Evening Events

In the past several weeks since my last blog post, I have been fortunate to have participated in many new events and activities.  First was NourishQout -- a week long session of free workshops put together by the founders of Qout Market (the artisanal farmers market which takes place November through April).
The first workshop I attended was put on by my friend, Patty, who makes and sells infused products from her home.
Patty's advice is not to buy any prepackaged spices, but to buy fresh and grind everything yourself.
The entire evening was very hands on and informative and we walked away with lots of delicious items that were made or gifted.  Nothing is wasted at Patty's place ... she even dries orange peels and grinds them into a powder that can be used for sprinkling in tea or on yogurt or used in baking.  The smell is absolutely divine.
The second workshop was put on by my very favorite paleo/vegan chef who I met through Qout Market last year.
That's Fadhel in the cap.  His home business is called Caveboy Grubs and everything he makes is absolutely divine.  This workshop was also very hands on and intense.  4 tables of participants making all the food that we would then share, all within 2 hours.
We made tabbouleh, seaweed rolls, vegan flatbread with baked falafel, zoodles with vegan sauce and meat sauce, and vegetarian lasagna.  So, so, good!
As you can see, the vegetarian lasagna got a lot of attention.

At the end of October I attended the show STOMP with a friend which was absolutely incredible.  It is a must see if it ever comes to a town near you.
Afterwards we went to a newish restaurant that has a nice cozy atmosphere and delicious salads.
And one of the last evening events was organized by the Aware Center and was a tour of the home of a Kuwaiti man who has turned his basement into a museum.  We weren't allowed to take photos of his collection but did get a group photo.
So much happening this time of year and I am trying to get out and about more now that the weather has gotten cooler.
Thankful now that it is the weekend once again and hoping to catch up with all of you.
Happy Thursday!

these sound like great events! I have nver been to a cooking class and would just love to. Making the spices sounds very interesting. I visited a spice store yesterday where they made their own fresh blends that suit different sorts of food. I was really impressed and bought a few.

Keep us posted on your adventures!!

I've enjoyed seeing photos of much of this on your instagram and it's nice to read the dialogue that accompanies it. : ) You have had some fun busy evenings.

At our house, Jim and Sarah always joke that I don't leave the house once evening comes and that is so true. I just don't like being involved in much outside of the home unless it involves them. Now that it's dark here by 4:30 pm, I'm just anxious to get home and be a hermit, lol.

Still, it's our busiest time of the year here - November and December, so many celebrations. : )

Hope you have a nice weekend, mine begins at 2:00 pm tomorrow and it's my Dad's 89th Birthday on Saturday.

Dearest Tammy,
Wow, you had a lot of things going on and all things that I too would have loved to attend! Healthy and yummy food and also interesting other things.
Well, you sure can make a trip to northern Arizona with your college boy nearby... We both LOVED our Arizona vacation as it proved to be above expectation! I have 4 more posts lined up, one airs in a couple of minutes. That total gives you a pretty good idea what can be done. We both want to go back to Sedona again, that was spectacular and we wish we could have spend some time there!
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

Hello Tammy,
You've attended some fun events in the past while. How great to get some new inspiration for cooking and eating through the food events. Love the idea of drying orange peels and grinding them - I do dry mine, but then I just simmer them to make the house smell yummy.

So glad to see a new post from you in my reader, Tammy :)
The food workshops sound fantastic. I think hands-on is often the best way to learn, and definitely when it comes to cooking.
And now I'm trying to figure out how to pronounce Qout.

What great events you have been attending! There is nothing going on here like that. The museum sounded fascinating too.
I visit and "attend" events around the internet and I am so grateful for the internet and my books and my yarn and being able to order those over the web. LOL!
I been wanting to make some flat bread. My son-in-law made some and they eat a lot of Indian food. I've been baking bread lately but going outside my usual recipe of artisan bread. I want to try making crackers now too. I love the different foods you showed. They all looked delicious.
