Sightseeing Sunday: The Old City

For those of you who have been following me for awhile, you might recall that my husband is from Jerusalem and has lots of extended family who live there.
We try to visit at least once a year and one of our first stops is always to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, believed to be where the crucifixion of Jesus occurred and where his grave is located.
We have friends who always send money with us so that we can make a donation to the church and light candles in memory of their loved ones.
Even though I've been to Jerusalem many times over the years, there's still places I've not visited, such as The Garden Tomb.
This tomb was discovered in 1867 and some believe that it might possibly be where Jesus was actually buried and resurrected.  The garden is maintained by a Christian non-denominational charitable trust based in the UK and is a popular place for Protestant devotion and reflection.
When we are with family, we do a lot of sitting and eating and drinking of tea and coffee.
So to counteract all that, it is necessary to walk as much as we can, and what better place than the old souk which is a visual feast for the eyes.
We visited two other places that I'd not been to before but will save those for another time.

Sunday blessings,

I always enjoy hearing and seeing images of your trip to visit your husband's family. The souk looks like a bead lover's dream. I look forward to your next installment of the trip. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Dearest Tammy,
What a wonderful visit that has been again!
Love the Middle Eastern architecture and lamps and such in their Churches.
So much warmer and colorful.
Ah, the food... that is heaven, I love it and wish I could have been with you.
That souk was indeed a feast for the eye! How colorful.
Your extraordinary eye for beauty and detail makes for passing on the joy to many!
Thank you and hugs for a happy week ahead.

So glad to see you back! I'm so off and on I never know if it's me missing in action or someone else!

As always, I love your photos of your country. I get involved in the experience of a world so far from me. Your writing introduces us to another culture from a wonderful perspective.

Again--happy to see your posts and thanks for stopping by.

A lovely post, Tammy, and appropriate for this week when Christians remember the death and resurrection of Christ. Thank you for sharing these photos. The souk looks like an amazing place to visit, vibrant and full of colour.

Tammy - how precious to have the opportunity to visit these places of such historic and religious importance, not to mention the time with family. Sounds like you are well-looked after when you go! The spice displays at the souk are always fascinating to me. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

Tammy, Thank you so much for sharing these photos with us. I would love to visit the tomb and the garden where Jesus was laid and resurrected. What an amazind blessings that would be but I'm fairly sure I'll never have that opportunity so for you to share with us is absolutely wonderful. Thank you again.
The colors in the souk are stunning. What a beautiful place to live and to visit.

Thank you Tammy for sharing your journeys. Jerusalem and so many places in the middle east are so steeped in history, I can't imagine how it would feel to go there. So old and yet still with us in this modern age. I would love to visit these awesome places in person one day but it is unlikely to happen for me. Thank you for giving me a glimpse of your world. Fascinating. xx
