Trying new things

Over the years I have collected so many recipes -- torn from magazines or printed from websites. I figure it's about time to start weeding through them all.

These days sweet potatoes are top of my list of yummy foods, so this curry recipe was perfect as it called for sweet and regular potatoes plus lentils.

I thought it was good served over brown rice with a piece of chapati. My family was not equally impressed.

Yusef almost bit into one of these he found in the fridge, thinking it was some new cookie covered in powdered sugar.

They were actually chickpea patties. I made a cucumber and yogurt sauce and sour cream with onion chutney to serve them with.

Would I make these recipes again? Probably not. They were good, but not great. So, that's two recipes tried and tested. A couple hundred more to go.

Sending warms thoughts and wishes your way! Friendship blessings, Tammy

Thank you for visiting my Wisconsin blog all the way from Kuwait. I've spent the last few minutes looking at your photos...now I am hungry! I love to see another part of the world...I feel less snowed in now! Take care!

Cheeze, Tammy. Everything looks great to me! Don't think I've ever had chick pea patties but I love hummus! Take care, have a nice day, and be happy you won't have to shovel to get to your car in the morning! ha ha Susan

Sounds like a good plan to me. Cooking is like gardening, isn't it, we just keep tweaking. Diane

That's one of the best things about family, they will try the recipes and give you their true feelings about the "unique" tastes. My family is sometimes brutely honest about new recipes and then we just throw those aweful ones out. My daughter, Wendy, puts a star on the recipes that we REALLY like so that we can remember when we've tried it.

Why do the pics on recipes sometimes look so much better than they taste.
Have fun cooking.

I am so impressed that your family tries it.. Mine would turn up their noses before even trying. How I got picky eaters, since I am not, is beyond me...

Have a great day!

I love that you are getting so organized that you are have moved onto recipes. They look great to me. If you get any good ones, you will have to let me know!
Good to know you have enough time on your hands to do some extra cooking!!

My husband would love if I tried new recipes! Hmmm...does that mean he doesn't like my old ones?

Have a great day Tammy!

...but they look yummy! At least you gave it a try. That's the only way for one to find out what's worth it and what isn't, right?
have a lovely day!

It's great to try new things, even if they don't turn out as great as you planned. ;)

Happy Friday.

Recipes are fun to try, but it is rather dissapointing when they don't turn out as you hoped.

Oh but they sound soo good! I too am on a sweet potato kick..and all the other things sounded equally as good! I remember once when my son "dammitAndy" was about 6 - I had gotten some onion/garlic bagels and they were on the kitchen table one Saturday morning ..when I got up..he said "do NOT buy those donuts again! They were awful!!" hahahaha!

Oh dear, I'm just imagining Yusef's face after biting into a chick pea patty and thinking it was going to be a sweet. Is a chick pea patty the same as a falafal? I think they look delicious.

I'm totally impressed that your family will try a new recipe...it must be a testament to your fabulous cooking or they wouldn't be so trusting!!! I wish I could get my Abbey to try anything new, but no such luck!

It's nice to see some warm sunshine where you live Tammy. We have nothing but ice and snow here and although I LOVE winter, it's becoming a bit too much. We're expecting more snow tonight, this weekend and then another "big event" next week. I guess I'll miss this when the 90's roll around in mid summer!!!

Have a great evening, and thanks for visiting my blog and sending your well-wishes to my kitty. You are obviously a kitty-lover yourself with all the beautiful pics of the kitties in your home!!! ;-)

It's so good to see that you actually try recipes that you collect. I collect them too but maybe try 2 out of 10. I work such crazy hours that I do not get the time to cook like I would like to. Jack has taken up most of the cooking in the past few months. Lucky me. He makes a pretty good house husband. lol

This is so funny. Similiar situations in my house where I do not impress hubby with my vegan recipes or "sneaky chef" tries.
Great pic with the baby elephant. Lisa

I'm going to enjoy watching your recipe tests. Perhaps these are ones you can vary to taste better next time? They certainly look nice in the pics ~
