Supermoon

The moon was reigning over their world, glowing its full splendor to all those willing to look up.
Irina Serban

My husband woke me at 5:30 am so I could see the setting of last night's supermoon.
From our balcony this morning, I took this picture through sleepy eyes.
Last night, I had to wait for it to circle it's way around buildings before I could get a glimpse of it.
Of course, using my phone means that I don't always get the best shots, but most of the time, it's the only thing I have with me.
Like when we were in Jerusalem and I saw a crescent moon over the old city.
Or when we were in Jordan and it was peeking through the cypress trees.
And shining over the city of Amman at night.
This morning, since I was up, I figured I'd better make it worth my while, and reached for my big girl camera.
That's the tip of a palm frond in front of the moon.
Closer.
And even closer.
I do love a good zoom.

The moon is a loyal companion.
It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.
Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.

Blessings for the week,

Any time I try to photograph the moon now, which is infrequent, I can't help but thinking about Relient K's song "Look on Up". There is so much truth in those lyrics (which explore the dangers of social media obsession). I took one cruddy iphone picture of the moon this morning on my way to work, which was while I was zooming down the road, out my passenger window (no worries - no cars around during my drive since I'm up at 5:00 a.m. and on the road after 6:00 a.m.). Like you though, I always find the moon beautiful. I see the heavens as a reminder that God is way way bigger than all of us and He sees the entire picture that we don't.
Kind regards,
Linda

I love those words about the moon - how precious it is - knowing even when it's invisible it's still somewhere lighting up the sky. This one is amazingly beautiful and your pics are fabulous Tammy. I didn't even have a chance to shoot any as we had such heavy cloud cover here.

I thank you for sharing your moon photos.. we've been covered by clouds and rain all through this moon and I'm so bummed out. You know how I love to take pictures of the moon! We're alike you and I that way. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

You know I love a good moon photo, unfortunately we had cloudy skies last night and I missed it. We almost never have cloudy skies!

Thanks for your beautiful post, Tammy. I especially appreciate it since I could not see the moon due to steady rain. On my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro screens I currently have the Big Blue Marble view of earth from outer space because I want to remember that the planet on which I live is amazingly beautiful...even when life experience on it ranges from joy to sorrow. xx

Hi Tammy,

Wonderful photos of the moon - looks lovely and clear. We had some cloud so was not the best for photo taking.
Hope you are enjoying the week

The moon is amazing, and these photos are, too. We had cloudy skies, there was a bit of moon, but nothing very impressive, so I'm happy to see yours.

Oh ... these are incredible photos Tammy! I saw the moon closest in a telescope of a guy who was letting to see it for money actually... but your pictures are even better than what I saw!
I love the Moon... but it certainly has its effect on my mood, and even Little A has trouble falling asleep when the full moon approaches.
Take care! The quote is just perfect!

Taking out the big camera was totally worth it. What a powerful zoom!
I tried to capture the moon using my phone camera, no success. So hubby had to dug for the big camera too..ha ha

Wow, Tammy! Those last few shots are amazing. I just realized that even half around the world, we still see the same moon. Cool thought!

Amazing moon photo's Tammy, my zoom photo's are always blurred because I can't keep my hands steady I need a tripod I think. It was shining through my small hall window and cast a bright square on my stairs which made me miss my footing, I fell down the last three steps twisted my ankle and jammed my thumb and finger in the banister when I grabbed it to save myself haha typical, I won't forget that moon in a hurry. :) xx

I didn't see the super moon when it first rose up in the sky (when it seems at its largest), but it was pretty once it got up above the houses behind us. You got some great shots with the zoom! Love that you can see a crater ... I never get good shots of it with my sad little zoom.

It still amazes me that you can see the same moon, practically at the same time, in Wyoming. Good shots. Diane

Great photos!

You really are a "Moon-gazer" while I am a "Star-gazer"...
I always have to look at the stars when it´s not cloudy.
Even if it´s minus 25 C outside. The winter here today is
just slush though... I wish it was colder so the snow stayed.

I love the seasons when they are distinctive not when all
flows together to a grey mass...

Have a wonderful day!
