; it made me smile this morning to see them smiling at me from your picture.
Hope you have a good Monday. I am thinking of you!!

Love,
Renee

Oh Tammy I am so sorry to hear about your Uncle. I don't get to your blog as often as I would like to and I was shocked to read this today. You will most definitely be in my thoughts and prayers.
My Uncle died last year very unexpectedly. He had been in the hospital and had received news from the doctor that he had six months to live (lung problems) and he died that day! Life is meant to be lived and we must live it while we can.
Hugs~~

Dearest Tammy,

Just read this from one of your comments, that you lost your uncle...
So sorry to know and I certainly know the pain for being far away when a loved one died or even marries at times. The day he passed away I was living through a lot myself as on November 3 my dear Pieter had a quadruple bypass and an angioplasty stent in his neck. (on Sept. 04 I wrote a blog: Big Heart on the Mend...)
He might have ended up exactly like your uncle, causing an accident... Luckily our Dutch friends were delayed by 1½ hr, that was the message I received from Delta airlines. Thus my husband saw his doctor as he was not feeling well for some reason. Turned out his heart rate was only 30 and he had a heart attack... could have collapsed behind the wheel had our friends NOT been delayed and we would have hit the road to Atlanta airport.
We're blessed! But I'm so sad for your uncle. A loyal patriot who served his country and having to die that way. It is especially hard for those left behind; for accepting this untimely fate...
Lots of love,

MariettesBacktoBasics
