A Stashbusting Failure

All you crocheters and knitters out there.
Has this have ever happened to you?
This yarn has been in my stash for many years. It's Alize Batik Design LanaGold, 50% virgin wool/50% acrylic.

Five failed attempts at making a cowl.  The yarn kept fraying and breaking.  Very disappointing.

Not disappointing this past weekend was the weather.
For all you folks with snow or cold weather, this is for you.

 Warm wishes and blessings,

Hi Tammy...I have not been ignoring you but the last several times I've visited I have not been able to comment..."server time out". i have been having modem problems so not sure if it's my end or yours but hopefully you'll get this today else I will have to email you my comments! LOL!
I have not had that happen with yarn. That's too bad too because it looked so pretty. Where's quality control when you need them?
Wow....over the top gorgeous pictures too! You are right....beautiful weather there!
Enjoy!

I had a lace weight acrylic that did that. I bought it at a close out sale and I think it was very old. It felt dry rotted in the middle.

Sorry it happened to you. That's not fun.

I love your flower shots and the gorgeous palm tree.. can you believe that we're having similar weather here? I just put up a bunch of photos of our flowers, I hope you pop over and see. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

It has never happened to me luckily, but I have had a ton of cases to buy yarn only to find out (usually in the middle of working with that yarn) that the skein is discontinued - that is to say it ended and they tied its continuation(at the factory ) to finish the skein. But the thing that pisses me off is that I have bought all those faulty skeins at a regular price and not with a discount as should be the case.

Yep that has happened to me too, very disappointing isn't it, an d as it is in your stash for years you cant really take it back and complain!!!!
Our weather has been wet but very hot, glad of the rain though as we are in a drought.

Thank you for the glimpse of sunshine! Our snow is finally starting to melt and the buds on my cherry tree seem larger (although it might just be wishful thinking). :-) Happy trails, Heather

That all looks lovely, except for the yarn bust. ;)

Our weather is great now!! Almost all of the snow is now gone here in Central Illinois and we're warming up every day now - 50s and upper 60s this week which to us, that's HOT. It's wonderful. Looks like a new spring weather pattern from here on out and in just 9 work days, I'll be on the beach! It's such a short work month for me.

Enjoy your week,
Linda

I had yarn given to me as a gif that I felt obligated to use because I saw the giver frequently. It was a horrible yarn to work with. I finally made a scarf with it but up it was a miserable experience. My sympathies. Thank you for the gorgeous pictures, I'm heading to warmth at home tomorrow in Spokane and leaving my precious Piper and the cold behind. My heart is breaking.
Blessings always,
Betsy

Hey Tammy! Wow your photos today are so beautiful. I love the little bee and the sunflower and the palm tree. I left you a message on my blog with the name of the book you were asking about. Just in case you didn't see it, the book is Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr. Bought mine at Amazon. Loved this book. It caused me to become a vegetarian. I wish I could become vegan, but I love eggs way too much. Thank you also for visiting Whitney's blog. That meant a lot to me. Talk soon! ~Laurie

Great pictures. Sorry about that stubborn yard. The palm tree and the flower and bee, and I love the sunflower.

What a nice and colorful post.

Very pretty photos! I am still enjoying the bright white outside my windows but it is going to warm up this week so most of the snow will vanish. Sorry about the yarn giving you problems.

Too bad about the yarn breaking.

The flowers are gorgeous and what a fat, happy bee!

Dearest Tammy,
Yes, that kind of yarn I've dealt with too... so many hours lost and in the end you just have to abandon it all together!
But your lovely photos make up for that disappointment more than.
We too had a lovely day for a long walk, that's why I'm late now... but I would not have wanted to miss my walk!
Our Japanese magnolias bloom and we had 70s and we will see 80s this week. So spring is finally here!
Hugs and blessings to you,
Mariette

Oh, what a shame :-( I'm sorry; I hate when that happens. Thanks for the beautiful pictures; I can almost feel the warmth of the sun! All of our snow has melted and it's starting to warm up, but it's been raining for two days. Take care :-)

Yes that happened to me while making a shawl for a friend fighting cancer. I picked the most gorgeous, cream silk yarn that was hand spun. I broke so much I swear my good vibes were actually angry vibes while making it. She has recovered so my bad mojo must not have been all that bad. We have some lovely weather here too.

Yes it has happened to me and it's so annoying. I tell you what else I find annoying yarn that has knots in it and also those yarns that are not consistent they start off maybe as a dk and then the strand gets thinner or thicker it ruins the texture of your work, you got me started now haha. Beautiful pictures the weather looks lovely, we are blowing a gale it's raining and very cold. :) xx

So annoying about that yarn!! I hope that you can perhaps manage to salvage something in some way. The other pictures in the beautiful sun with the blue skies are fabulous though!!! xx

Cheryl said...

Goodness... I can practically feel the warmth from those photos. The blue sky looks so blue it looks fake lol Lucky you :-)
Big hugs,
Cheryl

Oh my, Tammy. The lovely weather shots were definitely appreciated.

Sorry about the stashbusting failure.

Thanks for all your visits. Always nice to see that you have stopped by. Susan

Oh wonderful-love those pretty bright flowers-especially since it has been so dreary with lack of sun for so long here.
I did have a ball of weaving yarn that did that to me too once-I guess it was just too old

TLC said...

It's a shame when that happens to the wool. I had similar issues with a fedora I was attempting to create.

Love the flowers though!

Looks like you live somewhere tropical. So lucky! But I think Spring is making it's arrival here in the States. It's too bad about your yarn. My projects don't always go as planned either.

Such warm sunny photos -- you are probably making some of the folks still in winterland jealous.

Becca said...

How frustrating! Well...while I was trying to use my stash of crochet thread up, I learned not to start a project from a "ball" of thread crochet you bought for 50cents at the thrift store...It was like small pieces all rolled up into the ball! Oh well. Lovely weather you are having! Enjoy!
