I'm Changing My Name

To Tammy Dolittle! Yesterday morning when the boys and I were leaving for school, we saw a chicken outside our entryway that looked like she might be on her last leg. But by the time we got home, she had perched herself up on the ledge next to the gate that leads to our stairwell.

Not really knowing what to do, I just put a container of water and a small dish of cooked brown rice and thought that would be the end of it. However, she was still there this morning and the brown rice had been eaten.

My husband asked a guy to take her to one of the houses around here where other chickens can be found. But when he was out this evening, he was shocked to see her coming up the street, around the corner, and back to our place to roost again. All I could do was laugh. Why is she here? Where did she come from? How did she find her way back? Does she need something from me? Is God trying to tell me something?

This is Sweet Kitty.

And this is Pumpkin.

They are my outside cats. And now there's a chicken!

Just call me the Animal Whisperer! Friendship Blessings, Tammy

A chicken knows where to find safety and good. Did you know that your grandmother Arlene had a pet rooster when she was young.. I may have a picture of it with her. So for tonight. Goodnight Mrs Doolittle

Yes, animals sense those of us with loving hearts. I once had a raggedy, street weary, cat come right up me, as I was walking out my front door. She was in terrible shape. I thought it funny, she was wearing a collar with tags. I called the phone number listed on her tag, and discovered she was lost for the last 6 months. Apparently she was roaming the streets all that time, and no one took the time to read her tags. She was 30 miles away from her home, when she decided to come directly up to me. I was so happy to be able to reunite her with her ever grateful family. So these animals know whom to approach, when they are desparate. : )

What a great story....I sure do hope the chicken stays safe and well. She obviously knows how to pick someone with a caring heart.

Actually, three weeks ago, a little stray dog rocked up outside our house. We walked the streets looking for an owner...none to be found. I took him to the vet to see if he was micro-chipped....nope. Two days after he arrived, I discovered a paralysis tick on him so we removed it and, thankfully, it was in the nick of time because he is still with us. If he hadn't found us, he would most likely have ended up dead in the bushland from the tick poison. He was grossly underweight when he came here and was very fearful as if he'd had a rough time of it. He is now getting quite spoiled and gets on well with our own little dog too. Me thinks we may have gained a new pet. :)

I just love your stories!!! Omar would be the first one to tell you that animals have a sixth sense about people with good spirits and are drawn to them. Knowing this, it does not surprise me at all to know you have a following of animals that are drawn to you. I LOVE knowing that you are making their life better with your kind spirit, generosity and desire to help all living things. The cats and the chicken were lucky to find you. I am sure they will live a much better life being near someone like you!! Pumpkin and Sweet Kitty actually both look really good. Better then past pictures. Good for you!!!

Love,
Renee

Hi Tammy,

What a sweet story, the chicken coming to live with you.
They are lovely to have and you get attached to them, remembering having them in a chook house when I was growing up.
Your kitties are cute.

Hugs
Carolyn

Chicken probally knew you wouldn't eat it...LOL! Gave me a good laugh with this story. Good to know if she is on her last legs that she is spending it with you and not on someone's plate. Your kitty's are adorable and look happy and content. You are a good mommy.

I'm the same way...can't ever pass up an animal in need. I think you have a good heart and God put that chicken where she needed to be right then.

What a situation! Any news from the chicken? I read that it was gone. I hope nothing bad happened!! Kind of intriguing its presence at your door, huh?
