November's End

Hard to believe that tomorrow will be the first day of  the very last month of 2015.
I stopped by The Secret Garden this morning to do some composting and always check on all our crochet and kids crafts that are out there.
Saturday a week ago we did twig trees with the children (and some moms) and the week before that it was bird feeders using papertowel and toilet paper rolls with peanut butter and birdseed.
Afterwards, I met my good friend, Melissa, for a nice hour long walk along the corniche.  Such lovely weather and the moon to guide us.  (Can you spot it there just under the palm fronds?)
I was just telling Melissa about a lovely young lady named Jo who helps take care of all the feral kitties in this area and lo and behold if we didn't run into her.
Sadly, she returns to the UK in 2 days after being here many years and I know everyone will miss her so much.  She has worked tirelessly to help trap/neuter/release hundreds of cats.  She has named many of them and they know her so well.  Kuwait truly is losing a kind, compassionate person.
After our walk, we stopped by an open House at Zeri Crafts.
Such a nice atmosphere and homemade goodies to sample along with a cup of hot ginger tea.
I especially loved seeing and hearing about the photography display entitled Artisan Hands that tells the stories of 6 people from Kuwait, all in their 70's now, who made a living years ago through their specialized handicrafts, a tradition of handmade that unfortunately is lost in this technological age.
I for one intend to keep handmade alive as long as I can.
It's Monday and the start of a new week for most of you out there.  Hope it's a good one!
Best wishes,

Looks like a lovely day. The garden space is really cheery and what a wonderful place that is. While I admire some handcrafts, I just don't like doing them myself - too tedious for my liking and have just never had a lasting interest in doing those, however we each have to have our own things. When it comes to technology, I just really keep thinking I'm going to give up Instagram and FB... it's just not healthy for me as I always find myself comparing myself to others there and feeling a lack of interest when I take the time to post things and others don't comment. I just don't know that many people. Anyway, it's something I struggle with, especially now in this very emotional holiday season.

Tammy I just love reading about your secret Garden. What a wonderful thing that is for the children of the city. I remember making toilet paper birdfeeders with my children! It's a timeless craft. And what beautiful pictures of the artisans using their hands to make their cherished treasures. Sadly I agree with you, that in this technological age, many of the arts are being lost. Thank you for sharing all of this with us this morning.
Blessings, Betsy

Your Secret Garden is so magnetic, I want to visit it. You asked about seeds and I do not do anything special for zinnia seeds. I plant them in the soil and in containers and they like both. One favorite is Purple Prince which is maybe 10 inches tall, and I plant lots of mixed colors. That might be a fun project for children at your Garden, planting seeds in containers. Sunflowers grow easily from seeds too. Have fun. Oh, and I think the feral cats will miss your friend who is returning to the UK.

Hey there. Glad you're still keeping up on your blog. I had a great time today and look forward to many more walks. I think your starting to develop some sort of 6th sense...lol!

I always enjoy seeing the places you visit around where you live. The walks are especially interesting, it's really beautiful there. I enjoyed seeing the projects you're doing with the kids too, they must have a lot of fun. Your friend who helps the feral cats sounds like a very kind person, I'm sure you'll all miss her. I hope you have a good week, Tammy.

Hi Tammy, I'd love to stop by and share a cup of chai with you and walk around the neighborhood. It looks so lovely there. I'm glad you got to share a lovely vegan thanksgiving meal. I loved seeing those crafting hand pictures, and I'm with you, we can keep crafting alive! Have a great week!
Hugs,
Sherry

I love your walks around Kuwait. And good for you....keeping the art of handcrafts alive. I'm trying to teach my granddaughter as many as I can. She can now knit a little, cross stitch and sew a little. She helps with cooking, too.

It looks like a pretty day to walk with friends. I hope someone picks up the work for the kitties so they won't feel abandoned all over again :(

What a shame that Jo is going back. It can't be easy for her to leave all the cats behind when she had been so passionately taking care of them. I'm very sorry for the kitties.
While crocheting is booming at the moment, a lot of other handicrafts seem to get lost. Most people don't like to take the time to learn and practice them. The same goes for a lot of other things. Everything has to be fast and effortless. I always cringe when I read about "no-bake cakes", "no-sew pillows" etc.
Hugs,
Julia

What a fun day - love the Artisan Hands display. I do hope someone takes on Jo's kitties...they will miss her, no doubt, as well as you. Beautiful crocheting, my talented friend...handwork always brings so much peace to me!
