Committing to Daily Movement

Because of constant dust storms and work obligations over the past several weeks, there has not been a whole lot of walking happening around here.  Now that the dust has cleared, the heat as set in.  It's currently a balmy 99 degrees, hazy with humidity.  Yesterday it got up to 108 degrees.
While blog reading this morning, I was inspired by Tanna's April 24th post to get moving. Even with just a few weeks without walking, I've noticed that my pants are all fitting tighter which doesn't make me feel very good at all.  The Canadians wrote about "armchair suicide" in 1968.  Now, 47 years later, news reports are that sitting is the new smoking.  A sedentary lifestyle isn't good for anyone.
So I put on my walking shoes and hit the pavement for an hour and a half, wandering up and down the neighborhood streets as I love to do.

Jingles, on the other hand, is committed to this.
 Have a super Saturday!

Hi Tammy
It has been a long time since I have visited your blog, sorry for my absence.
Talking about walking, a few months ago I bought a Fitbit that counts my steps and thus encourages me to walk more....and it works!
Love your photos and it was great catching up on some of your recent posts.
Keep shining dear friend.

I just got back from a walk, although it was not a long one. I am exhausted from my week and I think I need to be gentle with myself, walking, breathing the outside air and just being easy.
Hugs to you,
Meredith

There is nothing as refreshing as a good walk. Too bad I cannot do it every day and quite admire your dedication to walking.

I have a goal of walking for half an hour 3 days a week and going to the health club to exercise 3 days a week and I usually meet it. Good for you for walking and taking these great photos to share.

I walked my feet off in New Orleans.. after resting up I'll be hitting the pool to swim 3 days a week. It was fun for me to hear of all your time in Louisiana and how our feet crossed over the same ground. I hope you have a wonderful time when you return for a visit soon. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

That is so hot. I don't think I would even venture out. You get a gold star for walking in it. Jingles has the right idea.

An hour and a half? Oh Tammy. You are amazing. I definitely need to move more. Definitely. And you are doing it in extreme heat! Good for you. Susan

I love the way you look at your neighbourhoo! Oh and Jingles take on the world when the temps are too high for mustering up any energy.
Fortunately we're on the downhill slide so walking is very pleasant here at the moment.
Enjoy your strolls.

Good for you, Tammy! I am cheering you and myself on with our commitment to move. I got to swim for an hour each day for two days last week but need to incorporate more walking into my daily routine. The arthritis in my knees makes me realize this every time I am still for two long and they feel stiff when next I move! Thanks for posting. :)

Good for you on the walking even despite that heat which we never quite have here, though to us - 80s is hot right now. All what one gets accustomed to.

Despite the fact that I do sit at work out of necessity of my job, I have now officially lost 54 lbs at age 50 - this is only since December 31st so quite a great achievement. It's not due to working out though - though I do still walk/run 3 miles a day at least - it's due to my dietary change and drastically limiting caloric intake. I feel great! Already down 2 pant sizes and ongoing. I want to be at the weight I was in my 20s and I'm going to hit that at some point in the next months.

A commitment to move is a good thing. I know that I feel better and sleep better when I walk and exercise.
It's always great to see the sights along your walk.
Have a happy day.

I can't imagine walking outdoors in that kind of heat and humidity! As I don't know much about the country you live in, is there a gym nearby where you could exercise? Or, a nearby shopping mall where you could walk around? I hate sitting too much, too. That's one reason (and there were many, lol) why I hated working in an office. Couldn't stand sitting all day! I walked on my breaks and at lunch. And anytime I had to use the washroom, I'd use the one upstairs so that it was a longer walk and I got the benefit of going up and down stairs.

A nice walk outside is always good for your physical and mental health. Lovely photos of your walk:)

Good for you! I'm craving sunshine, but perhaps not 108°. Love seeing the pics of your walking adventures, regardless of the weather. You are always so good about getting out whenever possible. Honestly, you inspire me.

The research on sitting is pretty significant. Work recently installed a sit-to-stand desk in my office, and it has made a remarkable difference. The up and down movement throughout the day is a great benefit. But nothing beats getting outside. =)

You know it makes me feel better just knowing that you are out moving, too. I had not heard the term armchair suicide... and from 1968... apparently the Canadians were ahead of their time! Thank you for your encouragement and inspiration, Tammy!! I love having a partner in The Movement. hehee. blessings and hugs ~ tanna

Dearest Tammy,
Would love to find more time to walk! We had some crazy weeks and still busy. Pieter's Birthday, King's Birthday reception next day with the Dutch Consul in Atlanta with one day in the hotel. Next day home via Costco and the rounds of shopping to stock up. And again back to the airport on Saturday to pick up a dear friend who's staying with us. Three days in a row to and from Atlanta... I was so tired on Sunday!
Sending you hugs and blessings.
Mariette

You are an inspiration to me. Just today I started with good intentions - 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes in the afternoon. I did the morning walk, and then we had thunderstorms in the afternoon. Tomorrow is a new day. I will think of you when I lace up my tennies :)

First I love those shoes!!! I love going on your walks and all the great photos you take. Everything is so colorful. I am in rehab for my spine. It got out of whack after my surgery and having to lay around for so long. But am doing great and ready to get back to walking soon.
Take care, Sharon
