Outside Our Windows

There is an unreasonable joy to be had from the observation of small birds going about their bright, oblivious business.
(Grant Hutchison, The Complete Lachlan)

It all started yesterday.
On a gorgeous sunny day with this couple who caused quite a commotion right outside our back door.
Apparently it is mating season.  The process doesn't take long and within a week's time eggs will be laid.
Then this morning, after a drizzly rain all night, our bedroom balcony was abuzz with bird activity.

This little sparrow was munching happily away on my marigolds.
And this fella kept hovering by our back door over and over.  Not sure what he thought he was doing, but since we have tinted windows, I'm guessing he could see his reflection.
Needless to say, all this action kept Jingles entertained and made her more than a little crazy.
The last photos were taken with my big girl camera which seemed to have a hard time focusing on a cloudy day through a tinted window.
All that bird business has someone tuckered out now.

Happy Thursday!

Love the little birdies and of course dear Jingles.
We've lost a lot of the birds around here with people paving and putting gravel down in their gardens. We have feeders out but are yet to get a bird on them. I hoping that if the winter is harsh that they will find them.

It seems that your balcony is quite the popular local entertainment spot!! xx

Oh Jingles was loving every minute. It was like going to the movies . My two pups have been watching the chickadees and hummingbirds out my window and having the same effect. Nap time! Thanks so much for your sweet note. I am doing great and being very careful these days.

I bet your little bird saw his reflection, too. I've had birds to do that at my glass door. And sometimes I think they see the reflection of the sky and try to fly through it. That happened this morning. A Cardinal flew right into the glass door so hard that she left feathers on the glass and it knocked her so hard that she fell onto the walkway and couldn't move for about 15 min or do. Finally she was able to fly away.

I really enjoy seeing Jingles and some of your birds, Tammy :) One of our cats would get so involved in bird watching he would occasionally bop his head against the windowpane startling him and us! xx

Hi Tammy.. what a bird paradise you have out there! And Jingles must wish she was out there to try to catch one for dinner. My cat used to watch birds out the window and here eyes would vibrate! It was weird. I'm glad you had some rain! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

That is a lot of bird activity. I enjoyed seeing your cat watching all the activity so intently. I enjoyed your beautiful photos of Dubai. I would love to visit there sometime.

If I had a window with view like this I wouldn't mind sitting along with Jingles the entire day.

I believe cats are born with an inner sense of birds. How entertaining all that action must have been for both of you. Jingles earned a good nap. Birdie Blessings Dear...

You captured some really great shots, Tammy. Could it be the colors of your plants attracting them? I love doves, they mate for life and I think that's precious. Lobsters do, too. A strange comparison but I love it! Your kitty looks like this is a big part of his/her daily entertainment! lol!

How cute! I too am an animal lover at heart and my poor cat once lost her balance on the balcony while bird watching and fell. But thank goodness no harm done :-) Have a great weekend! Silvana

Bird paradise indeed! Are those little brown birds, sparrows? They have become really scarce here and we hardly get to see them. It is said that signals from mobile towers harm them. What a pity! Looks like Jingles had a very interesting day :)
After one experience with pigeon eggs I now do all I can to shoo away the pigeons from my potted plants :)
Have a great day. Love.

I bet Jingles needs a day of rest after all that bird commotion!

Great bird photos, Tammy, especially the ones with the birds in flight-of-sorts. Loved them. Poor Jingles would probably like one of those birdies for a little snack! ha! Take care. Susan

I just love watching the birds outside of our windows. Our 2 cats are sometimes interested, but not all that much. Lucy, our blue, prefers bird watching over Butters, our orange.
We haven't had actual sunlight or blue skies in 2 weeks now. I hate this periods of winter but it's pretty much how things go when you live in Illinois.

They must have all migrated to you! I can't tell where Jingles begins and ends in that last picture! LOL! SorryI haven't been by...I'll try and be a better friend!

Our 7 month old kitties are just showing interest in birds but they have not been out yet. I'm can see why Jingles is tired out with all that bird watching! Xxx

I love watching the birds too, and will leave a lot of my flower stalks up long after the flowers die to attract the little birds. This year I've seen a lot of goldfinches enjoying the seeds from the black-eyed Susans. So cute :) I'll bet Jingles was one frustrated cat seeing all that feathery goodness just out of his reach!

Dearest Tammy,
What a lovely sight that much bird action; sorry for Jingles as she's not allowed to partake in it...
Thank you so very much for your comments on the past posts.
It was a very rough week, stress and emotions. For four days I've been dealing with the Social Security office for getting all the forms our from our work in Italy and also applied for my American benefits. They had my name wrong of course... Quite an effort to have them correct all that! Government and who cares? One thing I do know, the woman that screwed everything up I would never hire her... But she got a job and who's checking on her?
After 7 full days I finally was able to call Dad in the hospital after one of my toxic brothers finally had the Radio, TV and Phone hooked up. Could you believe this?!
On Friday afternoon my youngest sister did bring Dad home, he did not need heart surgery after they checked out his veins.
So after all, I'm quite happy about the ending.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

I love watching the birds too and have all sorts of treats waiting for them out on my patio but unfortunately they mostly remain untouched because of the neighbourhood cats that scare the birds away. Your photo's are lovely have a great weekend. :) xx

I just love birds, and being able to watch them is such a treat. I have a feeder outside my front window and I can just sit there forever and watch them swooping in and out of the bushes. :) Kit

Poor Jingles - I hope they nest, hatch, and get the heck out of her sight...she could be exhausted for quite some time to come, if not! XOXO

I've never seen a bird eat marigolds! I guess the observant Jingles knows a lot more about birds than I do :)

How lovely that you can sit and admire the bird activity on your balcony! We have magpies and crows come daily for a feed of uncooked oats which are a bird-friendly option.
