Plentiful

It's a good thing I like dates! Hubby went to Dubai on a business trip the other day and brought back this lovely box.

It is filled with dates -- some are stuffed with pecans, almonds, lemon peel. Delish!

There are tons of date trees to be found in this country, but the crazy thing is, there's no date manufacturing company. All of the dates we buy at the grocery store are brought in from Saudi Arabia. And most of the ones you find on the trees here will be left to dry up and fall to the ground. Just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

One of my co-workers had someone harvest the dates from her trees. She gave me a package of them today.

Along with a container filled with homemade date mahmoul (cookies). My absolute favorite! Dates are a perfect snack when you are looking for something sweet. Great with a cup of green tea.

Hope your day is filled with sweetness! Friendship blessings, Tammy

Funny Tammy, I thought 'sure I like to go on dates too' oops, wrong dates! Those look delicious but I have to be honest I don't think I've ever had a date before. I think I should remedy that and give one a try! Have a good night, I hope the dust has died down! Theresa xoxo

Yummy dates, don't get too many around here. What a waste not to harvest what is there

Oh Tammy I love dates! Anyway I can get them. I eat a lot of dates at Christmas mostly. Not sure why at only Christmas, but they just say holiday to me. You have so many yummy gifts.
I hope you are having a lovely Fall.

Right about now I'm thinking dates look like they'd make a pretty good breakfast- what a yummy looking box, too.

Hi tammy
My goodness, that is wierd about not harvesting the dates, did the fresh dates taste different then the imported ones? And I bet they taste better over there then here. I have to say I don't mind them but they are low on the list, I think it is the texture of the skin that bothers me. But they look beautiful!
I saw your post on the dust, I hope it doesn't bother your lungs. In AZ you can get what they call desert fever and it is a lung condition caused by dust.
I hope you have a lovely weekend
Be blessed today
Rebecca

Mmmm...my Mom used to put a nut in the middle of a date and roll them in confectioners sugar! Think I am going to have to do that this holiday season ~ thanks for the memory Tammy!

How interesting! I never thought there could be that many dates around your area! and going to waste!! :o( couldn't they harvest them and send them abroad? it could be good business. There are, on the contrary, no date trees in Guatemala. At least that I know of. I suppose the weather is no good? Too humid? It would be amazing to have some around! We love dates at home!!
Have a lovely weekend!

It's a shame about the dates, so wasteful. So many date cookies going to waste. I don't really like eating dates too much but I will eat the cookies from Al-Rifai. Haven't had them in a long time. Right now I've been obsessing over grapes...and pretty much everything else these past few days. I just feel so hungry, nothing is satisfying, I just want more...it's scary...lol! Hopefully it passes.

I just love blogging parties because you meet so many interesting people from all over the world. You mentioned being a long way from home but it sounds like you have bloomed where you were planted! Love all your travel pictures. What great opportunities!

I like dates very much and don't buy them enough. I am sure the fresh ones are very good. Thanks for sharing and visiting me.

I did not realize that there are no date processing plants in Kuwait. What a shame, as I know first hand how many trees there are. Your dates look wonderful, as do the cookies that your friend gave you. I love those cookies, as they are not too sweet. I am thinking they would taste great with the green tea I found the other day.
Enjoy your cookies and dates.

Love ya,
Renee

I LOVE dates. One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is eggs, dates, honey, pita bread and a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. YUM!
