Today is Kuwait's National Day.
We usually try to travel during this time but weren't able to this year because my husband is moving to a new office and needs to vacate his current premises before the end of the month.
I walked this morning. Fed kitties at the park and picked up garbage at the walking path closest to where we live.
Had a very nice conversation with a young guy who is around the same age as my boys (mid-20's) -- we met a couple of years ago when he thanked me for picking up garbage and now we chat whenever we are out there at the same time.
Unfortunately, this past week, there's been a lot of littering of the land with balloons and syringes because the kids seem to think that water balloon fights are a way to celebrate their country. They also use water guns to spray passing cars and people.
I really hate it.
And when my husband suggested we take an afternoon walk, I knew it was a bad idea but went anyways.
Some jerk (much stronger words were used when it happened) lobbed a full bottle of water at me from a big black truck hitting me from behind in the left shoulder. My husband had already crossed the street and had no clue what was going on. Obviously, it was quite a shock -- good thing it didn't hit my head.
We did a circle around walking path number two in our neighborhood and then I went back to find the bottle of water that had been thrown at me. Watered a couple of small bushes with it and then as we hightailed it home, I threw the empty bottle in the trash.
Last year on this day, we were in Colombo, Sri Lanka and I had such a lovely day out with my friend and her daughter.
So, yeh -- that's the reason why we usually try to get away. It's chaotic and crazy and the hooligans are in rare form during these so-called celebrations (tomorrow is also their Liberation Day, so you can bet I'll be hiding out at home).
Take care.

Goodness, I think I would want to get away too. Yikes, that full water bottle could have caused some real damage and hurt!.
Seems like most celebrations can turn into more than celebrating. Especially National or large ones.
Your walks always look so interesting. I did enjoy all the pictures.
Oh no that's terrible. I'm glad that you weren't hurt after the bottle thrown at you. I hope you have a better week. Take care, Cathy x
I am so sorry you were assaulted. Very glad you are ok. I did like how you went back and got the water and used it wisely to help out thirsty plants. The light of love always shines brighter than the darkness, and you always spread light and love where ever you go. Blessings to you always. :)
I don't understand people who think it's okay just to throw litter down and leave it for someone else to pick it up. And the water bottle! That is NOT okay. What in the world was he thinking? I'm appalled. You could have been really injured by that bottle.
I'm with you. Stay inside tomorrow and stay safe.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
Ugh, I'm sorry the day turns out to be so disrespectful. Too bad you couldn't escape to Sri Lanka this year!
I don't blame you for staying home! I don't like crowd-nonsense either. Manners are getting to be a very rare occurrence!
Oh my gosh. That is just awful! Thank goodness you weren't badly hurt. What a horrible act. That person is seriously disturbed.
Thank you for trying to make the world a better place by picking up the litter. It really is an unselfish act of kindness.
What a rude and awful incident! Happy to hear that you bore it well. Karma always comes around, so that guy better watch out.
Tammy - it's so sad to feel that you aren't even "safe" to walk in the area around your home. And the disrespect for the earth to leave all that trash littering the place. Sigh. I can see why you like to get away.
How awful. There seems to be little respect in people these days. I'm amazed at the rudeness I encounter each time I go out. That's why I stay home so much. Please start wearing disposable gloves when you pick up the trash. I worry about you. You are doing a good thing but you need to protect yourself. Hugs, Sharon.
