A Whole Lotta Honkin' Going On

All the transport trucks in India were painted and decorated nicely and had this request on their backside.

If anyone watched the World Cup, you remember all the horns blowing all the time. Well, driving around in India was kinda like that.

It's commonplace to "horn" in order to let those around you know that you are there and want to pass.

After having myself driven more than 5,000 miles while in the States this summer, I was quite content to sit back and take in all the images of the countryside.

Our trip was booked as a tour which meant we had the same driver the entire time. Balveer was the nicest guy you could ever meet.

He told us that you need three things to drive in India: Good eyes!

Good brakes!

And Good luck!

Between all the cars and trucks, motorcycles and bicycles, rickshaws and tuk tuks, pedestrians, cows and dogs, it was certainly an obstacle course. And if you needed a ride to where you were going, you just grabbed on and held tight.

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur make a triangle so driving between destinations was about 5 hours each way. I was thankful for my camera to capture everything along the way and my crochet to keep me busy.

Hope everyone is having a super Saturday! Best wishes, Tammy

Hi Tammy,
And I thought driving in London was bad enough with all those buses and black cabs.
I am really enjoying your visit, thanks so much for sharing.
Smiles,
Angela.

When I saw your title I thought it was going to be a post about geese flying South. That's about the only honking going on in my little corner of the world. Love your crochet!

What a trip. I am looking at all the bicycles, rikshaws, and people walking about and SO happy that I don't have to drive in that on a daily basis. It is making the driving here in Qatar look pretty good! HA! It looks like SUCH a wonderful experience to see life in that area of the world. I am thinking it gives you appreciation for small things like paved roads.
Love the pictures and tales. I can't wait to see tomorrow's post!!

Love you,
Renee

I love the image of you crocheting away while your driver dodges all the traffic. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

I'm not going to complain about Denver traffic again! Sounds like your driver was full of wisdom (3 of them) that got you through some rough traffic problems. I agree, sit back and let somebody else do the driving!

Your crocheting soothes the nerves, huh? Lovely colors and patterns!

Loving the photos you are posting....can't wait to see what else you saw. The buildings from yesterdays post are georgeous.

Warm hugs,
Jan

Hi Tammy. Wowsers. Wonder how new drivers handle that! Whoa doggie. I would not like to drive there. Love seeing parts of the world through your eyes, since I probably will never see them myself. Susan

Talk about traffic ... what obstacles! And you brought your crocheting ... love the little medallions. Looking forward to seeing how you use them.

Sounds comical if it wasn't terrifying sometimes, I'm sure. Your guide sounds like he had a wonderful sense of humor. Personally, I would really hate to have one of the big semi's on the road honk at me - I'd probably drive off the road! Diane

Hi Tammy,

Your crochet is looking beautiful!

My son visited Thailand in February and it sounds like the driving there is much the same as in India. He said that the busy road intersections were quite an experience...lol I really enjoyed your pics today.

Tammy your trip to India must have been a treasure. I love your driver's three musts to get around there. That would have scared the beejeebees out of me then and there. Your photos in your previous post are gorgeous. What a beautiful place.

That looks like quite the trip. You are one traveling girl aren't you! I'm glad you had a driver because it looks like a crazy place to maneuver a car. I enjoyed seeing the pictures.

Isn't the world just a beautiful place, Tammy?
So much to see, to share...to learn!
We visited China last year and gave the Chinese people a show every time the 9 of us tried to cross the street!! LOL! I wish everybody in the world had the opportunity, the means and the desire to travel...the world would be a much peaceful place if they did.
