Seeing With Your Heart

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.
Henry David Thoreau

For days we had the most beautiful blue skies.
Daily walks were taken to make the most of the gorgeous weather.
And, of course, as I walk, I'm aware.
Looking up, down, left, right, all around.
On my Instagram account, someone locally asked "where are the best spots to observe nature like this?
I told her I just walk along the paths or around the neighborhoods and am always looking for something interesting.
But another person commented that the best spot to find it is in your heart because it leads you to observe beauty.
I thought that was a lovely way of looking at it and so very true.
Beauty is all around if we just take the time to see it.

With the first step, the number of shapes the walk might take is infinite, but then the walk begins to define itself as it goes along, though freedom remains total with each step: any tempting side road can be turned into an impulse, or any wild patch of woods can be explored.  The pattern of the walk is to come true, is to be recognized, discovered.
A.R. Ammons, A Poem is a Walk
The mere thought of walking outdoors on a brilliant golden-blue day causes fireworks of delight to go off in most people’s psyche.  It gives one an instant feeling of happiness and that is meditation!  We are not
only in touch, at that moment, with the physical splendour of nature, but also with the beauty of merging our own spiritual nature with it.
Karen Zebroff
Walking with intention; seeing with the heart.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Wish we could share a walk together Tammy - on the other hand perhaps we'd be so busy chatting we'd miss all the pretty things Nature would share with us along the way!!! Love those 'poems' - so well said.

Glad you have great walking weather - we have pouring rain again today, this is the craziest December weather ever.
We do have to go out though and run some errands, then meet our daughter and her boyfriend for supper - we offered to take them to a new Mexican place we found recently - best Mexican food in town we think!

Luckily I do have new waterproof booties. I treated myself - an after Christmas present, and they arrived yesterday - I just might give them the wet break-in test today!

Happy New Year to you and the family my dear.
Have loved sharing with you this year.
Hugs - Mary

Your post is lovely today. The summery photos give me hope amidst all of the snow we have here. Today is the first day in 11 days that it hasn't snowed. I love the beauty in the words on this post. Happy New Year my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy

LOVE this quote: "Seeing With Your Heart: It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
Henry David Thoreau
I have a friend who is blind, and he'll often say "she's not very pretty". He can't see her outside physical appearance, but instead he perceives her beauty by her personality, heart and spirit. And that's what matters.

It is lovely to see some of the sights around you, Tammy, and thought provoking to consider the quotes you shared. I have had a wonderful Wednesday thus far. I got to drive to meet a friend to knit baby blankets. Our first day of sunshine in weeks reveled a glorious white Mt. Hood and foothills around it. My oldest daughter, baby Sarah and I attended a memorial service for a young friend's father who died last month. It was a good celebration of his life...and life in general. xx

thanks for this lovely inspiring post on the beauty of walking. I plan to do more walking in 2016. In the past much of my walking was "dog" walking. Since Cody is no longer with us, I will now concentrate on "me" walking. Thanks for the inspiration.
