Stroll With Me

Cloud-filled skies on yesterday's walk.
(Today was rather hazy and gray.)
If I walk to our neighborhood walking path and go around it 5 times, I get in my 10,0000 steps for the day.
But sometimes I lose count of what round I'm on.
Probably because I'm distracted by the bees,
and the moths;
(sometimes both at the same time);
and the butterflies.

[Walking] is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside.
Elizabeth von Arnim, The Adventures of Elizabeth in Rügen
Found sunflowers unexpectedly growing along the side of the road in a place they've never grown before.
Look at a tree, a flower, a plant. Let your awareness rest upon it. How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being. Allow nature to teach you stillness.

The quotes and your photos are beautiful. Your photo of the clouds above a building is dramatic.

Hi Tammy.. I recognize how joyful you get when your hot summer is over and you can get out there and enjoy your walks. You're so lucky to have flowers when all of our countryside is brown and cold. Thank you for sharing your walk with us!!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What a lovely walk! Since it is currently snowing I am staying inside. I love seeing all your "wildlife" and flowers. Break is over, back to house chores for me. :) Kit

Lovely photographs!
When I had to count my paces (5 feet per pace) to measure a half-mile between forest inventory plots, losing track was a BIG issue! It's so easy to get in the rhythm of counting but lose track of the actual numbers.

You are amazing to do those 10,000 steps, Tammy. Good for you! Susan

Lovely photos! I should start walking again, after moving to the new house I haven't walked much and it's showing in my weight.

Dearest Tammy,
Haha, we do lose track and we've done so when biking. One, nice flat area we like to make three circles for reaching e.g. a total of 15 km but at times I laugh and ask Pieter, how many times we did...
Indeed, the wonders of nature unfolding right before our eyes keeps us captivated, which is a good thing. The BEST vitamins for our soul.
Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Mariette

Tammy - your quotes really resonated with me - "a thousand delicate joys" - spot on! And "allow nature to teach you stillness" - I like walking in winter-time - the white snow and barren branches have a way of revealing animals and plants that you would never see in the summer!
