Meet My New Friend

So, on Tuesday of this week, I was walking around my neighborhood,
Rumaithiya Garden

minding my own business,
snapping pictures along the way,
feeding kitties (I always carry food with me),
enjoying time outdoors
and then this happened.
I spotted a little tortoise wandering around on his own.
Of course, I had to stop to investigate.  A guy came from the direction of the houses that were set back from the road and I asked if he thought the turtle belonged to anyone there, but he said no.

The funny thing is that I had just been to my local yarn store so was carrying bags of yarn, plus a container of cat food and now I'm walking home with a tortoise in tow.

I'm sure I looked like a crazy woman.
Jingles is curious but I'm happy to see that she is not threatened by another species.
He's not so sure about her, though.
Years ago when our boys were little, we came back from summer vacation to find that their father had purchased two turtles and I knew absolutely nothing about caring for them.  It was also hot at that time and let's just say things did not go so well when I set up house for them on our balcony.
The weather is still good right now, so this little guy is staying out there for now.
He's very good at hiding and likes to find a corner when he is ready to snooze.
So far he loves parsley and kale and cucumber and carrots.
I've named him Tofu.

Happy Friday!

How funny (and cute and thoughtful!). Always looking out for God's creatures. ♥
I try to do the same with the cats at least, but things are going well right now with all 4 in the house. The 2 strays that became our cats last summer, hate our old cats, and vice versa, and there have been huge fights that we constantly have to break up and the old ones are really traumatized by the young ones. Butters has a big scratch on his nose, compliments of Mona (the Mom cat) and Baby (well, the baby), constantly lunges at both Lucy and Butters making them very nervous. I have no idea what to do because Mona and Baby now consider this their home and I love them. So...... have to figure out something.

Oh, so cute! They had two Tortoises at the
gym in our house before. In an aquarium
and everytime I talked to them they stood against
the glass looking at me. Trying to connect. I used
to talk to them when I was alone their in the mornings.

You are so kind giving the turtle a new home. Just be
careful you don´t get salmonella.

And Jingles is so sweet investigating
the new member of the house. She looks so calm and nice.
An old lady of the house. :D

Today we are having a sunny day here too, but unfortunately
I see all the dust very clear because of that, so I started
a Spring clean. :)

(But I will not tell a lie and say it´s fun!)

Wishing you a very good friday weekend my friend!

Tofu is a cute name for a turtle, Tammy! Congratulations on your new family member! I haven't seen a turtle yet this year but they will soon come out of their wintering grounds. We have 4 new legs as well over here after hubby found a dog puppy in the trash.
Have a lovely weekend!

Ha, Tofu Turtle seems to be a nice guy. I'm sure my cats would have exactly the same curious eyes (and nose ;-)) as Jingles if I would bring such a strange species to our home ;-)) When I was a child, I had a turtle, too, but it was a little runaway... Wishing you and Jingles and Tofu a nice and long lasting friendship!
Hugs and happy weekend

I like your new friend. I see nothing unusual about yarn, cat food, and a turtle all being carried by a lovely lady. Everyday really is an adventure!

HI Tofu--how special of you to give him a home--
Last Sunday when my DD and I were out driving we seen a rather large turtle crossing a busy 2 lane highway--he wanted on the beach side--so we stopped and pulled over and she actually got out of the car and when both lanes of traffic stopped==she picked him/her up and helped him get to the shoulder of the road--wrote about it on my post a couple days ago--
thanks for sharing=
enjoy, di

Tofu the Turtle - too cute! I'm afraid of turtles, so I wouldn't be picking one up and bringing it home! One time my hubby pulled over to the side of the road and ran out in the middle of the road and picked up a HUGE turtle that was crossing and brought it safely to the other side. It peed on him, lol. What are you going to do with the turtle in the long run, especially when the weather starts getting hot?

I love how you carry cat food when you're out and about.. you're just wonderful. And how fabulous to find a new friend and take him/her home! He must feel like he hit the lottery with you feeding him such tasty treats. Have you let him have a swim? I look forward to hearing how things go with him. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Congratulations on making a new friend ... I am sure Tofu will be much safer and well fed with you than on the streets ... I had to giggle with the image of you with packages and a tortoise on board! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Dearest Tammy,
From your first photo we could not yet tell how small your new pet friend Tofu is.
Jingles will let him/her be it looks like and I hope it will thrive on the greens provided.
They are cute, we have found here very cute tiny ones and also came across the snapping turtle.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

How interesting that he was just out there on his own and doesn't seem to have come from a home near by. He's very lucky to have your friendship! His meals look so fresh, tasty, and pretty. And, it looks like Jingles likes him too. It would be interesting to see how you carried everything home. Sounds like you really had your arms full. :-)

How is Tofu going these days? Somehow I missed that post. Have you made enquiries with local vets? They might know who owned the tortoise. So beautiful. You are very kind. Lucky for that tortoise that you found it. What will be its fate as the summer weather rolls in?
